Well I have had several fitbits for the last 3 years. But based on the specs and its sinking with mfp, I did buy a microsoft band this morning.

I am on 20mg Lipitor. My last numbers are total cholesterol 154, HDL 90, LDL 48, Triglyceride 79. In my experience Lipitor lowers my LDL from about 150 to 50, diet and exercise have doubled my HDL and lowering carbs in my diet have lowered triglycerides by 2/3. Diet and exercise have had no impact on LDL for me.

Ok, I have read and thought about this too. So my understanding of what causes diabetes; 1. Genetics, nothing you can do about this. So stop blaming yourself. If your genetics predispose you to diabetes, well that’s the way it is. 2. Being overweight and not exercising speeds the development of diabetes up. So, whenever…

Find a new doctor. First choice drug is Metformin not Actos. Metformin is cheap, helps you respond better and has no major side effects. But your numbers are borderline.

Relion at Walmart $9. for 50 strips. A meter is $16. You can also buy it at Walmart.com and have it shipped.

Best is to get a glucose meter and check your glucose after you eat. That way you can figure out how many carbs you can eat without spiking too high. For me it is something like net 10 g for breakfast, 15 lunch, 25 dinner.

2000 mg Metformin, 1000 morning, 1000 evening 100mg Januvia
-
I have the same. For me metformin and Januvia keep it down.

1.5 cup of rice is 65-70g of carbs. For one meal that is a lot for most of us diabetics.

I was very similar too you 10 years ago, Tried diet, loosing weight, etc, LDL did not change. I added Crestor 10 mg/day, which lowered my LDL from 170 to 80. I have been using Crestor since 2004 with no side effects. Last year I tried a couple months without Crestor, LDL went up to 170 again and after I started came down…

Yes, me too. I was hoping we could move beyond “fear mongering and conspiracy driven speculation”

I also sometimes get a spike during/after a lot of exercise. But the numbers drop back to normal after 15/30 minutes or so. Eating some carbs during exercise helps.

So my brother in law got bariatric surgery in Mexico yesterday. He is in his 30ties, and obese, not morbidly obese. He has no insurance, and no plan to have checkups when he gets back. I have problems understanding bariatric surgery, but doing it in Mexico, with no prep and follow-up plan???? I don’t know what to say.

If you can't control either the morning, or the after meal, glucose levels with diet and exercise, it is time for medication. The consequences of high glucose are guaranteed, the side effects of any medication only occur in a few cases. Go talk to your doctor and see what the options are.

Thanks everyone. I looked around a bit. I think I am going to get the Dahon Formula S18, which is about $750 here.

OK, I have summarized this post below. Note I also made a seperate post of this under Why is there an obesity epidemic, part 2. My question was about large populations, not individuals. Reading all this, it seems the overwhelming opinion of the question why individual are obese is that: 1. It’s the persons own fault. If…

Ok, so what A1C, and glucose do you accept as normal? What is your morning reading and how high do you skips after meals? I am curious to see if we agree what a normal and what an acceptable reading is. I agree crabs are not evil, I eat what I can within limits. And measuring glucose tells me my limits and I adjust as I go…

Carbs are carbs for a diabetic. The only differences are that some carbs are slower absorbed than others, and fiber does not count. I am Type 2, diabetic, BMI is 22.5, I exercise 1-2 hours a day etc. Still if I eat 40-50 g carbs in one meal my glucose will spike above 200. Spikes as high as this lead long-term to lots of…

Ok OP. I don’t think high carb, low fat is good if you have diabetes. There is lots of evidence against this, and just citing a website is not convincing me. Any idiot can start a website and post whatever he makes up. Realize, that that's how those idiots make money of you. Reading your posts, you don’t seem to be worried…

Can diabetes be cured by losing weight, eating right and exercise? No, it is a progressive disease, but you can control your glucose levels and prevent complications from high glucose levels. In addition, you can slow the progression of your diabetes by diet, weight, exercise, and medication. My diabetes is controlled, but…

Tasology, start your own religion, much better profit margin.

Yes, I agree with this.
-
correct, keep taking it, don't skip.

To O.P An A1C of 6.3 is an average glucose of 137, normal is below 100. Note this is average; you are likely to have spikes much higher after eating. Spikes above 160-180 will lead to long-term complications. Read up on it, none of them are pretty and the average lifespan of a diabetic is 10 years less, heart attach rate 4…

Hi, yes I have been in China for 3 months and I am diabetic. So eating out, it is hard to avoid lots of white carbs, such as needles, rice, bread, dumplings, steamed buns, etc. That’s where you get most of your calories from and of course all the sugary drinks. Limit the amount and the serving size of these and eat more…

Ok, lowered Metformin to 1000 and the Januvia to 50 two weeks ago. Morning glucose increased from around 90 to 126 in 10 days. So lowering medication is nt working for me and I am back on 2000 Metformin and 100 Januvia again.
-
Ok, medication increase. I did 3 months of diet with very low carbs before May, but only got the A1C from 6 to 5.7, thus I started medication and Metformin alone was not enough, hence the added Januvia. With medication it dropped to 4.6. Then I still had too many spikes above 140 even with eating almost no carbs. Hence the…

You know, These random made up facts. I am still amazed about where people get all this crap from, or if they just make it up all themselves.
-
I agree. If your cholesterol, glucose or blood pressure numbers are fine, I would not take medication. But if they are not, I would take them. The only exception might be a low dose of aspirin, like 100mg per day. There are an increasing number of studies showing that this might be beneficial.
