On weekdays, I'll have a Larabar in between work and my workout, because I'm usually hungry by then, and they are really simple and easy to digest, and have a lot of protein. After my workout I'll have a whey protein shake. On the weekends, I'll usually workout after breakfast, then same for after workout.

Actually, even if you are sedentary, it will depend on your age, height, weight, sex. Look up BMR calculation and that will give you an idea. Can totally relate to this. It is hard for your mind to catch up with your body. Ultimately, you have to work just as hard at losing weight and gaining strength to find peace of mind about your physical self.
