  • Started snacking a lot towards the end of the week. I want to stay motivated. • I agree with everything everyone said. Damn, I hate exercise. BUT, I just got back from Costa Rica where we had to walk up and down lots of hills every day and I actually feel really good. The thing is: we were GOING somewhere. We weren't just taking a 45 min. walk before work on the same road in front of my house. People…
  • Me too. I'm trying a few things. Because my husband wants to have chips, ice cream, etc. around, I'm trying to buy kinds I don't like. Also, when I make pasta, I'm making a very veggie-enriched sauce and I put a small amount of pasta and a TON of sauce on top to fill me up. Salad helps too. When I'm hungry, a cup of coffee…
  • I agree with everything you said! I had fallen to a very comfortable 115 pounds, where I'm happy to live my life (61 years old, 4' 11") and have added 3 1/2 pounds and my jeans are damned uncomfortable. One pair I can't even get into. I have a Costa Rican vacation coming (bathing suit) and my stepdaughter's wedding in a…
  • Wow, look how much you already lost! Really impressive.
  • Yes, let's get back on track! You can do it, I can do it. I'm going to log my food again and this time I'm not stopping at noon! And I just said "yes" when my husband asked if I want to take a walk. Good luck, I really mean it.
  • Hi, everybody. Happy New Year. I am coming back on MFP after at least 7 months off and my tummy shows that I've missed it. I have real motivation now in that my back is getting bad and I also have a special trip to Costa Rica (bathing suit) in March. I'm 61, so I don't look the way I did in decades past, but I have hope!…
  • You've sure got tons of responses! I'm 4 feet 11 and I'm 116.8. I think my body really really wants to be no lower than 115 and I've rarely gotten below that for more than a few months. At my very small frame, the extra 1.8 pounds I have now is all in my belly and it's pretty damned obvious. I am not an exerciser but if I…
  • Hi! I am sending you good wishes in your journey. I too am in my 60s and believe me, it's a LOT harder to lose weight and more than that to keep one's belly and butt from expanding a lot. I'm working on it and MFP has been a big help in the past year. If only because the Diary feature gives me a reality check in terms of…
  • Welcome! I've had recent struggles getting back on track and I'm taking it one day at a time starting today. I'm logging everything I eat on my iPod touch and I'm hoping to not go into the red zone. Posting and reading others' posts has been so helpful to me. Good luck in your journey.
  • One more thing I wanted to say to the people who are asking to be my Friend, that's so great. Please don't be offended if I decline now, I've been so bad at keeping up with Friends' posts that I'm not doing that right now. But this forum and all the support is great.
  • I didn't expect to get such supportive responses so fast! These are very good suggestions. I hadn't ever thought of logging a day in advance. I'll have to figure out how to do that. I may write it on a slip of paper and log it all in the a.m. For the person who said I should just be honest and log everything I eat no…
  • I did not maintain during the holidays. I am trying hard to get back on track but it really is hard! Sweets and carbs are so satisfying. But I am working on it. I am logging everything even if I'm minus 165 at the end of the day. I know I can get back to where I was. My clothes were feeling so comfortable in November, now…
  • Every time I start my Diary in the a.m. it's a clean slate, a time to start again. I totally blew it for the last three weeks and today I'm starting all over. I was just hungry and had a clementine nectarine instead of a cookie. yay. I need to get back on track and I can do it. Logging food in my mind is the best way. Even…
  • Welcome to the group!
  • I am amazed by all the wonderful feedback. Thank you so, so much, everyone. I had a good day today in terms of getting back on track and I do realize that MFP is terrifically helpful to me, if only in educating me as to the nutritional value and calories of foods (eg., movie popcorn - my god!) At any rate, your support is…
  • Going over once in a while will happen. But each day is a new day to get back into the swing of it. It's a slow process, but if you keep to your goal as much as possible, you'll certainly lose weight!
  • People say it a lot and it's true - if you eat too little and are also burning loads of calories, your body will hold onto every pound it can because it thinks you are dying. The good news (it would be good news for me!) is that you can add calories and even scale down some exercise. Do the whole BMI thing and whatever…
  • This is such an inspiring, heartening post, it's exactly what I needed to read this a.m. It's such a great example of how one person can start by taking care of themselves and have a positive influence on those around them. I really commend you (and her). Thank you so much for sharing your story!
  • There are so many good suggestions already posted. My husband is overweight but not obese and has high blood pressure and triglycerides. He watches me log my food diary, seems pleased that I've lost about 9 pounds, but doesn't want to do MFP or count calories at all. I showed him how to calculate his BMI etc. and he saw…
  • Congratulations. It really does feel great, doesn't it? I've lost a few pounds and my very tight pants (all of them!) aren't tight now. I can sit down without having my fly unzip itself, and I don't need to suck in my breath to unzip to go to the bathroom. Yay. Good luck and keep going, and remember you are doing this for…
  • It's a stupid and thoughtless comment. Every day I read these posts of people who have been trying to lose weight their whole lives. It is hard, hard, hard. You joined MFP for a reason, you have your own goals and reasons, just stick to them... look what you've already accomplished. I bet you feel better than you did and…
  • To the woman who has gained about 10 or more pounds fast and is looking for inspiration, all I can say is that using MFP My Diary (journaling) is working extremely well for me. It's about awareness of what you eat, getting educated on calories (and nutrients if you use that feature), and being accountable. It's helped tons…
  • I am 4'11" and depending on the day, I hover around 113 or 114, and what a difference it makes from the 119 or 120 I was at. Seriously, I have a waist now and get back into most of my pants. At age 60, I am pretty sure realistically I'll never be 100 or 105. I think it's great that many of you are, but it's almost…
  • Thanks, I'm going to stay busy and start some projects. And stock up on fruits and veggies. Sounds good!
  • I do what someone else said. You can weigh yourself when you want to, but I find that recording it once a week is a good way to get a realistic snapshot or at any rate it's better than recording whenever the scale is smiling on you. Great about that bike ride though! Hang in there, this MFP thing is working well for me.…
  • I do think that one's own birthday cake is somewhat different. Each to his or her own, though. I'm avoiding it this lunch time, and I can actually do that. It's just not worth the calories.
