  • Just trying to bump this topic. I have low t3 but other values are normal, and a very low metabolism. I am currently taking 20mcg cytomel a day but I'm not sure it is doing anything.
  • Well not recent results but I was a pretty frequent drinker when I was younger - between one and three times a week. I stopped completely when my first child was little and easily took off 15 pounds without cutting out any food. It is a really big source of calories and then bad food choices after the drinks! Good Luck!!
  • I've been at a low weight for years now but about 8 years ago I had about 30 pounds to lose. For me it really is a matter of breaking bad habits and developing new ones. Honestly I have been sober for about 15 years but the changes that I have made with food were and continue to be much much harder than letting go of…
  • If that is truly the case then I would strongly suggest you go to a Dr. who will do a THROUGH blood panel - not just TSH but cortisol, free t3, reverse t3, free t4, and thyroid antibodies. What has your eating/stress/life been like previous to eating 1500 calories a day?
  • I think it is individual. I am 5'6" and about 112. According to the charts I am supposed to weight about 130. Well when I am 130 I am a size 10!! I have such a small boned pear shaped body that I don't carry weight well. My good friend is 5'6" and 130 and looks like a supermodel but doesn't work out so it isn't muscle. I…
  • You know I am not so sure about this one. Have you had your hormones tested to see what the levels are? I don't have medical training but I have had amenorrhea from too much exercise and stress and just generally throwing off my body. I have weighed less than I do now and had regular periods for years with no problem but…
  • I've had a similar experience of gaining at 1200 calories a day. My RMR was amazingly low when I got it tested - no doubt from frequent cardio and under eating. If I can make a suggestion please find a good Dr. (probably an alternative one) who will test your thyroid - not just TSH which is what they usually do, but free…
  • age: 39 Height: 5'6" Weight: 110 33-24-36 I am a really small person but my thighs are huge in comparison to the rest of me.
  • I finally had my RMR tested and it was 20% lower than it should have been despite all of the working out I was doing. Just curious, have you had problems with brain fog, dizziness or confusion or extreme exhaustion? Could your weight be water retention? I seem to put on several pounds every time I try to work out now. I…
  • I don't pretend to be an expert but that sounds exactly what happened to me last year around the time my period stopped. Unfortunately I kept going and am now a hormonal mess. I threw off my whole system and feel like crap all of the time. Are you restricting calories too? I can relate to being afraid of stopping, but…
  • I was wondering if this worked itself out for you? I have exactly the same thing going on. I am a small girl like you and two months ago I changed from way too much cardio to bodypump, lifting, and kettlebell workouts. My goal was to maintain but to increase my metabolism (which had kind of stalled) by adding muscle. I…
  • I did have an RMR test (the tube you blow in) at the wellness center by a hospital and it showed that my metabolism was 20% lower than expected.
  • Does bodybugg or bodymedia record your actual burn or just what you should be getting for your height and age? I know for a fact my metabolism is much lower than it should be from endurance training and cutting calories.
  • If you don't mind my asking what kind of gym do you belong to? I used to struggle with the same issue and used to only work out at places like Women' Workout World, Curves, etc. I belonged to XSport for a while and, even though I was in good shape, felt very out of place. A gym like your local YMCA should contain a very…
  • Thanks for the posts. Actually until now I have maintained 5' 6" 110 for years eating a lot of calories and working out - I am also not one of those people you look at and think are supper skinny. Not saying I don't obsess about my body (I obviously do) but it's not what it sounds like - I'm 19% body fat not a walking…
  • Thanks - it's been 6 weeks though, shouldn't the water retention have worked itself out? Also am trying to create the illusion of a smaller lower body (I am very pear shaped) and I am embarrassed to say that I really do prefer smaller legs to bigger muscular ones. Should I ditch lower body? Just keep doing upper body? I…
  • I just got a fitbit and am having the same issue. On days that I walk it will say my calories should be at 2400 (I maintain at around 1600 on those days). On days I take high power lifting or aerobic classes it will only say like 1200. I think it must just be best at tracking movement - I do swing my arms a lot when I walk!
  • Hi there. I found myself in a similar situation. How long have you been dieting? What is your exercise routine? For me the answer was years and 6 to 7 times a week. I am at a low weight but was finding it hard to maintain eating 1200 calories with intense workouts everyday. Turns out I had damaged my metabolism from years…
  • Wow I could have written this myself. I found myself in your position about this time last year and started reading about metabolic damage in the fall. The problem was I just couldn't give up the cardio - I was terrified I would pile on weight. I was doing 50 minutes of very high intensity cardio almost daily (I usually…
  • Thanks everyone. Sorry I didn't see how snotty that comment seemed that I posted. I know the vast majority of people here don't have deep seeded issues and just are trying to get healthy. Didn't mean to sound judgmental. :) Thanks again!
  • Yes I knew scale weight gain was common - but my clothes are tight as well. Yes there are deep seeded issues...or likely I wouldn't be on MFP in the middle of the day LOL.
  • We went in March and it really wasn't a problem. I have eaten really clean for a while but I was more worried about there not being any food choices at the restaurants. I just looked at all the menus online before we went. Almost every restaurant has a salad with grilled chicken and honestly the treats are so expensive…
  • I can't believe the amount of great information that people have been giving me on this subject - I really can't thank you enough!! Not to keep asking questions here but I have been looking over my food diary and it looks like my "net" calories have been somewhere around 1000-1200. However this is after subtracting…
  • Sorry I am new to this board - I thought those questions would be sent to specific people!! :)
  • Thanks again for your post. I am going to get a personal trainer for the lifting part. So I will eat at maintenance (not what MFP tells me but based on the lower number the doctor gave me). I know I should cut out cardio - is there any kind that I can do such as the Jacobs Ladder machine or Rowing? I have an anxiety…
  • Thanks so much for the response. So you said eat at maintenance - and since I know my real RMR is 100 instead of 1260 like the calculators say I would eat at the maintenance that they gave me at the hospital - which was 1008 to 1308. How long do I eat at this before staring to increase the calories? Also can I do any…
  • Thanks for all of the replies!! Does anyone know where to find a comprehensive plan for metabolic recovery? Also I am going to get a physical trainer for a while as I am clueless about weight training aside from doing some reps with weights or using the machines. What kind of questions would I ask to make sure I find a…
  • HI.I was wondering how this turned out for you? I just got mine done today and it was 1000. I am 5'6 and 110 and exercise 5 to 6 times a week. I used to have a really high metabolism so I am figuring I did this to myself by too much cardio. I am also not getting a period at the moment - but my body fat percentage is fine…
