The weather was inspiring today, took the dogs for a hike and mowed the lawn. April 09 - 20,397

This looks like a great group of walkers! I'm in if you'll have me. I use a Fitbit Zip so here we are back to the beginning of April. I'm trying to log my meals more diligently so hopefully this will help keep me coming back at least daily. 01 - 16,008 02 - 17,441 03 - 18,887 04 - 17,357 05 - 20,010 06 - 19,682 07 - 21,932…

I'm always surprised by how much activity I can fit into a routine that seems full. I used to walk to the bus, I find that by leaving 10 minutes earlier, I can skip the bus and walk right to the train (that's almost 20 minutes return on 10 minutes of input from the schedule). I don't stand and wait for anything, I pace.…

I wear a fit zip tracker and it seems to over-estimate calories. What I do is put a 300 calorie entry on my food tracker each day to counter act the fact that a) I think the zip is a little over enthusiastic and b) the zip tracks every single step, I don't track every cup of coffee or breath mint.

Get up early and go in the dark. I slink down to the high school running track at 4:30 a.m. It was a case of do I want to fix the phobia or just get a run in. Just getting a run in was easier!

Research I've read on breaking addictions/habits all report that a failed attempt is better than no attempt, and all successes come from trying, anyway, anyhow, any number of times, but just trying. Hopefully you keep trying and reach the "tipping point" of success. So no unsolicited advice from me, just a "good luck".

I have used a couple of pedometers (Sportline and something else) but I love my new fitbit zip. It is smaller than the others I have used and syncs wirelessly with my phone and then to MFP. Walk more = eat more! It doesn't allow you to enter your stride length, but with the other peds I've used I was always right on…

I am on the 5th day with my Fitbit Zip and loving it. I catch myself "bumping the numbers" walking around the house while waiting for the kettle to boil, around the parking lot waiting for my ride, I find it more motivational that the regular pedometer I used previously.

I log the moment of shame in the memory bank. Do I want to feel this again, nope! Next time I want to go off the rails, I take a second to remember the nasty feeling and overwrite it with the good feeling of doing well. Takes but a second and it's fairly effective for me as long as I don't run away from it, by not logging…

The Garmin Forerunner 305 is $150 at Coscto, not cheap but not way up there like some of the other models.

I have a Garmin 305 watch/hrm that I got from Costco - I haven't tried the HRM but the GPS for outside works great. It is not recommended in the pool but there is an attachment you can get to time wheel revolutions on a bike.

Been longer than a week in coming but . . . I have a lap for the dog or the grandson to sit in. Not room for both together, but it's a delightful victory for me.

Somebody on here posted a recipe for Kale Chips stating they were guilt free replacements for potato chips. I would have to differ on that view, I found them nasty and the only relationship to "real chips" was the salt. I was contemplating licking off all the salt and throwing the "chips" out, but I did the right thing and…

So when you punch in 120 minutes walking for example, does it give you the ncb or the tcb? The number of calories burned seems awfully high and if it is in fact the tcb, are we not double counting by adding those calories as available?

01/04/11 - 15069 steps. Relatively happy with that and it did not snow overnight so I've got no excuses for today either. I was experiencing some heel pain yesterday, I can't believe how relieved I was to find out it was just cracked dry skin (ick). Usually heel pain for me means new runners are in order - not this time!…

Well yesterday 01/02/11 I was a bit of a slug with 6334 steps on the day. Today 01/03/11 was much better with 18112. A trip to Costco and a good two hours out with the mutts. Only parts of the paths were a bit frozen, the fields still had soft snow on them, a great photo op if I'd brought the camera.

I'm back! I allowed myself a bit of a vacation from accountability over the Christmas break. Didn't wear the pedometer, didn't get on the scales, very loosely kept track of my food intake, generally was irresponsible. Back at it this morning with a 4 lb gain to show for my efforts, but that was pretty much expected.…

12/19 14195 steps, halved the number of dogs I took hiking but went the same distance. Not so good for the dogs I left home, but, hey, they aren't overweight.

I do believe an all time low - 12/18 -4200 steps. A plethora of excuses, none of them valid. I will do better tomorrow, it sucks not being able to add exercise to your daily diary.
-
Thanks for the well wishes. I am on the mend. I will post my daily total now because I'm packing it in to sit on my butt and watch tv. 12/17 - 15037 steps total. It was really far too nice a day not to go for a walk, so the mutts and I went down to the park and chalked up 8000 steps.
-
12/16- 10306 steps, came home from work and shivered on the couch, I have a cold, don't think its fatal but it entitled me to skip out on walking dogs last night.
-
12/15 - 13150 - Decorated the house for Christmas and grocery shopped so I didn't get out to hike the trails, resulting in a bit of a blah day for steps. The world did not come to an end because I didn't take the mutts for a run AND I had McDonalds for lunch.
-
12/14 - 15845 steps on the day. Happiness is realizing I didn't wear it this morning when walking dogs (for 2300 steps - it's the same route every workday morning) so I can legitimately add that to the daily total, and I did.
-
12/13 - 17038 steps - busy day at work and a walk at lunch time all adds up.
-
I walk everywhere, so I find it fairly easy to get to 10,000 steps every day. My personal best is close to 23000, that was walking the dogs, walking to/from the pool and mowing the lawn all in the same day. The biggest setback for me is the time of year - it's dark so much of the day it's just not very inspiring. I find…
-
12/11 - 15772 steps. Feels like a million! Lots of house cleaning and a two hour walk with the dogs.
-
12/10 - 13041 steps. That's a bit more normal for regular day.
-
12/9 - 13735 steps. There wouldn't have been so many if I hadn't had to clean up after BAD DOGS when I got home. A little vacuuming, a little carpet cleaning, a little more frog marching bad dogs on a walk - it all adds steps. What sort of dog spreads Wasabi powder on the carpet and proceeds to lick it up!!??
-
Just hit 20734 steps. I was languishing at 19750 and gave a little push doing laundry and putting dog food in the downstairs freezer in separate trips to get over 20000. That's a good day for me, I generally get 11-13000.
