  • I use a heartrate monitor and love it. The chest strap takes getting use to. There are some models that are just the watch with no HRM. I burned 1000 plus calories today. Glad I had the HRM to record it so I could eat more. I use a Timex but there are many great companies.,
  • My dad is an ice cream guy. For me it is Baked Goods: I love Apple fritters, muffins and pecan braids from Panera bread and other pastries. Also reducing my favorite food group of pizza has been tough.
  • Thanks guys. I think I am going to maintain my current weight and work on proper running and lifting form as I go toward my goals. Core exercise will not be for the sake of vanity since at my weight it is unlikely to show the part of my bodyas well as others.
  • Any thoughts folks?
  • ^ Very true the excitement of the race pushes you even more.
  • You are already a speedster in my eyes. My first 5k was about 34 minutes. I now run at 30 minutes or less. The cool thing about running is that it is an individual sport. Run the best you can and randomly cheer on people that you pass or pass you.
  • I do not use a pedometer so I am not sure of how different it is with a treadmill. I do know that every treadmill company is different which makes the pace number a bit harder. See if it gives you options to enter that data in the treadmill. Not sure why the big difference. Running treadmills has helped me run faster. I am…
  • Ice is very important to help reduce the swelling. I would also take an ibuprofen if you can. To help with the swelling. Hopefully it is just a pull. If you have a foam roller or a tennis ball you can massage your leg with that. Feel better soon!

  • I fluctuate quite often. Remember that you are also new to logging in info on a daily basis. You have to log things for a few weeks and see what has worked and what does not. You also may need to do more that 1200 calories. I recently got on the Heart rate monitor kick. Try wearing one to Zumba and see what you burn. Then…
  • I agree with everything Tufel said. Pace yourself. I walk the bleachers at UF stadium in Florida. Even walking it puts my heart rate and the same pace of my running. My legs feel like jello. Make sure that you do not try to run all the bleachers and do every move in circuit training if you need rest.
  • Keep up the good work! Appreciate the motivation.
  • Though my question is a little bit different I think we have similar questions about our bodies. I am doing a workout program that does have a lot of ab work in it and I am gaining some definition. I have love handles. When my knee is okay I like running distance and lifting weights to increase my maximum bench press. As…
  • Remind him that the purpose of your goal is to live a healthier and stronger life. If I were married I would support anything that could add years to her life. The healthier you are the better for both of you. Be blessed.
  • The best tips are to get there early so that you have your number and time chips or anything else already established. I do most of mine alone. It is nice to see people you know there but slowing down for others or trying to run too fast to catch up with your fast friends makes running hard. I run my best at my own pace.…
  • Publix brand Fat Free Light. Cherry vanilla, blueberry, Peach mango passion fruit. I like traditional yogurt over the Greek kind. Still trying to get used to the acquired taste of Greek Yogurt.
  • Congrats! My first 5K started many more races. I hope that you will run with endurance toward your goals and do many more 5K's

  • You may be interested in joining one of the MFP Insanity groups. I am in a Tapout XT group.
  • I only do mine while exercising. It could be a nice experiment for you if you choose to wear it all day on an non-workout day out of curiosity. I only use it when I know I am going to burn a large amount of calories.

  • If you are experiencing some symptoms make an appointment with your doctor. I have no experience with that part of my health. I hope you will be okay. I knew a guy that had some weight on him but was of average weight for his age but developed thyroid issues and was scrawny as a rod. I hope it is nothing. :-)
  • This is from a comic in the newspapers. "The script may be hard to read. The duck has a bazooka and sits in the cabinet to keep the pig from eating.
  • Never heard of this before. A few ideas: Buying large bags of beans and bags of rice is cheaper than buying canned beans or the small packs of rice. Beans are high in protein and the rice is your carb. You will want to mix it up with another option instead of eating it for breakfast lunch and dinner. Before a mission trip…
  • I am not sure if I am going to maintain weight or gain from where I am at. I agree that using more than just the phone app has improved my appreciation of MFP as well.
  • I do try to take up the extra "earned calories" the major consideration is that these are calories earned not "sugar or fat" earned. Try to eat a carb like pasta to recoup for lost energy. Since I am trying to maintain weight it usually claims that after my exercise is entered that I need to hit close to their number to…
  • I have a CCW Concealed carry license. I do not run with a firearm because I am more focused on the specific goal of running and I know that my already defunct stride will be off even worst with weight distributed to a certain side. I think a small 1-3 inch knife is light enough and versatile enough of a tool to use and run…
  • Thanks for asking this. I eat about the same for breakfast on occasion. I like to do olive oil as the oil. I add salsa and some cheddar or four-cheese Mexican style. Got some good info from others on this. I do worry about cholesterol when done every day. My taste buds get bored so I often do oatmeal or cereal to mix it up.
  • I think your friends will be much more understanding than you think. Maybe you could inspire a new tradition at your place? New activities that do not center around food can bring you guys closer. I hope you will be honest and share all of your feelings in a clear and loving way. Maybe a few days, months or years from now…
  • You are emotional because both of these people are putting your health and life in danger. Here you are on a calorie counting/ workout website. Not far off there are people that are putting OTC or illegal drugs in their body. Do not be unequally yoked. Kick him to the curve. How would you feel if you got pulled over and…
  • Start in the flats as a beginner but you should take on those hills. Running hills allowed me to become so much stronger in my running goals and strength. I was 190ish and dropped to between 165-170 over about 6 months of only running. I now incorporate more weights than running but maintain between 165 -175. Get some…

  • I weigh in almost very other day. Sometimes twice a day. I have realized that it is unhealthy for me to weigh in every day or multiple times in one day. I now do it before breakfast when I first wake up and try not to do it day after day.
  • Go for it! The wisdom and heart necessary to teach come from your mind and spirit. "Looking the part" is no use if they cannot teach. You will do fine. I have two friends from church that Zumba a instruct. Both average body types
