  • Arrogance, thank you for your responses. Regarding my squat, I'm trying to keep the bar in a low bar position - it feels like I've got it in the shelf, but my husband has said it looks a little high to him. What do you think? I am wearing Chuck Taylors that I got recently. Before that, I tried going barefoot, and I…
  • Thanks so much for taking the time to review my videos, DopeItUp! For the squats, I'm really trying to ensure that I'm on my heels throughout by curling up my toes (a pointer from the Starting Strength wiki). I'm not sure what else I can do to enforce it but will try to remember to double-check it next time. As for the…
  • I could really use some feedback on my form for all of the Stronglifts 5x5 lifts I'm doing. I started the program a few weeks ago (had been working with dumbells and bodyweight prior to it), and I got a bit ahead of myself; I was excited by increasing the weight and neglected to check my form until recently. I could see I…
  • I am using Scooby's program and have nearly completed phase 3 - I'm very pleased with my progress so far. You can view the program here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRznU6pzez0
  • Take a look at commonkindness.com. They tend to have coupons for organic and natural products.
  • We made this recently and loved it: http://www.food.com/recipe/sauteed-brussels-sprouts-with-lemon-and-pistachios-279934
  • We workout at home. I was willing to give the gym a try, but my husband really didn't like the idea; he's heard too many horror stories about the gym. We also have two young children, and it's complicated to work out a schedule that would accommodate all of us. We made some space in our garage, and my husband researched…
  • Hi, everyone! What a great idea for a group! I had my first baby at 37 and my second at 40, and I can relate to much of what the rest of you have said. I definitely wasn't ready to have children earlier in life. I was very career focused and also wanted to travel, enjoy the nightlife, etc. By the time I hit 32-23, I…
  • About one year - the stuff just doesn't appeal to me anymore.
  • I had the same problem. I didn't know about the shaking method, so I actually tried heating them a bit and then leaving them sitting at room temperature for a while. That worked for me, but I'll trying shaking them next time.

  • I'm also doing Stronglifts 5x5 and would welcome more strength training friends.
  • Curse of the Azure Bonds on my trusty old Commodore 64! I was so enthralled that I spent every spare moment on it over a month or two (the loading times for those old floppies were insane when you think back on it).
  • I'm struggling with the OHP too (and also the bench press). Has anyone tried working on your trouble areas on the "off" days? For example, if I do my normal SL schedule M-W-F, I would go and do some bench presses and/or OHPs on T-Th-S. Would this help? Hurt? I was thinking that since the weight is still too low on those,…
  • Like many of you, my favorite lift is the squat. I think a lot of it is a matter of famliarity - I started doing unweighted squats way back in Feb. and advanced to doing squats with dumbells (increasing weight over time), so when I moved to SL, obviously it's different with the bar, but I at least was quite familiar with…
  • It was an interesting transition. I had been following MFP's calorie limits the whole time, but as I dropped closer to my goal, the calories kept bumping down, and I started getting cranky. At that point, I started eating a bit more even though it went against MFP. The last 5 lbs were stubborn, but once they came off, I…
  • As a response to that issue, Arctic Zero had their products independently lab tested; it's only fair to check out their side of the story and what was found: https://www.facebook.com/arcticzero/posts/10151137628042847 http://www.arcticzero.com/documents/EMSL_Results.pdf Note that I don't work for them or anything; when I…
  • I respectfully disagree. Arctic Zero was my staple dessert treat while I was losing weight, and I continue to eat it during maintenance. I'm not going to say that it's the most amazing ice cream in the world, but some of the flavors are quite good. Vanilla is probably the tastiest, but I also like their chocolate when…
  • I use and love chocolate PB2 in place of peanut butter for everything - in smoothies, on top of ice cream, dip bananas in it, in various recipes, etc. I really prefer the chocolate to the straight PB2.

  • I was making a dinner that called for white cooking wine. We were out of it but had some Merlot on hand. I thought that might be even tastier. Oh, it was foul! I completely ruined the dinner by using the wrong type of wine! I also recently tried to make this recipe:…
  • Love it! My favorite recipe for it is here: http://dandydishes.blogspot.com/2011/10/spaghetti-squash-au-gratin.html#.USemL1rwJuJ
  • Definitely yay, but yeah, I don't view it as a pasta substitute. I've tried it a few different ways, and the way that my family (and I) liked best was Au Gratin: http://dandydishes.blogspot.com/2011/10/spaghetti-squash-au-gratin.html#.USemL1rwJuJ
  • I'd just advise to check the ingredients list and make sure you know what's in there. When I first bought protein powder, I didn't realize all of the stuff that they sometimes add in, some of which I did not want, and some of them are higher in cholesterol, sugar, and/or sodium than you may care for. I've moved away from…
  • Yet another gamer here! I'm mainly into RPGs (Skyrim and Risen are the two I'm into at the moment), but I also play Civ V and Sims 3 and the occasional MMO (currently Neverwinter open beta). With two little ones, I don't have the time for games that I once did, and I now put my fitness ahead of gaming, but I still love to…
  • Nike+Kinect for Xbox 360. I don't use it anymore, but for 4 months, I used it for strength training. When I started, I was a complete newbie, unable to do a push-up and finding 10lb dumbells heavy. Over time, I progressed from "easy" all the way to "intense" mode using the Quickstart portion of the program (so that I could…
  • Thanks so much for that video link! I've been trying to work up to it on my own, but it will be great to have a plan.
  • Yep, I love Chocolate PB2 and use it in all kinds of stuff, a lot of my baking, and I also love to dip bananas in it and top my ice cream with it. There are some recipe ideas here: http://www.bellplantation.com/recipes.
  • I'm curious about the 2nd question as well. Is there any difference in doing all of your sets in one session or splitting them up to various times during the day (regardless of goal)?
  • I was concerned about it, even though my mom's friend who is a nurse said that I shouldn't be - that in fact she considers 2300 mg sodium a day to be the *minimum* healthy adults should consume. I figured she must be wrong, but now I'm not so sure, especially since reading this article:…
  • I agree with doing a full body workout - I've been doing strength and weight training with a variety of exercises, but the two that I think have really helped out my abs (granted, this is not a scientific assessment!) are planks and push-ups.
  • Great thread! I'm currently using dumbells only, and I'm always looking for other exercises/variations to keep my momentum and interest going.
