Colonoscopy

Well, I am a type 2 diabetic and am having a colonoscopy in two days.

Have found some good advice (for example: get some baby wipes, drink Gatorade or ginger ale for my clear liquid during the prep).

Anyone here have any other recommendations?

Thank you in advance.

    Hey there arthurrichard,

Congrats on being proactive and getting screened. It's been 3 years since my last screening, you may feel really apprehensive and nervous, as I was for my first screening as a T2 diabetic.

I was prescribed a pill prep, others may be prescribed a liquid prep solution. I found the baby wipes to be much more comfortable over paper to be sure. Clear water was my liquid of choice as I didn't want BG spikes associated with sugary fruit juices or soft drinks.

I didn't experience any ill effects during my prep and the procedure itself while sedated, only took about an hour to perform, with an additional hour in recovery after my screening for the sedative to wear off.

In the end It really wasn't as horrible an experience for me as I had anticipated or heard, and happy I was screened as they found and removed 7 non-cancerous polyps.

    Best of luck!

And cold! I drank mine through a straw.

I did not experience any lows during my prep. I drank water, Diet Sprite and had a few sugar-free popsicles (just steer clear of certain colors....red for sure, and i think there's another)

I believe it's red, blue and purple. You can go with orange, green and yellow.

keep the prep in a bowl of ice to keep it cold -- it's easier to drink when it's really cold. It won't taste like champagne but it's easier to get down when it's really cold!!

popscicles are good - just not red ones....nothing red during the prep. I drank chicken or beef broth as something hot to help me feel full.
