I buy Scharffen Berger 99% cacao unsweetened baking chocolate and melt it, then take dates, stuff them with an almond and dip them half in the chocolate and then in unsweetened flaked coconut. Thanksgiving is about traditional foods, so I'll be making some healthy tweaks, but nothing drastic - as evidenced by the bacon wrapped turkey I'm cooking. You can also find some good recipes at the whole foods website.

Just google slow cooker recipes for all you need to know. Cook enough for several meals and freeze them in individual servings. I do this all the time. It's a great time saver.

On the other hand now when I look at pictures of myself a year ago - and almost 100 pounds heavier - I ask my partner, "why didn't you tell me I was THAT FAT?" But other people - no, I don't comment on their appearance, unless it's a complement. It's just not polite.

A great easy breakfast is "overnight oatmeal". Just mix equal parts whole oats (I like Bob's Red Mill) and skim milk, add some dried fruit - apples, raisins, date, apricots, etc., some nuts if you want, and leave it in the fridge overnight. It's raw, healthy and delicious.

The thing about addiction is that moderation doesn't work. A little sugar just makes me want a little more. I could easily eat an entire pie and still not satisfy my sugar cravings because each bite only makes my body want more. One of the ways I eat less is knowing that I have to log it, and sometimes the food isn't worth the effort of logging. If you want to eat less you should make eating less convenient.

I buy the big bags at Sam's and give it away in handfuls. There's usually nothing left, but if there is I take it to work. This year I did buy less of what I like (chocolate) and more of what I don't (Skittles, etc.)

Some gums contain xylitol. Xylitol is toxic to some animals, in particular dogs (surge in insulin, drop in blood sugar, liver toxicity). So if you're going to chew it, please don't spit it out on the ground. And if you are going to spit it out on the ground, please don't do it in my yard.

Bad habits are hard to break, but it's all just a matter of practice. The more you do something the more normal it becomes. You shouldn't expect it to be easy, nothing worthwhile is.
