  • Had a couple of commutes like that last winter. Shut off the lights and roll by the light of the moon. Think at the next full moon I'll put out feelers locally for a moonlit mystery tour...would be a lot of fun.
  • I love riding in the dark. It's even better riding in the light falling snow in the dark, like a cocoon of bikey goodness. In.
  • Only 1 I am not embarrased to speak of. Marin Muir Woods 29r - commuter, gravel, dirt, trail(sort of), road and anything I find to ride bike. There is a BSO (bike shaped object) sitting in my shed that is used when I don't care if it gets stolen (kind of like a bar bike). And a early 90's Specialized Rock Hopper in pieces…
  • There's a group of us over at the Bicyling forum; http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/361-bicycling-road-and-mountain I'm sure one of them could answer this well.
  • *resurrection* It's not toally dead yet... Just got a set of Clement X'plor MSO 700x40 tires for the bike (and promptly put a piece of metal into the rear but that's anouther story) with some tubes, sealeant and Ironclad Mach 5 gloves. Really looking forward to putting the tires through the paces on some local gravel and…
  • Strong work! Looks like I turned over 4K (km) sometime last week. Was hoping to hit 4K (miles) by the end of the year but that looks marginal. We shall see.
  • Lights are a necessity, even when the days aren't short and, it's that extra little bit of "HEY!!!!!" that can get a driver's attention to see you. I run a rear blinky and front flasher year round and use it fairly frequently, just as a visual aid for the drivers to see me. In the darker months I run a very bright…
  • Better late than never: http://tomridesabike.wordpress.com There's not much there, yet. Planning on documenting my winter commutes this year. Should be fun.
  • Road cycling: I'm on the road everyday commuting, still try to ride at leat 1 weekend a month in the winter, it's not that bad. Gear: layers, synthetics close to skin, wool Training: get out and ride Trainers/rollers: I'm not that much of masochist. I figure to get enough cross-training shoveling snow. I commuted all last…
  • Would be kind of cool to see, think my main work route (up the highway) would be radioactive red at this point. Still, not shelling out $$$ for Premium, just don't think it would be worth it to me.
  • It's OK, you can come and hang out with us Groundlings...it's more fun than being up in the rareified air of the podium. Plus we have beer. Oh yeah, I'm going to try this as well, won't be pretty but I found a spot and someone has to be last, right?
  • A quick snap from Friday's afternoon ramble. It did storm up later that evening, plenty of thunder and lightning with shorts bursts of intense rain. Feel that it is wetter here than the NW (at the moment!).
  • ^^^This. I give out commute kudos especially for those dealing with urban/suburban commutes...fighting traffic is a well-known battle and deserves a pat on the back to play with the steel beasts as a daily occurrence.
  • Plain old bandana usually does the trick just fine. Plus I look like a pirate when I'm no longer wearing the helmet.
  • I'm still utterly addicted to Borderlands 2 on the Xbox, it's kind of an affliction. Between work and life I have little time to play though.
  • Odds are good it is the wheel, not the tire that is off. Wheels get out of true (they get a wobble) when your spoke tensions get all wonky, or you have a broken spoke. Luckily it's a quick fix at the LBS.
  • I hardly shave my face, much less my legs.
  • Took a detour on my way to meet the family about two weeks ago and stumbled on some trails. Ended up paying the price though with 3 broken spokes. Skinny wheelset + rocky trails = misery at the bike shop.
  • Yes. All of them. Love me a good single malt (when I have the $$$) but I can sip on Jameson regularly.
  • ^^^this. And plenty of TI TS (time in the saddle).
  • 1. Get out and ride no matter the weather. It's not always going to be sunshine and unicorns, learn to ride in and not hate riding in poor weather. Riding in inclement weather like heat, humidiity, cold, rain, hail, snow, ice and wind all have different effects on you and your performance. Living in Oregon riding in the…
  • Yeah, way off the chart. Might get worse as I have to take the bike to the shop for some stuff I can't do myself and he's running about a week's worth of backlog. When you're the only shop for >100 miles things take awhile. Hoping it's something I've over-looked and will be an easy fix. Otherwise, well, I'll be walking to…
  • In, 3 rides done already...'tis the beauty of commuting by bike, it's like "free" miles, just not a ton of them!
  • I have one but it is pseudonomous and focused mainly around being a nurse with the occasional deviation into cycling/politics/beer/politics/navel gazing. Doing one focused on cycling and life is on the list but after spending all day in front of a computer it's hard to want to sit in front of the screen when I get home.…
  • No Vuelta for me but y'all have fun out there! Taking a different cycling tack this August, call it a "mental shifting of perspective" if you will.
  • Had a dog chase and take a nip out of me earlier this year but never ran into my wheel. Glad you're ok though! And as for helmets? I work as a nurse and have seen plenty of traumatic brain injuries: not the path I would want to take, so anything I can do to mitigate that risk I do.
  • Amen! TBY is the MAN for getting this together...massive kudos to you!:drinker:

  • Tend not to do the comic/comedian-type podcasts, haven't gotten into any that really pique my interest. I do some medical, cycling and soccer podcasts though to follow my other intetrests plus some of the TWIT.tv shows. For a take on current world events and mainstream media critiism though I listen to "the best podcast in…
