  • I hope everything went spectacularly for you iamstaceywood! Like akindofmagick said, sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk. Moving and getting enough fluids is paramount to your early success. And of course, congratulations on joining the club! Can't wait to hear more about you shrinking! :p
  • To make it through Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years without giving in to the temptation to eat all the foods people love to eat this time of year. My highest weight loss in the past was in 1999 when I dropped from 275 to 234 the day before Thanksgiving, 41lbs. I've dropped from 289 to 239 so far this time around,…
  • For me, weight loss makes me happy as I see the scale go lower & lower and my "trend line" in my report on MFP is steadily declining. Aside from that, the happiness really comes from several other things. Most importantly, I find myself less & less introverted. Where before I would literally want to hide in a corner and…
  • I really hope you get a good answer Thursday. After I had all my final approvals, I ate a few really good meals, things I knew I wouldn't be able to eat in a long while after the surgery. I'm really looking forward to Thanksgiving this year, mostly for the family getting together. I have no problem knowing I'll be eating…
  • Hello pneschich, fellow er..."Fellow" here! I had my surgery on 08/18/2016. Not sure about your insurance company or their "requirements" to approve you, but my insurance is through UMR (United Healthcare) which sucks, but wasn't as bad as what yours sounds like! I had to have a six month supervised diet, psych exam,…
  • Good luck tomorrow!
  • A few things I have noticed. I now enjoy clothes shopping. All the cool looking shirts for bands, Star Wars, etc. that never were available to me when I was in full "bubba mode" fit me just fine now! I can sleep on my right side. For several years, my right hip would hurt so bad if I laid on it for much more than about 10…
  • Lost 50lbs as of this past Saturday!
  • This past weekend, I said goodbye to all of my 3X shirts and 42" pants & shorts. I'm fitting into 2XL shirts easily now and some 1XL. I also had to pick up some new uniform shirts for work, down two sizes since I started this in August. Everyone at work now compliments me and says I'm "melting away." I'm not big on…
  • Hello and welcome! Very happy for you that you have chosen to do this!
  • You are very welcome! Good luck and get ready to enjoy life!
  • Dr. Minkin and the entire staff at MyNewSelf Bariatrics were the best! I was originally scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Scott, but he retired to do research in Columbia. Dr. Minkin comes highly recommended and from my personal experience, I would absolutely recommend him. He also performed my wife's surgery four years…
  • Welcome! Honestly, the scariest part for me was BEFORE surgery. Afterwards, I have stuck to my doctor's plan he laid out for me and have an immensely improved quality of life. I eat three meals a day, about a cup total or less each and a small snack, most often a protein bar to ensure I am getting the recommended amount of…
  • Like Nicole874 said, you won't be able to finish out your daily log because your caloric intake will (generally) fall below the threshold MFP considers healthy. Just follow your doctor's orders, concentrate on getting the correct nutrition and enjoy the journey! And of course, welcome!
  • For November, my goal is to continue on the right track and not be swayed by the lure of holiday "goodies." Aside from a piece of hard candy like a mint or butterscotch occasionally, I've avoided all other temptations. November is an important month for me as the first (and most successful weight loss) I ever had was…
  • Fantastic job ladies & gentlemen! Hope to add my "before & during" pic soon! You all are an inspiration and should be extremely proud of all your myriad accomplishments!
  • Congratulations! I hope to be as committed at 3 years like you as I am right now at two months.
  • That's the spirit! A bit over eight weeks out, just ate a nice piece of homemade meatloaf with scalloped potatoes for dinner last night with no issues! As I listed my positives above, things just continue to improve. I'm so happy to have finally done this after years of fretting and putting it off. I have GOT to update my…
  • Sainte Genevieve, MO Surgery at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis, MO with MyNewSelf Bariatrics, performed by Dr. Darrin Minkin HW: 294 SW: 289 on 08/15/16 CW: 245 Goal weight? 189 to start, then we will see how things go from there! 100lbs itself sounds insurmountable for me right now!
  • Absolutely true.
  • Two months out, my daily caloric intake is around 1200 before any exercise. Some days I am a bit hungrier and go higher. A couple of days here & there, I'm not hungry at all.
  • Fantastic job my friend! Congratulations on all your success!
  • Freakin' awesome!
  • I stayed in the hospital for one day. For the most part, I was just tired for the first two weeks. Not a lot of pain and I was able to walk around, up and down stairs and everything else. I just had a weight lifting restriction. They sent me home with pain pills, but they upset my new stomach. After two days, I stopped…
  • Mandy_1982, what you are feeling is perfectly normal. I've tried for years, telling myself I could DO THIS without any surgery. Losses of 30lbs or so always ended with me returning to my bad eating habits and gaining all of the weight back PLUS some. I was especially nervous when everything was out of the way and I was…
  • I've started my "week 7" diet. With my particular surgeon, at week 6 I was able to add salad greens, soft beans, ground beef and ground turkey. I've done good with everything in my week 6 stage and eating that George's Chilli from Culver's was like heaven! I'm definitely going to look into the Ricotta Bake and the slow…
  • It's funny how different everyone is with what they can tolerate after the surgery. I've tried a couple other brands and aside from Muscle Milk, Premier Protein is the only one I can stomach now. Cottage cheese & scrambled eggs....it was heaven when I was finally able to add those in. Though as odd as this may sound, I'm…
  • ^Truth. The most calories I have eaten in a single day was 1250, but it was all from healthy, nutrient & protein rich foods. Typically, 800-1000 is what I average in a day.
  • Congratulations! You look fantastic! I understand the stigma that surrounds weight loss surgery as I too have recently undergone a sleevectomy procedure in August. Having been there with my wife when she had her surgery four years ago, it isn't a miracle or an easy way out. It takes a lifelong dedication. It's exercise.…
  • 1. Continue to log my food & exercise 2. Increase my walking. Definitely not getting enough right now! 3. Increase my resistance & kettlebell exercises. 4. Continue the "daily struggle" to get enough protein. Averaging 75-79 a day is hard since protein drinks are disgusting and protein bars aren't much better!
