Quite frankly, I prefer 2007 to 2017. Can we please go back? Maybe this thread is a portal in the time-space continuum!

It's nice to see that the anti-diet soda arguments were just as baseless 9 and half years ago as they are today.

1,500 calories is the minimum a male should be eating, and you should be eating more than that if you're working out. 1,200 is too low. You will lose lean body mass eating that little. Did you put your stats into MFP? How many calories does MFP tell you to eat when you input your stats and your goals?

Another vote for this. You don't have much weight to lose, so you will be running a pretty small deficit to lose weight. When your deficit is that small, you need to be as accurate as possible. A digital food scale can help you do that.

Same here. He'd have to pry my coffee from my cold, dead hands.
-
Yes - my coffee creamer was adding up to 140 calories per day. That can really eat into your deficit. I track anything with calories.

This. I'd also be willing to bet that genetics plays a part.

There are plenty of professions that require you to study these subjects, except maybe the GMO processes. That doesn't make every doctor, nurse, dentist, or lab tech is qualified to give advice on whether GMOs are safe. But you are not the only scientist on these boards, and most of the ones here, from what I can see,…

Is a degree in horticulture equivalent to a degree in biology, chemistry, physiology, nutrition, genetics, engineering, and epidemiology combined? Because if not, I don't see how you can say definitively "GMOs are not safe." You are a plant expert, not a human body expert. *ETA: I'd love to see the vehemently anti-GMO…

I agree with this, so much. Though this seems to be the MO with most for-profit weight loss plans. I really can't stand beachbody, but it really isn't unique to them.

You are absolutely correct, @kgeyser, and thank you for expanding on my point. I was simply pointing out that if OP *is* adding stuff to her coffee, such as milk or creamer, and she enjoys it, she shouldn't have to cut it out if she's tracking and wants to continue to drink her coffee how she prefers it. Obviously if you…

This, especially if you're exercising.

Thanks, I didn't catch that. Still, doesn't change the fact that she should be tuning out anything a trainer is saying about detoxing, unless he's telling her "Don't do it".
-
Luckily, if you're tracking your food and understand CICO, this is nothing to be concerned about.
-
I will join the echo chamber and say that you don't have to go low carb to lose weight, and your trainer is full of crap. Trainers are generally not very educated on nutrition - they may be able to show you good squat form, but when they start talking about cleansing the "toxins" in your body, that's when you should stop…
-
How are you tracking your intake? Do you weigh/measure or do you eyeball? Also, are you planning to never eat out again? Never have snacks or treats again? Why cut everything out? Adding some of that stuff back into your diet in moderation is going to help you meet your calorie goals and will be much more sustainable long…

The initial weight loss was mostly water weight. That will start to even out now as you go along. If you just started lifting weights, your muscles will retain water while they repair themselves. That said - if you're eating on average 2136 calories per day and getting adequate nutrients, you will be fine. Two weeks is not…

Those are my favorite.

I'm doing my part to dissolve my organs right now. Thanks, Dunkin' Donuts Hazelnut K-Cups!

You can eat whatever you like for breakfast. There is no reason to eat "breakfast" foods in the morning. Eat what you want, when you want it.
-
How much weight do you have left to lose? If you lost 2 lbs over the past month, that's an average of .5 lbs per week, which isn't bad depending on how far you have left to go. Weight loss is not going to be completely linear - you may hold on to some weight for a few weeks and then lose a few lbs all at once, or you could…

Just estimate the amount of raw red pepper that you used and weigh it raw next time. It's not going to make or break your day - red bell peppers are a really low calorie food and you'll probably only be off by a few calories. Just breathe - this is not life or death!

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you! I have not been able to get back into the mindset since the holidays, either. I don't really have any advice, but I can at least commiserate. Winter is so hard for me. All I want to do is lay under blankets and eat all the foods.

@elphie754 You know, I heard that craving ice is a sign of anemia - you should probably get that checked out! jk, I read the thread  I have always loved ice. I had bouts of anemia when I was a teenager, but I don't have that problem anymore and I still love ice. Our ice maker at work has the good ice (like Sonic…

If you're sedentary, 1330 seems about right given your height and weight. But if you do exercise and MFP gives you more calories, I would eat at least 50-75% of them back. You want to make sure it is a sustainable plan for you, and you still need to fuel your workouts.

When you're eating at a calorie deficit, it means that you are eating less calories than it takes for you to maintain your weight. Every day, our body burns a certain amount of energy (calories). If you take in the same number of calories every day as your maintenance calories, you maintain your weight. If you consistently…
