  • I would honestly rather have measurement change over scale change anytime. We can all see measurement changes, in the way our clothes fit, in how our jewelry fits, etc. and it seems easier for others to see how we've changed also (even if they don't know what the changes are). Your weight will catch up so congrats on the…
  • I'm 55 -- would love having another friend who will help me as I help them! Welcome to MFP....wishing you much success.
  • I followed the traditional Atkins diet a few years ago and lost 35 pounds My A1C went down as well as my daily blood glucose readings. I believe however you want to loose your weight is your decision and it shouldn't be anyone else's place to tell you you are doing things right. Good luck to you!! Carole

  • Aparagus Parmesan Yield: 4 servings, each with 3 grams of carbohydrates and 1 gram of fiber, for a total of 2 grams of usable carbs and 6 grams of protein. A great side dish with a simple chicken breast. 1 pound (455 g) asparagus 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic or 1 clove garlic, crushed 1/4 cup (60 ml) olive oil Salt and…
  • In the beginning everything is hard -- you will get the hang of it, there are a lot of things you can use in place of carbs, spaghetti squash can be used in place of spaghetti, cauliflower can be used for potatoes, you'll figure it out! good luck Carole
  • keep the prep in a bowl of ice to keep it cold -- it's easier to drink when it's really cold. It won't taste like champagne but it's easier to get down when it's really cold!! popscicles are good - just not red ones....nothing red during the prep. I drank chicken or beef broth as something hot to help me feel full.
  • Yes there is a diabetes support group here - lots of great people who are so helpful. Hope to see you there: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/1789-type-2-diabetes-support-group
  • I grew up eating avocado sandwiches -- 1 slice of bread with a little butter, thin slices of avocado with salt and pepper - open face. I also love them in salads and in guacamole. I could sit and eat a half avocado out of it's shell with no problem - I love them!!
  • Hi - I take 10 mg of Glyburide each morning along with 1000 mg of Metformin. I haven't had any bad side effects from it but my blood sugars are really running lower than they were before I started taking it. Don't be afraif to eat, that is the worst thing you can do. Start tonight and figure out what you are going to eat…
  • you look wonderful and donating your clothing to the church is a wonderful thing to do. I am like you, I prefer dark colors but that's because I've worn them for so long. Last week I got a bright pink t-shirt to wear when I need a little pick-me-up. I'm hoping that this 1 pink shirt will bring more and more color into my…
  • I'm 55 and will be 56 in a few months. My mother (85) lives with us and I'm her caregiver. My husband is a heart patient so he is also someone I take care of. I have Type 2 diabetes plus a few other ailments. No offense to anyone but people under 50 don't have the same trouble loosing weight that I do and while I'm…
  • I don't "cheat" anything I eat I track - if I want to eat something I do as long as I can fit it into my calories for the day.
  • My husband has them also - when he went in to have triple bypass 8 years ago they couldn't take the vein they needed from his right leg because he had boils on that leg so they took a vein from the left leg. He didn't have them for awhile but is back to getting them. Our Internist just put him on antibiotics to see if it…
  • I have 2 ex-husbands - will give them to a good home or a not so good home -- doesn't matter to me! My husband doesn't drive so I told him after we were married I'd know if he had an affair, I'd have to drive him to and from his dates. If he took her out for dinner I'd sit at a different table and send him the bill, if he…

  • A couple people have already said YouTube -- there are plenty of exercises for every fitness level. Also to start you can use a couple of cans of soup or veggies or full soda or water bottles to use to begin strength training. You can stand against your counter in the kitchen and do leg lifts and/or squats. Just walking…

  • Hi Jeff -- welcome! I was diagnosed Type 2 about 4 years ago and have been working to keep everything in control since. I got off track around Thanksgiving last year and stayed off course until January ... my last A1c was back up over 8 (from 6) so after a nice "talk" (tongue lashing) from my Endocrinologist I'm back on…

  • CONGRATULATIONS!!! This is such great news for you. As a 2 time survivor I understand how it feels to be finished and starting the rest of your life. Have a great weekend and enjoy your life!! : )
  • I've never been a vain person so that's not the reason I want to get into shape. I have several medical problems that all point to my being overweight. I am a caregiver for my mother and husband so people depend upon me and being this overweight and out of shape I'm not doing myself or them any good. To be able to take…
  • Kathie - I hope you get the meds you need and are feeling much better soon. I hate bronchitis - it's one of the worst illnesses to have this time of year. Take care of yourself, your blood sugars will level out once your meds kick in. Just make sure to eat something good and drink plenty of hot tea and water .... that's…
  • And I personally know that Sheila is a great friend! Thank you for being my friend!!
  • Hi Paige -- I'm here posting everyday. I cried also when I ready about your miscarriage, when I was 19 I gave a baby up for adoption (after his daddy literally ran out the door after I told him I was pregnant - he also tried to tell me he was gay and that's why he couldn't be the father - never understood that one!). When…
  • call your doctors office and tell them what is happening -- don't change the dosage without his/her permission. Everyone has a different reaction to medication but don't do it yourself, talk to your doctor first - then go by what his/her suggestion is.
