Gateshead resident here, gearing up for portion control and more strength training from Monday...

I'm clearly missing a trick here...our wedding is in just under 4 weeks and I ended up changing my whole colour scheme to suit the red dress my 9 year old tomboy bridesmaid fell in love with! Plus I bought the dress 8 weeks before the wedding in case of growth spurts...! In my view, it's a DAY. An important day, but just a…

I used to run at 5-6am for this reason when I first started!. I was really self-conscious about people seeing me run. Now, I get out there when it suits me (sometimes running home from work at 5pm) in my brightly coloured running kit and I couldn't care less who sees me! As other people have said, you're doing better than…

Have you tried HIIT (high intensity interval training) or tabata? Look these up on fitnessblender or YouTube. I'm a half marathon runner and I was a sweaty shaky mess after 20 minutes of these workouts!

I'm an outdoor runner usually, but icy weather will drive me to the treadmill (I'm not naturally blessed with grace and coordination as it is...) Since treadmills don't undulate like paths do, I tend t always put in a 1-1.5% incline to ensure that I'm putting in approximately the same amount of effort. I also use intervals…

I log chewing gum, since I get through half to a full pack per day. I like to track everything I eat as missing out one thing can lead to a bit of a slippery slope...for me. Plus, I chew gum to stop me snacking, so it's useful to see when I've had to do this. In my case, afternoons are always full of gum. not so much in…

How did everyone do??? Would you do it again?

Don't wait till the month changes to get on that wagon! Get cracking now! I've been yo-yo-ing all year which is driving me insane, but I'm trying my hardest to keep the momentum going. E.g. tonight I ate far too much for dinner, but after letting it all settle, I've done an evil cardio workout and am about to hoover the…

This is me too! I have an unnaturally large appetite normally and am even worse after running! I'm also a bit of a cheese fiend... I find strong cheese allow you to use a bit less, and using the really fine grater means it'll go further when you top things with it. Also, you can make a surprisingly good pasta sauce with…

That would make sense...I've started bagging up shorts & summer dresses to put in storage and switched over to winter duvets...in Britsh weather logic, that means we're due a heatwave! Like when lighting a barbecue is the equivalent of doing a rain dance!!

These are giving me ideas on how to vary mine! Currently... Monday: rest Tuesday: strength/conditioning for 30mins (kettlebell/squats/abs...) Wednesday: 3-4mile run Thursday: rest or strength/conditioning Friday: 3-4mile run Saturday: 7-10mile run (depending on race schedule) Sunday: gym: elliptical + whichever weights…

Massive cravings for stodgy pudding and custard!!

Here's my favourite: http://www.aliontherunblog.com/ the blog of a girl in New york who has Crohns and loves to run.

First of all, thank you all so much for all the input! This is what I’m afraid of…hence asking the question! That is exactly what has been happening – I’ve been trying to keep to 10-10:30min miles and hating every minute of nearly every run! I’d never really looked at it like this…! I’ll stop bashing myself for…

Usually I've been setting a pace for my long (9-11miles) run (10:30/mile for example) and trying to stick to it, then getting disappointed with myself when I've been nearer 11 or 11:30. I'm measuring my progress by checking my average pace after each run and I've been stagnant at 10-11minute miles for most of the year. For…

I tend to wear running tights with a long sleeved top. Unless it's arctic-cold, I don't bother with a hat or gloves as I warm up pretty quickly. One of my favourite tops is an Odlo base layer which was quite expensive but is great for keeping me warm without overheating. Light running jackets are good too, mainly because I…

I would also like to confess that I hate weight lifting, never eat enough protein and sometimes run an extra mile so I can eat more cake!

I wish I could be one of those people who just runs for the pure joy of it...:noway: However, my main motivation is the sense of achievement I get from running that extra half a mile or knocking a minute off a timed race. To push myself to get these achievements, I need toys!

Generally, the ads you see on MFP are tailored to your browsing history and where you log on from. When I log on at work, a lot of the ads I see are in Dutch (I work for a dutch company and internet apparently goes through their servers). I also see ads for running shoes, hotels and bridesmaid dresses, so no prizes for…

SHOES!! Go to a proper running shop, where they look at how you stand/walk/run and recommend the right running shoes for you. The right shoes make everything much easier. If you've already done this, then it could be overpronating, where you "reach" too far forwards with your front foot. Other runners might be able to…

Also watching it...bringing back memories of Slimming World meetings I used to drag myself to!

Well done!

Latest update: 2 mile run 1 day after donation: utter disaster, felt like there was a heartbeat in my head. 7 mile run 3 days after donation: got to 4 miles easily enough, then it got hard - just had no energy. Gave up on 10 miles and stopped at 7. Humidity and big hills probably aren't helping!! Will try 5 miles the day…

Good thinking! Might try that! Thanks everyone!

I'm also a sweater! After a long run in summer, the backs of my knees are sweaty, my hair is soaking and my kit needs to be washed twice!

I prefer to have something that makes me smile or motivates me as a profile pic. Like this one to stop me heading to the fridge!

You're still faster than the people sat on their backsides! As stumblinthru said, don't compare your time to other people's, just focus on what you're doing. If you want to try speeding up a bit, there are running programmes to help, e.g. c25k, asics online. Well done to stumblinthru as well, always feels good to smash a…

In the check-in section, you can edit/delete/add previous entries...done it myself once or twice!

Just started using it since my Garmin keeps crashing...seems accurate enough, but might use the 2 together to know for sure!

Ooh, exciting! I tend to avoid alcohol for a week before a half marathon, mainly because I can feel even half a glass of wine the next day! I also avoid excessive fried food a few days beforehand since it makes me sluggish. As far as training is concerned, I have my last run of 4-5miles 3 days beforehand, then do lots of…
