  • Milk first. What you're trying to do is keep the milk from being scalded by the water.
  • I'll cook a big pot of something on the weekends, measure it out into single serving Glad boxes and then use the MFP recipe calculator to figure out the nutrition per serving. Then they go into the freezer. It's great for lunch or a quick dinner. If you make a couple of week's worth of servings each weekend in a few weeks…
  • Awesome!
  • "Paleo Comfort Foods" is a great cookbook.
  • Set your goal for 2 pounds a week. Try it for a couple of months and see how you like it. You're the one in charge of your diet.
  • Not sexuality specifically, but I have confided past sins to friends only to have them use that to try to prove to me what a horrible person I am. Those are ex-friends now. And good riddance.
  • I agree - there is no better exercise for burning fat than walking. Another good option is swimming, if that's available. I remember when I weighed 270 that it was hard for me to walk for any distance because of lower back pain, I had to lose 30-40 pounds before that went away and I could really start exercising. But if he…
  • I buy Scharffen Berger 99% cacao unsweetened baking chocolate and melt it, then take dates, stuff them with an almond and dip them half in the chocolate and then in unsweetened flaked coconut. Three of those is about 150 calories and I have it 2-3 times a week. I also will take an ounce of the Scharffen Berger and eat it…
  • Thanksgiving is about traditional foods, so I'll be making some healthy tweaks, but nothing drastic - as evidenced by the bacon wrapped turkey I'm cooking. You can also find some good recipes at the whole foods website.
  • Just google slow cooker recipes for all you need to know. Cook enough for several meals and freeze them in individual servings. I do this all the time. It's a great time saver.
  • I can't ever remember how to post pics in these forums, but I do have new pics in my blog: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/bhankiii/view/scary-weighty-441082
  • On the other hand now when I look at pictures of myself a year ago - and almost 100 pounds heavier - I ask my partner, "why didn't you tell me I was THAT FAT?" But other people - no, I don't comment on their appearance, unless it's a complement. It's just not polite.
  • The science of sugar addiction (like alcohol or drug addiction) is well documented. It's a physiological issue, not a symptom of moral weakness.
  • A great easy breakfast is "overnight oatmeal". Just mix equal parts whole oats (I like Bob's Red Mill) and skim milk, add some dried fruit - apples, raisins, date, apricots, etc., some nuts if you want, and leave it in the fridge overnight. It's raw, healthy and delicious.
  • The thing about addiction is that moderation doesn't work. A little sugar just makes me want a little more. I could easily eat an entire pie and still not satisfy my sugar cravings because each bite only makes my body want more. I have eaten entire pies - only stopping when my stomach could no longer accommodate any more.…
  • This is terrific - raw pumpkin pie: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/bhankiii/view/raw-pumpkin-pie-439636 Another thing I make often is dates dipped in really good unsweetened chocolate (Scharffen-Bergers), sometimes stuffed with either nuts or cacao beans. I don't eat sugar and I don't eat artificial sweeteners, but I do…
  • I'm a serious sugar addict - the cravings ruined every diet I've ever been on. This time around I gave up sugar completely. I discovered that when I gave up sugar I also lost all my carb cravings - immediately. I still enjoy sweet things - I recently made a raw pumpkin pie sweetened only with dates, and I often have…
  • I see the problem - you're insane. You're asking your body to get to 8% body fat which is way way way below normal. It may be that the body you want is not obtainable given the body you were born with (it would certainly not be obtainable for me). Why don't you redefine your goals? At 130 pounds you don't need to lose…
  • I know how great it is to not have to shop at the Big n Fat stores anymore! And you have it right... it does take hard work, but so many people on this site have done it I can't help but believe that everyone can do it - if they just will.
  • The second one is awesome. How about this - take some glasses you already have, go to Hobby Lobby or Michael's and get some glass etching cream and some as gay as you want stencils, and etch some designs on the glasses. http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/10-ounce-etching-cream-195040/…
  • One of the ways I eat less is knowing that I have to log it, and sometimes the food isn't worth the effort of logging. If you want to eat less you should make eating less convenient.
  • I buy the big bags at Sam's and give it away in handfuls. There's usually nothing left, but if there is I take it to work. This year I did buy less of what I like (chocolate) and more of what I don't (Skittles, etc.)
  • Some gums contain xylitol. Xylitol is toxic to some animals, in particular dogs (surge in insulin, drop in blood sugar, liver toxicity). So if you're going to chew it, please don't spit it out on the ground. And if you are going to spit it out on the ground, please don't do it in my yard.
  • I like it, especially on fasting days. How much you need to drink to improve your digestion depends entirely on your digestion.
  • You are awesome! Enjoy the adventure that is your new life.
  • 1) What made you want to change? Some articles I read about clean and whole eating, plus I'm the sort of person who likes to do for himself. 2) How did you go about making the change? I cleaned out the pantry and threw out everything that contained sugar or preservatives. 3) Did you start by slowly reducing or going cold…
  • Sent you a friend request!
  • Ignore it knowing that your own dignity and self image is worth more than any piece of pie. Then rearrange the fridge so that when your partner opens the door the pie falls onto the floor.
  • Bad habits are hard to break, but it's all just a matter of practice. The more you do something the more normal it becomes. You shouldn't expect it to be easy, nothing worthwhile is.
