  • Make sure you are loading correctly through the feet. Place the most force through the HEEL of the foot while doing squats, lunges, or even leg press if you have access to one. Try not to put pressure through the ball of the foot. Doing so causes unnecessary tension in the knee joint.
  • Excellent information. Burn off the sugars first, then the body is more inclined to metabolized fat for fuel.
  • I'm aware that there are naturally occurring trans fats. The artificial ones that are damaging to your health can also be rounded down to zero if they are below half a gram per serving. If you see "Partially hydrogenated ____ oil" in an ingredient list, it has trans fat in it.
  • haha, I agree. This is stupid. I'm not an "all or nothing" type of person. I eat sensibly, not super strict. I eat cleanly enough that if I want to have some "junk food", I can eat it. On that note, I'm not claiming to know everything, because obviously I don't. No one does. No two people should consume the same diet…
  • Snickers Bar: "Milk chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, chocolate, lactose, skim milk, milkfat, soy lecithin, artifiical flavor), peanuts, corn syrup, sugar, skim milk, butter, milkfat, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, lactose, salt, egg whites, artificial flavor." So, corn syrup and trans fat. Yup, healthy... Whole Milk:…
  • http://bmb.oxfordjournals.org/content/55/3/683.full.pdf The next time I get a group of individuals that are willing to do a double blind study, I'll let you know asap. Being concerned only with macros and calories and not with vitamin and mineral content? Really? You honestly think there would be no difference in body…
  • Were you referencing this? http://www.michaelphelps.net/michael-phelps-diet/ Aw, that's cute. Know what's funny. I eat 10-12 whole eggs a day on average. Why can I do this? Because of the way I exercise. Michael Phelps swims miles everyday. The average person, does not. Same goes for other Olympic Athletes. Aside from the…
  • The origin of the post deals with sugar. Then HFCS vs Sugars, then Natural VS Processed. Now you're getting into the details of organic vs conventional... As I said before, Organic VS conventional doesn't bother me. Natural VS Processed is what bothers me. There are things that are good for you, and things that aren't. Can…
  • Now who's "Shifting the goalposts"? Good job, I like what you did there.
  • Yeah, the whole "obesity epidemic" thing we've got going on over here definitely proves that the USA is doing things the right way. Are there potential upsides to GMO crops? Yes, definitely. Are there potential health risks involved with these crops? Yes, definitely. Things evolve. You keep taking antibiotics to combat…
  • So you're ok with your produce being doused with insecticides and pesticides? Good for you. The abundant use of antibiotics does pose a real potential issue, but whatever, we'll cross that bridge when we get there, right? My point is not solely rooted in Organic VS. Conventional. Natural VS Processed...There is no contest.…
  • It's one thing to cross strains of a plant to form a hybrid, it's another to change the way crops generate new seeds - adding "terminator genes" so the crop isn't able to produce new seeds after one harvest, and doesn't grow again the following harvest (Unless farmers pay for it to be "reactivated"). Among other traits,…
  • I wouldn't consider it "shifting the goalposts". I'm just thinking in a broader, more health conscious manner than some others here... Call it whatever you want, at the root all the information being given out here, lies reality. Don't like the fact that HFCS sweetened foods aren't good for you? To bad, that's reality. Why…
  • My reading comprehension is just fine, thanks. You didn't say anything about it NOT being ok either. You posted a link, nothing more. Who has the comprehension issues? As far as quantities of consumption for the crappy foods you seem to love, I don't have exact amounts, but again - why don't you list a bunch of foods that…
  • And to that I say, "no duh". Prolonged consumption over a long period of time poses a greater risk than eating crappy food once or twice a week... It's people that consume it regularly, and in large quantities that reap the consequences. That's common sense.
  • You posted a link to a "documentary" on consuming McDonalds for 30 days straight... Do I have to spell it out for you?
  • The difference between the information you're providing vs the information I'm providing comes down to responsibility. It's down right irresponsible to try and say the average person can consume McDonalds with little or no consequence. That's absurd. The same goes for the consumption of HFCS. Give me a bunch of foods that…
  • You honestly think that's a viable resource for proving your point? Do we know if that guy is taking steroids, what his exercise routine was like? You can eat just about anything if you're on steroids, and your body will soak it up like a sponge. Would you say that regular beef is the same as grass fed organic free range…
  • So it's just calories in calories out? It has NOTHING to do with the quality or source of the food you put into your body? By that definition I could be getting all of my calories from McDonalds instead of varied natural sources for my macros... Also, you have a "fruit limit" for the day, and you would reach for a Snickers…
  • So, aside from HFCS being metabolized the same as natural sugars, there's no true drawback to consuming it? I can not think of many foods of any true nutritonal value that have HFCS contained within them. Sugar is sugar, yes. I don't see any benefit from The consumption of HFCS aside from the fact that it's usually…
  • I don't care if they're metabolized the same, the effects are different. There's more to it than how these sugars are metabolized. They effect the brain and body differently. Can you get fat eating to many fruits? Absolutely. Consuming un-natural sources of sugar have a more devastating effect on body chemistry. There's a…
  • So you're advocating man made sources of sugar over natural sources that humans have been consuming for thousands and thousands of years? Yeah, I see no holes in that logic what so ever... The more humans mess with the origins of a food, the more you should avoid it. Case in point, hydrogenated oils/trans fats. Or are…
  • Sure about that? Also, I said HFCS reacts differently in the body. I said nothing about it being metabolized. Saying HFCS and real sugar are the same is like saying organic veggies and GMO veggies are the same. They effect the body differently. They effect the brain differently. Saying that consuming High Fructose Corn…
  • You're absolutely right. Also, natural sugars react differently in the body than un-natural sources (HFCS - High Fructose Corn Syrup). Moderation can be skewed by people's perception. You'd be amazed at the sugar content in certain foods. Also, when it comes to milk, whole milk is the better choice because skim is…
  • You want to avoid excess sugar whenever possible. It doesn't matter if it's from fruit, sugar is sugar. Excess amounts of sugar are converted to LDL (Low density lipo-protein, aka - bad cholesterol) in the liver. This drives up cholesterol and attributes to heart disease among many other diseases/ health conditions. You…
  • Trees, stones, bodyweight exercises. There are always options available no matter where you are. Just pick up something heavy! Bodyweight exercises can be challenging enough.
  • Sweat is just an indication that your body is trying to cool itself down. By your definition, you could sit in a sauna and "burn calories". You're always burning calories, that's what your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is. Working out in extreme temperatures is not healthy, and should be avoided. The "weight" you lose is just…
  • What's wrong with going on an elliptical for 30 minutes? Besides the fact that it's likely no where near intense enough to actually impart change and adaptation in the body; it's often used by people who don't truly grasp the concept of exercise. You worked out for 4 hours the other day? Do you realize what happens to the…
  • Whatever you do, make sure you are stretching frequently and often. People don't realize it, but a great deal of pain and discomfort can be avoided by stretching.
  • You're most likely already in "starvation mode" from the sounds of it. Exercise should be making you hungry. That is of course if you're truly exercising and not just hopping on an elliptical for 30 minutes. You may need to bump up the calories and increase the intensity of your workouts.
