Im a guy so I don't know what the women want but for me, I wanted people to be hard on me. If i messed up, I wanted to know about it. Not give me false praise even though they knew i screwed myself over. If they are just starting, its fine to cheer them on for a while. but if they say they are serious about it and want to…

heat waves suck.

Easy to remember guidelines. 1. If it tastes good spit it out. 2. If humans made it, don't eat it. Both of my semi-paleo guidelines have kept me going just fine. You get all the goods with none of the excess crap that our food is pumped with now adays.

American's are fat for a whole list of reasons. Not having "no mayo" in our vocabulary is one of the more tame ones. Its really pretty sad. After losing 112lbs i just cant help but see that people are a lot lazier in the US.

There are "studies" out there that "prove" both sides. Don't listen to every "study" you see. If you read a study, check for who is funding it. If you notice that a corn grower's association is doing a study on whether or not HFCS if good or bad, 99% of the time you can bet they will say its good. They wont bash their own…

Its an oldie but one that I started my strength training with. Look up the Spartacus blood and sand routine. You just need dumbbells you are comfortable using. They don't need to be more than 20. I started with 10s. Otherwise, there are body weight workouts like pushups for upper body strength. If you do the blood and sand…

wish i could join in but $200 for some dvds, bands, and pull-up bar is the thing thats got me a little hesitant to drop the money. for those who have done it before or are currently doing it, is it worth putting down that money? I seriously want to know since I am on the fence.

sure, but we don't spend or care to spend large sums money on stuff that just cover our feet.

I cut cold turkey to beat my sugar addiction. Now, most things with sugar (refined / processed) in it i cannot stand.

I love cycling! I do it every day. Except this past week which the heat index is around 106. I just hit the gym bikes until it gets back into the 90s. I live a mile off of a 12.5mile bike path and I ride the length round trip almost daily when its not an oven outside. 27miles house to house.

There are so many things wrong with that study, its laughable.

At the gym that I go to, everyone uses everything. There are no real sides. For those of you that are hesitant to go lift because you don't know what to do, ask. At least at the gym that I go to, most people would be more than happy to help you out or answer questions.

Sugar. Lots and lots of sugar. As they reduce the fat (fats give it some sweetness) they up the carbs (mainly the sugar). Keeps the sweetness but our bodies tend to treat the fructose that they pack in "fat-free" foods more as a poison.

pic quality on the right is pretty bad.

Im still getting some knowledge on the BMR and TDEE stuff myself. If anyone could answer a question, that would be awesome. BMR: Is 1748 (according to MFP) TDEE: 2898 (according to the link posted in this thread) So i should be eating somewhere between 1748-2898 calories? Then why did mfp put me on a 1410 calorie diet?…

If you were really overweight like I was, the fat and weight will melt off for the first few months. You will hit a point where you plateau and the scale wont budge. If you were at a healthy-ish weight when you started, see a doc.

If strawberries were bad for you, I would be dead. People always joke that if i went to a "pick your own strawberries" place, they would have to weigh me going in and coming out.

I get this all the time. I used to be a "healthy" 282lbs. I am 170 now and want to drop a few final lbs and everyone is telling my I have an eating disorder, need to eat more, and throwing food at me in general. One of my good friends finally admitted he was acting that way because he was jealous of my progress. I offered…

It is awesome that your kids have an interest in this! Wish my parents would have done more for me than feed me sugary foods when the doc told them i needed to gain weight. Its good to hear that they have an interest in staying healthy.

If you aren't willing to sweat during a workout you shouldn't be working out. On my weight lifting days, I break a sweat. On my cardio days, My shirt looks like I went swimming with it on.

Sums it up pretty well.

Agreed. I pretty much go a little more than double what the "recommended" here is on MFP. Carbs though, I can never hit. I generally stay around 100. 250 seems excessive.
