Better late than never...doesn't change the leader board though. Date Strava Link Distance(km) 12/2 http://www.strava.com/activities/98263512 / 98356793 - 36.2 12/3 http://www.strava.com/activities/98435783 / 98526202 - 25.6 12/4 http://www.strava.com/activities/98608048 / 98689485 - 20.0 12/5…

I thought that by eating healthier our bills would go up: not quite. Once we got our methods figured, I figure we're spending less on food than ever (approx $200/two week cycle between groceries and eating out). Shop the sales - we make a game out of how much we can save, then plan meals around what you end up with.…

You might have to do some math...figure your axle to crown (or in this case bridge) distance and that would give you a rough estimate how big you could fit, then start calculating wheel and tire size. The problem in my mind with the 29+ is the lack of manufacturers of the size at this point...I know for sure that Surly is…

1. Ride bike. 2. Drink beer. 3. Have fun. 4. Repeat frequently. No solid goals this year, trying something different, a bit more nebulous. I've been reading a lot of adventure cycling blogs/e-zones and feel like I've been bit with the need to get out on the open road and explore. And now I have some ideas how to make that…

Not this year for me. I stopped having fun mid-way through leTour, not going to tempt fate again this year. The one day races however are another item altogether.

You forgot: 20/4 Amstel Gold! Hoping I won't get snowed on during this years Fleche Wallone (I did last year!) I loved these last year, going to do it again. Besides, we need a DFL person, right?

Thunderball by Ian Fleming Found a stack of James Bond paperbacks for sale at the local library for $.25/each including many of the classics, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Live and Let Die, so how could I pass it up? Before that I burned through all but 1 of the Honor Harrington series, I think 11 of them. Starting…

If pressed, these would be considered "goals": 1. Try bike-packing/touring at least once with an overnighter. 2. Get MTB into rideable shape and induldge in more dirt miles. 3. Ride a centruy. It was on the list this year and won't get there by the end so try again. 4. Enter at least 2 promoted events. Really would love to…

Glad to hear you're OK! For the next time: http://bikeportland.org/2006/01/12/what-to-do-if-youve-been-hit-830 Sure, it's from Portland, OR and has local info but the bare outline is a great resource if it happens again. Here's why: about 7 years ago I was hit while riding my bike. Driver was not paying attention and…

Most big brands have a penchant for lawsuits as they (and the courts) have such a low opinion of the average public's ability to distinguish between items of same/similar names. How many in the cycling field would think that Cafe Roubaix wheels equates the Specialized Roubaix bicycle? Many wouldn't but enough would…

That's what I figured. Thanks!

Nice - something I might do well at. How about extra points for true rule #9 days? So when I stretch the commute for fun (see 95% of my weekday rides) does that count? Not like I'm stretching them to 55km loop hour plus rides or anything though, just an extra mile or two at each end. Just curious.

Well done sir. Well done indeed!

Um....no. I'll be lucky to break 500km the whole month, much less the last week. Plus I'm not trendy, single or overpaid so I don't even qualify to look at Rapha stuff. :-)

Not about bikes, but perfect for MTBing. Mountain Song - Jane's Addiction "Coming down the mountain....!" I'll second the Atmosphere song, "cause somethings tellin' me to ride that ten-speed..."

Have a pair of Walmart special Neoprene gloves and wore them into the teens last year. Only issue I have with them is the suck...they stay on tight when you sweat in them. Plus getting them to dry out is a task unless you roll them inside out (which is a task on it's own!) Wore them in clear and snowy weather last year and…

Patch the tubes and keep them for back-up. If you're consistently getting falts, checkthe inside of the tires for small pieces of debris that could be causing the recurrent flats...unless you're riding through glass continually the flats shouldn't be so frequent. I had a similar problem with flats and after careful…

The first article had me interest...until I realized they were F.O.S. and only wanted us to be good little cyclist and never ride out of turn. The BikeSnob article got me laughing and thinking and fired up my rebellious streak. But it doesn't matter. The reality is this: if you ride a bike (for whatever reason) in this…

Maybe this will push me to go longer and get those 50km rides in. Let's do this.

I've used Under Armor Cold Gear tights over bike shorts w/chamois with cargo shorts or similar over that for the last 3 years and except for the really cold days (0-15F) I've been OK, then I just add/change the top outer layer to like 3/4 shorts or rain pants and I'm OK. Feet-wise, I'm running flats so it's 2 layers of…

I have one of the Cree LED knock-offs from Amazon and have yet to be disappointed. Bright, nice field of light and cheap. I'm sure it will die on me one day but it's been a good investment. I rode single track with it last week and had no issues seeing, even at speed. Has a high/low/strobe settings where unless it's really…

I've commuted in pretty much all sorts of weather and have always changed at work due to that, plus I find it far more comfortable which is the key. Like another poster mentions, taling clothes for the week on Monday is a great idea if you have a place to store them, so you can cool off and chaneg when you arrive riding in…

I got to demo a Trek Remedy 27.5 and ended up riding it on some of the same trails I've ridden before so have some comparison. Caveat, my main ride is a 29er, rigid, hybrid style that I abuse off road so there is some obvious, glaring differences. That said... 1. Size. I feel on occasion that I'm riding way up on the 29er.…

Played AD&D (1st & 2nd Ed.) frequently in Jr High/High School and a little bit in early college. Dabbled with other RPS (Robotech, GURPS, Car Wars to name a few) even so far to create our own derivative rules/settings that fit my playing group. But between lack of folks to play with and waning interest (waxing interest in…

Long days at work lead to dark rides to and from. Here's from one last week:

For me it really depends... Short punchy hills I stand and grind them out until I count. Longer hills, sit and spin. It took me awhile to find my, "happy place" while climbing (gearing, RPM, breathing) and when I can hit it, the climbs melt away, but I'm nowhere near being able to harness that every time I climb. The…

Nice! I have the same bike, albeit 2 years older. I call mine, "the Beast". Distance will improve with time for sure!
