Wondering if I can manage a new start right now since I'm off to Spain tomorrow to see my mother. Combination of crazy mother and access to calamari is asking for trouble, but I have at least packed my running kit! I've also joined a lose 5lb in April challenge as I'm at the point where I've always previously given up and…

Going to give this a go to get past a plateau...and also to motivate myself to make a few healthy choices on holiday this week! Unheard of for me to tell people what I weigh so this is a bit of a hurdle... HW: 198 SW: 181 (this time) CW: 172 GW: 167 (end of April) UGW: 139 H: 5'4 A: 32 Other goal for this month is to run…

Like this strategy!

Haha!! That made me giggle Just started checking the adverts on mine and it's loan companies, boiler servicing and diet tips...my browser history is a bit dull, to say the least!
-
Thanks - just downloaded a couple of these as I'm trying to get a new-ish playlist together for the next half marathon.
-
Me too! Any sense of deprivation and I tend to dive stright into the chocolate...
-
I can relate to this - I run 2-3 times a week, walk 1.5miles to work and back and go to the gym a couple of times a week....but I'm a food monster! One thing which definitely helps is increasing the protein - my morning cereal bar is now a small pot of cooked chicken and it seems to keep me a bit fuller. I also try to eat…

Happy meals have fewer calories than supersized ones....!! But yes, rubbish advert for a fitness site!

Very well said! I'm also a runner and make a point of smiling at each fellow nutter out pounding the pavement in the rain/wind/sleet! Some blank me (afternoon runners less friendly than morning ones...odd!) but I still grin like a loon every time I see someone else running.
-
so true!

I'm also a bit of a sugar-holic! :embarassed: To curb cravings, I often go for sugar free minty chewing gum, or I'll clean my teeth if I'm at home. Everything tastes weird after mint, so it's easier not to give in!

Glad people are linking the train metaphor...it came to me when I was watching a really nerdy TV program about Network rail...!! Think I'll put it on my profile...

I can relate to the frustration of not being able to run - In 2009, I fell over 2 weeks before a half-marathon and gave my kneecap a good bash...could hardly walk for a while, never mind run. And I got depressed and put on a load of weight. If you can afford it, I can highly recommend booking in with a sports physio for at…

That is such a good idea! I might try that next time, instead of inhaling 3 giant brownies...!

I frequently go over on my calories! Sometimes because I'm fed up, sometimes because someone has brought cake to the office or sometimes because I'm having a ravenous-wolverine day! It's usually by anywhere from 100 to 1000 calories, but it can happen 2-3 times a week. My usual strategy for dealing with it is to work extra…

How long have you been doing this for? If you're feeling really hungry, it might be worth eating back some exercise calories. If you feel ok, carry on but from what I've seen on these forums, too large a calorie deficit can lead to a stall in weight loss after a few weeks. If you struggle to eat after a workout, maybe have…
-
I don't...I just hit the gym more! Luckily, the angry energy helps me get a good workout in! (Before, rather than during!) Occasionally I'll be able to switch a bar of chocolate for low cal hot chocolate, but not often...!
-
Well done! And remember this feeling. Those runs which make you feel on top of the world can often take you through the ones which are a nightmare...!
-
Portion control Identifying "hunger" rather than boredom Those times in the calendar when the only thing that will stop homicidal impulses is a pile of chocolate.... A few things...!
-
How about you have a big salad before you go, to take the edge off the hunger, so that you can make some sensible choices when you're there? If this is to be a way of life, then finding some way of taking control over what you eat might be a better approach...
-
Well done, you should be so proud! And 10 months from nothing all the way up to running a half marathon is fantastic! Have you caught the bug now??

Usually force myself to but I'm a cardio junkie! Avoid anything strenuous for the abs if it's still tender. And I saw a physio for mine who recommended Pilates to build core strength. I'm 3 weeks in and still a total novice but it seems to be helping. X

Nit sure where your back is tender, but I've had lower back issues and I can relate to the need to keep moving! Try going gentle on the bike or cross trainer. Rowing might add pressure and the impact from running could also upset it. Also, I swear by a pain relief gel containing menthol and ibuprofen. In the UK (not looked…

I'm a definite yoyo-er! Had a major diet meltdown before Xmas as I just couldn't cope with the festive season, so I ate lots of fatty food and glued my backside to the sofa...which ended up making me feel worse! And I gained all the weight I had lost over the previous 2-3 months (6lb...I'm not a speedy weight-loser!) Now,…

Hey, I've had to do some dreadmill training myself as the ice has put paid to a lot of outdoor running - I have the grace and coordination of bambi crossed with a hippo! You could try varying the incline on the treadmill to account for variations in terrain. I often do hill intervals, where I'll do steps of 2-3 mins each…

I have pretty substantial thighs and tend to find that jeans with a bit of stretch in them fit me pretty well.
-
I do this race every year, since it goes past my house and it'd be rude not to...! There's plenty of time to get the training in, just build up slowly - don't increase long runs by more than 10% a week. Also, don't feel bad about walking breaks during runs. I swear by them to break up long runs, sometimes! And the…

I personally put sedentary, even though I'm up and down the stairs at work, walking at lunchtime and working out 4 times a week. However, I log nearly every activity I do - cleaning, walking, going to the gym... and eat back all my exercise calories. To be honest, I mainly keep active so I can eat more...I like food!!…

Love it! Especially the diet section!

I've gone for 50carbs, 20fat and 30protein.
