Remember you are in it for the long haul...what is important is the pattern of weight loss over 3 or 6 months, or a year. A week here or there of weight gain is no big deal in the big picture .

The two BMI charts I looked at have you smack dab in the middle of the "normal" category. I think you are going to have a tough time losing 5lbs in a month. It sounds like you are good where you are.

The best machines or free weights are the ones you will use regularly, without getting discouraged. All of us start with the machines. Do routines that keep you motivated, and changed it up every once in a while to keep things fresshhh.
