  • I am a kung fu practitioner. Since starting it, I have lost right around 50 pounds (coupled with running and other cross training). I would love to answer any questions that you have about getting started in kung fu. I train in 4 disciplines. The three classic internal styles (Tai Chi, XingYi, and Bagua) and specialize in…
  • I am nearing my black belt with my academy. We train in Tai chi chuan, Baguazhang, Xingyiquan, and Shaolin. My primary focus though is Seven Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu (Qi Xing Tang Lang Quan). I am also a beginner capoeirista. I do plan on taking Brazilian Ju Jitsu sometime in the future! I hold a black belt in JuJitsu…
  • We recently bought a kinect due to how much we enjoy wii's just dance 2 (great game). We purchased Dance Central for the kinect. Its a great rainy/too friggin hot day exercise. A few words of caution about the kinect. 1. It's gimmicky- The kinect has been used mostly by third party developers to crank out poorly designed…
  • Definately a garmin forerunner 405... its so liberating to be freed from set running routes. Good fitting sunglasses are another must. I highly recommend Oakely M-Frames with vented lenses. I also enjoy running with a hydration belt with a single water bottle for my 4-6 mile daily runs. And... GOOD RUNNING SOCKS! I used to…
  • If you are a runner, i'd recommend ellipticals. They are safer, work out a wider muscle range, and much much easier on your knees. Its also easier to read while using one :D
  • ice those bad boys and invest in either a compression sleeve or athletic tape and look up isometric taping :D worked wonders for me
  • A note on stretching. NEVER stretch cold. Always warm up for a while before stretching. This is counter to what i was taught in gym class, which was stretch before exercise. You can tear or hyperextend a muscle if you are stretching before you are warmed up. for example, on a four mile run, i'll run a quarter mile and then…
  • I had a friend try them and he ended up gaining weight...the stupid things were so uncomfortable that he just sat on the couch.
  • I did TKD and JJ back in high school. Took Krav Maga and Sansoo in College. Now i do Northern Praying Mantis and Xingyi Kung Fu.
  • I use a Garmin Forerunner 305. You can still get them on amazon for 115 or so. They come with a chest strap, customizable interface, and the best thing ever, the gps. You can just get out and run! no need to map a course. My wife and I use them when we play just dance as well, just slap the watch unit down on the tv stand,…
  • If you enjoyed boxing, I would HIGHLY recommend martial arts. I am a kung fu practitioner and it has absolutely changed my life. It happens quickly too. You build up your joints, muscles bones, and stamina. And thats just the physical benefits. The emotional, spiritual, and mental benefits far outweigh them. You are more…

  • It really depends on my mood and the work out i'm doing. For running and weight lifting, I like heavier stuff, like five finger death punch, alter bridge, archenemy, so on and so forth. When i'm practicing kung fu or tai chi, i prefer more mellow music, like gorillaz :D A few songs in particular if you want some heavy…
