  • I think "New Style" refers to the soft band versus the old hard plastic bands. Any Bluetooth band will work other than Polar,s but the sensor will have a Bluetooth symbol (pointy looped B). The one that ships with the standard FT4 will not work. An H7 costs about $65. The low energy chest strap will work with a lot of…
  • I have had one since the second day of release and I think it is GOING to be a great tool. Others have talked about the Beta issues which are being cleared up.Some have mentioned the lack of integration and that is going to be a NEW FRONTIER for Polar, we will see how they do. Nobody has mentioned the best feature to me…
  • First off understand that none of them are accurate but they do help you get a BETTER ESTIMATE. There are basically two groups. The first is activity trackers such as fitbit, up, fuelband, loop etc. These take some activity like steps and estimate calories burned from that. If it is not recording its trigger like steps…
  • You can also try " Alive" it is an over the counter muscle relaxant. Drink lots of water to flush the toxins out of your muscles and it will fell better as you go on. Good job adding the strength training.
  • If going to a Fitbit / activity tracker than keep in mind they are two VERY different animals. With an activity tracker your estimated calories are spread over the entire day, so unlike BM you will burn the same calories on an activity tracker sleeping as you will standing still in front of the refrigerator, An activity…
  • Or the polar "loop" with a Bluetooth chest strap, that covers both worlds. If you use a smartphone than consider a Bluetooth chest strap and the "I cardio" app which syncs to MFP Chest strap from polar (H7) cost about $65. Polar has an app also called "Polar Beat" that is identical but doesn't sync to MFP. The benefit of…
  • Even they may differ as they all assume a max oxygen uptake of a statistical average person based on the stats input. Your VO2 max varies significantly with your level of fitness and so results can differ. Some models of HRMs let you input or simulate a test to establish and input VO2 max. If you are using devices from…
  • No you can do it with a watch type but if you already have a smart phone it can cut cost to not buy GPS sensor etc. I have used polar for more years than I want to say and think they are great. The polar USA site has a lot of info that can help you narrow down what you want and the "Polar Beat" app is nice but only on…
  • Go for it, I belong to a PF because I don't go in for "Group" Session like my wife does, she belongs to a more full service club and loves group cycling etc. While in my opinion he is not really wrong I think he could have advised you better. If you want to lose weight as a primary goal then cardio is the way to go and it…
  • Gave up Phat Leet Loot in RPGs for fitness gadgets myself and am waiting for my Loop to arrive. I used a Fit Bit Ultra and it really screwed me up when the Negative calories first started syncing over. Wont go back because I finally got it through my dense head that an "Activity" Tracker is just that and if it does not…
  • Good black tea with almond milk light helps keep mine at bay.
  • MFP automatically makes an adjustment every 10 pound loss or gain and you can reset it yourself anytime you want.Fitbit does it daily BTW.
  • I doubt it, the Fitbit "calculates" calories based on what it measures as "Activity" like steps and stairs (maybe) so if you are doing works / exercise that does not have the same movements as steps or walking like cycling, it will not be as accurate. If you want to capture your P90x work I would think a heart rate monitor…
  • The only time I take mine off is to Shower and let it charge up than. I ensure it is off for at least 30 min and then I can enter an adjustment for calories burned. I always use the "I burned the same as" option and pick the lowest calories shown. Yes is starts each day at midnight.

  • I don't see how you can only check it once a day with your phone, LOL. I sync mine a lot. It made me think that you may want to check your settings to ensure your Bluetooth link turns off when you exit the app. That could be a drain if it is staying on and the two are close together. Just an idea.

  • Have a BM link and love it. It replaced a Fitbit one which I hated. There is a Forum for Body media BTW

  • sorry mine seems to work fine, you may want to contact customer support.

  • Agreed Olive oil burns before a good stir-fry temp. and yes you should count either one.
  • Actually the better analogy considering how much study and science have been done on each of these devices would be "a blindfolded man trying to ensure the shape of an elephant using only his hands after caring, tending and studying them for a decade without a blindfold The initial response to say they don't count calories…
  • I have no personal experience but in earlier posts I have read it seems your data will be affected. Some even tried wearing it upside down on the right arm, I guess so the directional orientation would be the same. Constant location is my biggest comlaint also but I am not wearing mine so tight as to have caused a dent…
  • Failed to point out the obvious maybe but the fitbit will not do more than a pedometer, it is certainly more accurate than the old pedometers and has a web feature but it will not capture effort in a lot of exercises like rowing, cycling, swimming, elliptical, etc. I am not even convinced it is accurate on a treadmill. So…
  • Used both and love my Bodymedia link and will never go back to the Fitbit but I am looking at the polar loop as another choice.. The size and versatility of the FB is great but also cause it to be lost or washed a lot. The BMF is not very flexible for position and although you get used to it you are aware it is there when…
  • I think it will always be confusing if you don't have sedentary as an activity level in both to come close to leveling the playing field. MFP is not as flexible as BM for changing your goal so I then adjusted the slider in BM until they both match. This also gave me the most conservative estimate for my budget. With those…
  • For me I find terms like "moderate exercise' as knid of nebulous so I am "Sedentary" on Both MFP and BMF. Basically I am saying I will log all calories I burn exercising. MFP will go ahead and make an estimate to get what they think would be my TDEE (Total Daily energy expenditure), this is my BMR plus and allowance for…
  • you can go into your "Setting" than "preferences" and toward the bottom you will see where you can adjust the "met" trigger points for moderate and vigorous. By changing those values and looking at your dashboard you will see the change on the brown and yellow sections of your activity. I play around and set mine to where…
  • I think this represents the distillation..............consistent routine and consistent measure. I think that is what all are saying here, we just have different ways of doing it that make each of us feel comfortable. I struggled for a long time and staying in budget seemed to always leave me starving. I was an Industrial…
  • Az and Dav are correct but so are the other posts on this thread. As mentioned the real way to come the closest in measuring burn is not practical outside of a Lab, Also keep in mind that the tables are also an estimate and do not reflect a "True" measure of burn, they are not lab condition measures. So use the best tool…
  • I generally don't take mine off either for the reasons stated above. If you look at your burn and choose to see all day you can see that while you are sleeping you have a fairly consistent burn, Mine is 1.9 cal/min.I use that number to estimate my BMR by-the-way. You could take it off and enter every other day and enter…

  • Hey Kansas Boy, all good stuff, I may be wrong but I think the FT60 is less than the RS300x and estimates a VO2 as well. The Polar Beat App also does it "Fitness Test" and the App with upgrades is only $8 (App is free but full upgrades are $8). Again you can use the App for mapping your run, fitness levels, etc. for the…
