Is it just me who needs a bit of a kick?!
Thanks to half marathon prep (did it Sunday!) and a general lack of interest in cutting calories, my weight has crept up over the past 3-4 weeks. Plus I have been diligently logging my calorie excess each day and now I have 50 penalties to do to break even! SO! I have just been ordered to cut the carbs for 2 weeks so this…

Spreadsheet for results
Hope no one minds but I've started a spreadsheet to record results and goals - just weight loss at the moment but we could add stuff like diet and activity goals later...? Everyone should be able to access it using the below link (let me know if it works...)…

w/c 11th January
Well my weight loss journey for 2016 is off to a rather rubbish start! I've gained nearly 1.5lb! :'( So, I've created an 11-17th January tab and put my goals in for this week. I normally don't put weight loss goals as the scale can be difficult to predict, but I figured a good loss after a gain should be achievable if I do…

Getting started...?
Shall we have a weigh-in/results check?? I'll go first - On Sunday 3rd Jan (my weigh-in day), I was 72.2kg (=159lb) Aim for Sunday 10th is 71.5kg (= 157lb) started a bit late so hoping 2lb off is do-able...

clean eating and distance running
Hi all, I asked this question a while ago on the long distance runner forum but thought I would also try here... I've been eating mostly clean (aside from my beloved cheats) for 7 months now and feel much better for kicking the sugar in particular. However, I have a half marathon in September and have always trained with…

Low carb/clean eating and half-marathon training?
Apologies if this has been asked before but I can't seem to find old posts. Just wondering if anyone is managing mid-long runs on a low carb plan? I'm currently seeing a trainer who has put me on a very low carb plan (small portion of rice/sweet potato/quinoa with evening meal only). It's not an issue at the moment since…

running after chesty cough
Hi all, I'm sure this has been covered at some point but couldn't find it after searching... I have a rotten cold, which as per usual has mutated into a seal-like barking cough. I'm not considering running at the moment but am wondering how much time I should take out of my schedule. My last run was 9miles 6 days ago and…

workout songs?
Hi all, One of my favourite ways to zone out during a long run is to mess about with song lyrics to make them fitness related. And having seen the Christmas Carol thread last month, I know that there are some other budding poets out there! There's Thrift Shop by Macklemore... I'm gonna hit the streets Only got 7…

sick of running....??
Hopefully I am asking this question in the right forum…I know many of you are die-hard running fans! I’ve just done my 3rd half-marathon of the year and my main thought has been “thank God that’s all over”! I really resented the last month of training – nearly every run I did was “because I had to”. I also struggled…

Self sabotage?
Has anyone found it harder to motivate themselves to eat right, as the wedding date looms? I have less than 3 months to go (and 2 till my dress fitting) and I seem to be becoming more and more of a human food disposal unit! Exercise isn't a problem as I'm a runner in training for a half marathon...and cardio makes me…

Running after giving blood
Anyone a blood donor? How long does it take you to recover after a donation? I gave blood Wednesday afternoon and ran home from work Thursday night and couldn't do more than 2 miles without feeling awful! I currently have a 10miler scheduled for tomorrow and am wondering if I'll have recovered enough by then... Thanks in…

Really want to get a faster 10km
Hi all, My next shorter race is a 10km on 23rd June, and I'd really like to break the 60minute barrier! Last year, I managed 61 minutes, which was really hard work. Not helped by the last 1-1.5miles being a steep uphill! :noway: I'm usually a half-marathon runner and my pace is slowly creeping from 10.5minute miles to…

The Apprentice workout
Anyone else fancy trying this tonight? http://www.thepoke.co.uk/2012/03/21/the-apprentice-2012-workout/ Can't add the pic on here, but will try to put it on my profile.

GPS watch?
Hello all, I'm rapidly falling out of love with my Garmin forerunner 110 and was after recommendations please! I like to track miles and pace. I also sometimes use it with a HRM for at home workouts. The Garmin was ok, but it takes forever to find satellites and the on/off button has just stopped working! PLus it…

Feeling cold after hard run
Hello all, Just wondering if anyone else has had this... After today's fast 6 mile run, I'm really struggling to get warm! I also noticed this after a punishing half marathon last month. I've never had this issue after shorter runs or steady long runs so I'm wondering if it's to do with tougher runs?

posterior shin splints?!
Has anyone ever had the above? How long did it take to heal? I have a random pain on my inner calf and it feels really tight. Ok when I walk but sore when I run. I'm not sure if it's 'posterior shin splints' (result of googling 'inner lower leg pain') or some kind of pulled muscle... I'm currently resting for a few days…

Health and Safety in the Workplace
Apologies if this is not the correct forum for this, but I want to reach as wide an audience as possible! I have recently heard that the government is planning to amend the Health and Safety Act so that employers won't have liability for the health and safety of their workers for the first time since 1898. I work near a…

sifting through rumours around weight training
hello all, I'm a definite cardio junkie but would like to incorporate more strength training into my gym sessions. However, I'm starting to get confused with all the conflicting information out there. Some say that lifting light weights for lots of reps (dull!) often helps toning without adding bulk. At one gym I went to,…

Feel like jacking it in till January...
Hello all, Think I need a bit of a kick up the backside! :embarassed: My weight-loss was good through September and October, then slowly but surely the pounds have crept back on due to eating the wrong things and eating FAR too much of everything. Plus Christmas is looming, which means that spare time which would normally…

Snack ideas
I've been checking out my food diaries for the past few weeks and I've found that I'm a bit of a sugar-holic! All my snacks seem to be based around cereal bars, dried fruit, chocolate and fresh fruit. Does anyone have any ideas for healthy snacks which are more protein or wholegrain based? Ideally ones that could be…

Diet Days of Christmas
hello all, One thing I enjoy doing is messing around with song lyrics so I've done a 'Dieter's 12 Days of Christmas': http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Saree1902/view/diet-days-of-christmas-451141 If nothing else, it might make you smile...and maybe even focus on weight-loss goals in the impending month of over-indulgence!…

painting/decorating
Is there an entry for painting/decorating/general DIY/home improvements anywhere on MFP? Or shall i just put it under 'cleaning'?!
-
Will I do it this time??
Hello all, I've been using MFP for just over a couple of months but the past month was a write-off with family and work issues. So, 1 month of comfort-eating later, I'm ready to get back on the diet wagon. Exercise is not really an issue - I'm a keen runner and I regularly go to the gym. But I like food. A LOT! Plus, I've…
