Honestly I couldn't tell you. I know what role l-carnitine plays in my nutrition, but there are so many other things I do to suppliment, train, etc. that as a whole contribute to maintaining my physique.

cortisol, sure. stress can make you lose your focus... When you're stressed and you don't get in some activity or your daily workout, then you can add the "didn't workout" guilt on top of your stress. When I'm stressed, I really find forcing myself to get into the gym really helps.

If you're talking about DOMS (god I love that kind of soreness)... try and increase your sets or weight to challenge your muscles and the type of moves you are doing, change it up and confuse the muscles. I'm not an expert, but I think the casein in the milk will fight the faster absorbing protiens for absorbsion, which is why I only mix with milk at night before bed.
