Here's a question: I see that a lot of the benefit of this is getting in more miles because your recovery is easier. I have a given number of hours I can fit in running during the week. Obviously, to maximize mileage for me means, in very broad terms, to run as fast as I can for those periods of time. I have no recovery…

Is there any chance you are losing or gaining weight? Even losing weight could be the problem, if your boobs and ribs aren't holding the band in place anymore.
-
Yes. Find a different trainer. A good running coach will be capable of giving you a complementary lifting plan. Personally I love lifting and the only problem I have is finding time to fit it all in, but just a short amount of time each week can be very effective.

I have a Petzl headlamp I use for street running and basic trails at night (and it's great for walking around campgrounds at night, etc), but for more technical trails I really like the headlamp plus one knuckle light. I hate to carry things and I don't find that the knuckle lights feel like that. I do wear a headband…

Thank you! Looks like I need to send a friend request!

Hey all! I definitely don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth because Dave is always so super awesome to do this every month, but I find the spreadsheet so much more motivating than my Garmin goals, for whatever reason. I wanted to check in and make sure that I hadn't missed a migration to a new group or something,…

So much this.

After five tris in two years, I would still LOVE to start with a newbie wave, just because my swimming is so poor. I don't really see any downside, given that you have some nerves about it.

Love reading all the diverse goals everyone here has! I signed up for my first marathon on May 3 and I can't really think too hard about the rest of the year. I am vaguely assuming I will transition to triathlons after that, but it will take a lot to catch back up on my swimming and biking. I'd love to say I would continue…

601 miles this year - I didn't have a goal. 2015 will be the first year I set a mileage goal, and I'm shooting for 900.

I run straight from work. Get dressed there and run around my work neighborhood before I head home. It's actually great to blow off steam after a tough day.
-
Yep. They just posted the "elevation" chart - three "hills" of about 35 feet. :D All before mile 15... and then a very slight rise for the next 5-6 miles followed by a very slight decline into the finish. Pretty perfect. And unlike the Ocean Drive marathon we were considering, it's not a point to point, so even if it's…

We chose... the inaugural Coastal Delaware Running Festival Marathon! May 3. Probably all sorts of a bad idea but there are no reviews so we won't know until we get there. ;)

It's funny, those three weeks do make us feel a lot safer weather-wise. That is a factor too that has us leaning toward Getttysburg. I appreciate your in-depth comments Carson, thanks!!

North Face fit all of those criteria. Love them. But I have found it has a lot to do with body shape/size.
-
Simply incredible. I am in awe! Thanks for sharing the experience.

Incredible results everyone!!!! Congrats Carrieendar!!!! I ran my third half marathon, Princeton Half Marathon, trained better than the last two, and shaved off four minutes as a result. I've sub-2:00'd before, but this time it wasn't by a few seconds - hit 1:56:06. Course had some huge hills but the downhills made up for…

I was able (I am pretty sure) to self-diagnose a heel pain that didn't match PF symptoms by googling. ;) There are a couple of injuries that often get mislabeled PF - I was dealing with peroneal tendinopathy. This is a good place to start: http://www.drpribut.com/sports/tendinopathy-zone-of-confusion.html I took a few…

Didn't read all the responses so I'm sorry if this is a repeat, but I love Bondi Band armbands.

^Love rounding off the month in the nick of time! I am in for 90. My last two months have both been "highest mileage ever" months, 71 and 85, and hopefully I will top that this month.
-
Congrats Dave! Ugh. Well it was good I held back on my estimate because I had to (chose to?) sit out NINE days to let a foot injury heal. It's still not 100% but it feels fine to run on. I thought plantar fasciitis but I think it may have just been another injury masquerading as PF. I'm not having the morning pain and I…

Why don't you just each run your own pace at Chicago? You are still doing it "together." If you got antsy on a training run, imagine how you will feel with race adrenaline and competition pushing you forward while you have to hold back to keep to your husband's pace.
-
Bumping up to 85 miles this month. Training plan will be about 95 miles but I'm putting some cushion in. My goal is to ramp up to 100 by November and stay at least there through April.
-
That backpacking trip sounds incredible! Fell short of my goal because I missed one long run, and with my work schedule I wasn't able to make it up. BUT - at 71ish miles I think it is my biggest month ever by one or two miles.
-
That's funny, because that's what I ended up doing, exactly. I concluded that it could be (a) peripheral vision or (b) tint, so after a lot of research, I ordered a pair of clear Kayennes. I've been wearing TYR Nest Pros, so I'm not sure how much better the Kayennes will be, but we'll see! I will still need to use my…

I'm pretty much a newbie, but I wanted to say congratulations!!!! I would save up for a road bike - it isn't just the tires, it's also a much lighter bike. You won't regret it! I always feel bad zooming by the women who don't have road bikes, because I know it's their bike holding them back!
-
I'm popping back in after a few months off for tri season - I am ramping mileage back up for the fall, so I'll only shoot for 80 this month.
-
^ definitely, which is why I specified my time. If OP just wants to run one, then she CAN without upping the mileage much. Like I said, not optimal, but safe and possible. I looked at my marathon training plan I will start later in the fall, and the longest weekday runs are usually 10 miles, with one 11 miler.
-
I know most here are advocates of high mileage, and I agree it is optimal, but I have trained successfully and injury free for 2:00 half marathons at a max of 25 mi/wk. I don't think you need to hit 45 mile weeks like you are to train for a HALF. In my book, you are well on your way to a marathon at that point, you just…

I have been diagnosed with PCOS. After two years of infertility, gaining 30 lbs coming off the pill, and gaining 60 lbs with each of my pregnancies, I have managed to be pretty successful in managing my weight and - well, had two kids. For the weight management, I suggest a low glycemic index diet, calorie counting, and…
