Stop Stop, please, I can't go around in a mental circle like this three times in a row. Just keeping up with the conspiracy's out there drove me nuts and debunking them is impossible. I actually wrote a science paper about one on ratios (OK science talk a bit esoteric) that was as far as I can determined, debunked first in…

Been there, done that. And then you realize how many idiots are out there and decide to move on. Although I have to say the notion of government conspiracies driving our health problems, and people defending magical things like coconut oil, HCG, Paleo, Shakes, etc, has declined lately. So maybe there is a bit of hope.

Me too. Spend 3 weeks in France, doing pretty much the same as you and gained 1 lb. I think it is the more walking and smaller portions in restaurants in Europe.
-
The same here, and yes ultimately eat less or exercise more.

Ok, me too. I have been using Crestor 10 mg for 5 years now which got LDL consistently down from 180 to 90, but had no impact on HDL or triglicerides . 6 months ago, my glucose was too high, so reading up, I decided to lose weights I lost 35 lb, from BMI 28 to 22. I cut out most saturated fat and red meat, increased fiber…

And here a similar "very limited" study showing that high fat increases, and low fat decreases Alzheimer’s disease risk. http://www.christianpost.com/news/low-fat-diet-may-reduce-alzheimers-risk-study-shows-51144/ Basically you can find a simple limited study that supports all kind of things. It is better to not let you…

Yes, I have been on Crestor, 10 mg for something like 6 years. It works, brings LDL way down for me, no side effects at all. In the last six months I have lost 40 lb, bought my BMI from 28 to 22, increased fiber intake, ate much more fish and much less red meat. This helped a lot, HDl way up, LDL the same, triglicerides…

Don't trust any government - health non-profit health information. They are in conspiracy with Monsanto / agriculture / drug industry to keep us sick, so they can make money of us. Only trust websites, that have discovered the real, and only truth facts, about diet and health. Ignore the fact that the quacks make money…

You now, I was married for 15 years and got divorced 7 years ago. Looking back, we should have separated at least 5 years earlier. Goals, objectives and values change when you grow up, and if they diverge, what is the point of trying to argue which each other. I was, and my ex likely too, not happy at all. Met someone else…

Ok grokette, Since you are such a strong promoter of Atkins, Paleo, HVG, high saturated fat and cholesterol diet. What are your results so far? I have posted mine above just counting calories. We have been posting here about the same time. Are you making progress? And if so, are you doing better not counting calories?

Losing weight is not easy, and you have a good point gastric surgery is worse than HCG. The key point is calories in and calories out. I think that HCG is nothing better than a placebo, but if it works for you, use it and bring your weight down. However, you can't do HCG for life, and a 500 calorie is pretty drastic. You…

Yes, guilty, and I get the point, but once in a while I can't help myself. Yes, it is key to lose (or loose, if you prefer) weight and any way that you do it is great. Being overweight is a major health issue. Any diet or approach, if it works for you great, stick with it. We have an increasing obesity problem in the US…

www.mapmyfitness.com. I used this too, works well just a bit slow on my old Iphone 3g. Just switched to a Samsung Focus Windows Mobile 7. Anyone knows anyapp for that? Thanks.

I like wolfram alpha bmr bmi You can use the bmi calculater to calculate what weight you want to get too andput that weight into the bmr calculater. It also shows you averages for the US.

Ok, mellow a bit please. A couple of points. 1. This is a meta-analysis, I have done those, but there are limitations with this analysis. They are often done if there a mixed results in different studies. But the studies included in this analyses are all based on small and inconclusive studies and this is not much better.…

Hi your choice. If this is the way that works for you to lose weight, go for it. But, all that the supporters have shown so far are references to crappy misleading websites that inflate some crappy misleading studies. And sorry, I do not have the time to research every mention of an article. In total, there is nothing…

Shoot,, reading this my 2.5 year old is easy. This night she said at 8, I am ready for bed, put me in. So I did, she read a book, actually looked at the pictures for 10 minutes, and then called out.lLights off, I want to go to sleep. And that's pretty typical.

I don't know, these grant things get complicated. Many different entities fund research for various reasons, and it does not necessarily mean there is a bias. But you never get to see the contract that the researcher has to sign, so you do not know the actual details, if there are restrictions on what they can publish or…

Sorry my mistake, somthing close to that: "The study appears in the July 2002 issue of the American Journal of Medicine and was funded by an unrestricted grant from the Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine. " This is from http://www.lowcarb.ca/articlesb/article343.html, The website that you mentioned. I did not check…
Like I said I will let the reader here decide.
So yes, to follow up on this I agree, it is up to the reader to decide. This study changed both calorie intake and carb intake. So there is no way to separate them. One, or both matter. But then that's the problem with many weight loss studies sponsored by…

OK, I do have access to primary literature and to pick on the Duke article that you mention, there is a follow up note: Fleming. Am J M 2003, 114, 78. Caloric intake, not carbohydrate or fat consumption, determines weight loss. This states the following: "Because the average caloric intake reported in the study was 1447…

Ok, We don't have to argue Atkins. There is no scientific data supporting it. Hence you are not going to convince me that it is a healthy lifestyle. But as I said, if it works for you, great go for it. Counting calories is key in diets, not just simple lowering carbs or fats. Focusing on low fat or low carb can be part of…

To go back to the original poster. I think you have two groups of people posting here. 1. The dieters, who are looking for something magical that works for them, in this case Atkins, but there are many different fad diets, HCG, Paleo, it is hard to keep up on what the flavor of the month is. The bottom line is, if it works…

Amen, But than as a 50 year old with 2.5 year and a spouse who is 46, accidents do happen, and that's ok.

Yes, food was an issue for me too. My ex had all kind of food requirements, no deadly nightshades, no red meat, (which is fine with me), no soy, no mixing carbs with protein only one at a meal, etc. Drove me nuts, as I do all the cooking. And it changed on a monthly basis, and she expected me to dump all food that did not…

yes kefir and greek yoghurt, love them both.

Hi Aesop101, Same here, started in October 2010 too. Added breakfast, which I did not do before, and cut down on bread with lunch and after dinner snacks. Peanuts especially did me in; Using MFP I figured out that one serving is not a whole full bowl. I did figure the water thing out years ago, and yes I used to get…

Interesting, not me either. I am also getting close to my goal. But then visiting family this weekend, I had three donuts Saturday followed by two tamales, etc. And in total ate more this Saturday and Sunday than any weekend in the last 7 months. And I still was hungry, made a big salad this evening and ate two of them.…
