The Polar H7 chest strap is low energy Bluetooth and the battery will last about a year. It sells for about $65 at Hearrate monitors USA. Will sync with all apps I think but Polar also released their own app called "Polar Beat" which does what most apps do as far as GPS mapping runs, Heart rate and calories, etc but also…

I think they are great and can provide a lot more information but the choices are tremendous so do some reading at polar. Don't just go with what others use, I use an HT 7. The field is getting crowded, if you have a smart phone the choices increase even more. I think the newest entry by polar called the "Loop" (out in a…

You are right as all it is is an upscale pedometer/activity tracker. Perhaps the new Polar wrist band with the ability to hook up to you HRM is a better answer. It will be out next month. Just remember that if you are fed up with syncing issues you wont escape by changing platform. Check out the Fit Bit forums or support…

Yes, many things can affect your metabolism from day to day and essentially the BMF is trying to quantify that metabolism. That is the premise behind "Diet Pills" and energy drinks, they boost your metabolism not cause fat to fall off. This is the reason the the BMF works for me where the fitbit left me starving, my…

New model out probably this month can look less medical and is waterproof as well as much smaller but you still have to wear it on your arm.
-
not from my experiance, it changes over time but there is always something there.
-
Tried the Fitbit and it is great if you want to just track a general activity level and you are at the statistical median for your metabolism. A new alternative that seems more wearable is the "misfit Shine". I also did not like the Fitbit interface and having to always figure out where you were going to end up in a day. I…

Or try a bodymedia fit and get a measure of your own personal TDEE

I don't think it is wise to change a plan after only one data point, you said you weigh once a week. You will see spikes up, down and plateaus over the course of your journey. A lot of it may have to do with fluids in the body and they can be impacted by a lot of things like sore muscles, salt intake, alcohol, hormones,…

There are probably more proponents of Free Weights than resistance on this site. I do resistance myself but as I understand it free weights are more effective because you use more muscle groups to keep the weight steady and where you want it. In resistance the machine does that.. Resistance machines are easier for me but…

Exactly  PS Keep in mind that over time and as you approach your goal (or are more fit) your calorie consumption at rest changes and so you need to build a new table of values based on the change. I know MFP automatically recalculates after a certain amount of weight lose. I think it is every 10 pounds.
-
I am not sure I can explain it as well as others can but this is my understanding. MFP sets a goal based on what you select for weight height and level of activity. From that Data they calculate what most people would than burn in Calories for a day, this is an estimate of TDEE (total daily energy expenditure). If you say…

Just my opinion but it seems that there are two issues being bandied about here. One is Diet Coke bad for you and two are artificial sweeteners bad for you. On the first question, yes diet cokes are not good for you but they may take a loooooooog time to have an effect. All carbonated drinks have been shown to leach…

Saw a recent review (May?) that said it was due the middle of this month but probably would be delayed by a month. So September maybe? Real curious to see what the "Optional" heart rate is all about, I have not seen how that is going to work.
-
I have only had mine for a month but love it. I had a Fitbit but seemed to always be hungry at my target allowance with it and suspected that my metabolism was higher than the norm it used in their calculations. I was also on a plateau. My BMF confirmed my suspicions and with it giving me credit on MFP I find I can easily…

Look at your burn "All Day" and get a feel for what you burn sleeping, Mine is 1.9 cal/min. If you are done eating at 8pm than you would have 4 hours times 60 min, times Calories/ min burned (1.9) for me. mine would equal 456 This will be a little conservative but better safe than sorry. If you look on the Cals burned on…

Just a side note: I have done some genetic testing on myself and my siblings. There are some gen markers for muscle type that would indicate a tendency to be a sprinter or more of an endurance runner. Mine shows Sprinter and I do not like to run and never have. My son and the siblings that like to run have the different…

If you are triathlon training than you probably have a HRM and if you do I highly recomend the Polar website to track your load, I use a FT60 and the site is: www.polarpersonaltrainer.com

I enjoy mine as well. I am a recovering fitbit user which I hated both for its interface and its lack of accuracy. On the interface I did not like to always have to calculate where I was on consumed Vs. burned calories. BMF give me a current position and a projected. It plays well with MFP and you can set them to match so…
-
Only mentioned it as an alternative becase it looks more flexible on location and may be more accurate for some exercises because of that.
-
I had a Fitbit and the accuracy was very poor, if you are used to the BMF than you will probably be disappointed, but I fully understand the arm band thing and I don't think the new version in a month or so will change that much. I you want flexibility of location AND have a smart phone you may want to check out the…

I just came to BMF from a fitbit, I was trying to hold off until the new models are released but bought one anyway. What I like about it and why I wanted it is that it lets me see what my calorie burn is when sleeping with a lot more accuracy than fitbit has. It also than has the versatility to let me set may goal based on…

MIO should not be a problem unless you are in the "No Artificial Sweeter" camp. I think that Artificial sweeteners make your body think you are taking in sugar and produce insulin that then has no sugar to convert. Some disagree. I use Lemon or lime juice and sometimes Tamarind from an Asian market. All of those are quick…

One of the primary factors for calorie burn is the VO2 that was mentioned earlier in the thread. This is a measure of your metabolism or "fitness' and goes to how effectively you move oxygen for muscle burn. I am not sure if the FT7 has a "Fitness" test or not some of the polar models do and it is a way for them to…

Fitbit only credits calories based on steps so if that is all your doing than it should give you a fairly reasonable estimate of calories. It will not give an estimate for effort so if you house cleaning contains lifting moving furniture and equipment it may lack a little. Body media will give a better total estimate of…

Because the record in fitbit will be picked up by MFP with the new integration. I had a previous thread on this and Steven's (staff) response was that fitbit changes your budget daily based on your weight while MFP changes it in 10 pound increments. So they claim it is more accurate and that is why it syncs over. Bah like…

I would not recommend Fitbit anymore if you want it to link to MFP Danu. The last update shifts how everyone was used to looking at their data and MFP does not appear to want to restore it. You might want to Google Mio Alpha and Basis, the are both Wrist type HRM that you could wear all day more comfortably. The Alpha is…

It is my understanding that when you are doing strength training you will retain weight in the form or water and electrolytes to ease the stress on the muscles and help them repair. It is not unusual for this to look like a plateau but yours seems extended. Try changing your exercise routine and see what happens eg. stop…

"Crap" day at work probably didn't help either. stress makes me hungry.
-
Well I think exercise is an appetite suppressant. If you feeling a little hunger walk a bit and see if that makes a difference. As a PP said you can go for a balance to bridge easy days versus hard exercise wise.
