  • Okay... just found out why. http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2012/05/certain-almonds-are-highly-poisonous/ Only bitter almonds are highly poisonous. The other kind are fine.
  • Having picked almonds off the almond trees in my husband's family farm in Sicily in copious amounts and peeled them and eaten them right there in the field, I can say with quite a bit of confidence that if this is true, then it must take a heck of a lot of almonds to poison you, as I am still alive enough to type this. ;)
  • Good on you for getting to the root problem! It took me years of counselling with a really terrific addictions counsellor to really dig down and clear away the wreckage of my past. It wasn't until then that I was really ready for the surgery. Since having the surgery, I have lost 57 lbs and since my peak weight I have lost…
  • I struggled with food addiction / eating disorders for years. I have been working with an excellent addictions counsellor for a long time and it has made all the difference to me. I strongly recommend finding yourself a good addictions counsellor.
  • Another milestone, I weighed myself this morning and I am at 164. That makes my BMI 25.7. I am now officially in a normal - not overweight - weight range. I am 14 pounds away from goal weight. Wow.
  • Good luck! Just follow your doctor and dietician's instructions and you will be fine!
  • I totally agree with this - you don't want any complications. It seems like you are on the post op diet forever, but when you come out the other side you forget what it was even like. It's worth being strict about it.
  • I had nothing but Glucerna and Diabetic Boost for a month before my surgery and nothing else. I hated it. About halfway through, my consumption of these dropped because I just could drink any more of them. But this too passed and now I don't even think about it. Mind you, you could not get me to drink another Glucerna or…
  • I'm really open about having had the surgery. I have been working with these people for 25 years and it just didn't seem right to be hiding such an important part of my life. Also, for me talking about this openly is all part of me learning not to be ashamed of anything about myself. Sometimes I get a little tired of…
  • This is something that I posted recently on another website. It is not directed at you, Ana, but are my thoughts on WLS in general. My general thoughts on the topic: I had a Sleeve done on November 13th and I have lost 47 lbs since then however, since the first day I walked into my doctor's office to discuss WLS, I have…

  • And I forgot to say that since I had my first appointment with the doctor to discuss weight loss surgery 5 1/2 years ago, I have now lost 101 lbs.
  • New update: According to the World Health Organization's BMI charts, I am now, at 172 lbs, only marginally overweight!!!!                 Only 22 lbs to my goal weight!!!
  • Something else that is important is to have consistency from day to day in terms of calories and protein. Also, when I added a little rice into my diet, it slowed the weight loss way down, so on the advice of the bariatric dietician, I cut rice out entirely again. Protein is what I consume first and foremost, followed by…
  • So, one week ago I visited my dietician and talked to her about the month long plateau I had been on. I had been struggling eating the 70+ gms of protein that I had been told to eat. Eight weeks post op I had added a small amount of rice back into my diet. She told me no more rice and that I MUST eat at least 70gms of…
  • I have finally broken my 3 week stall! I got on the scale this morning and was 187. Whew! Still going to visit the dietician to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong but what a relief.
  • My bariatric dietician told me that I would avoid hair loss if I ate enough protein - 75 mg a day! It's a lot of protein for a tiny stomach but I get as close as I can. So far so good - no hair loss.
  • We are all awesome! :)
  • Oh thank God! I was sleeved on November 13th and twice now I have had a weight gain. I have been religiously careful about my food and I exercise at least three times a week, including a spin class. Two weeks ago I had dropped to 188. Then I bounced up to 192, down to 190, down to 189, up to 189.5. I was pulling out my…
  • Absolutely no problems here (except constipation & hemorrhoids) but one woman in my town ended up with peritonitis and was in ICU for a month. However, she is the only person I know of who has had complications.
  • I'm still hovering just under 30 but I have joined a spin class, an aquafit class and my husband and I have started hiking so I'm expecting more loss soon. We have set a goal to walk the Camino de Santiago - the route from Portugal into Spain, in 2019 so I have to get my hiking boots broken in!
  • Just sent you a friend request!
  • Did she say she wanted friends on MFP?
  • Thank you! Who woulda thunk that we would be celebrating being overweight, lol!
  • Feel free to friend me! I was sleeved on Nov. 13th and I'm happy to support you in any way I can.
  • I was sleeved Nov. 13/13. Just 5 1/2 weeks out and I am doing well. The first week was hard - pain and exhausted all the time - but that has resolved itself and I am so glad that I did the surgery. All the best to you, and feel free to add me too.
  • Pansexual, cisgendered woman married to a straight man. I am happy that labels are dropping away but I was in the closet for sooooo long that I kind of like using labels now.
  • Welcome and good luck! I am three weeks post op as of tomorrow. The first week was rough, but that is to be expected after most surgeries, but it has been smooth sailing since. I just weighted myself this morning and I am down 19 lbs in 3 weeks. Food is going well, even though I am dying to chew something. My advice is to…
  • This is what I have been given by the Bariatric Dietician for my area. I am 2 weeks post op and just starting stage 3 of the bariatric diet. This is called the "Pureed Diet: Milk and alternatives: -Skim or 1% milk or Lactaid -low fat or unsweetened soy beverage -smooth plain or vanilla fat free low sugar yogurt -fat free…
  • I am 2 weeks post op. I am taking 500 mg of chewable calcium and a chewable multivitamin. I also take 1250 iu of vitamin D and a B12. I start my morning off with Prevacid.
  • I am exactly one week out of surgery (today). In the 2 weeks before my surgery, when I started telling some people what I was going to be doing, I had someone almost every day say: 1. Why are you doing this? 2. What? Do you want to be a toothpick? (hard to be a toothpick when my top weight was 273) 3. Why don't you just…
