  • One fav' song? Linkin Park: Bleed it Out. Good beat, very uptempo, and it's a great beat to keep a fast run to.
  • Asheville, NC here.
  • You could probably work in some elliptical or exercise bike for cardio and not have an adverse effect on your regular training regimen. Start off with maybe 20 minutes each time you work out. This could be your warm up or cool down exercise even.
  • Often when you work out hard you can burn muscle too. Its not going to make you flabby. Now what more serious weight lifters will do is drink a protein shake before and after a workout. Before helps negate a catabolic state where your body starts using muscle whereas after is to speed recovery of the muscles you just…
  • Krispy Kreme donuts.... I'll eat em and then feel sick afterwards, but I can't resist the sugary goodness.
  • Yeah. Olympic bar for sure and weights aren't a wearable thing so buy used if you can. Weights is weights is weights... but I'm partial to the rubber coated ones since I'm a spaz and like to pinch my fingers. There are "adjustable" dumbells that might work out pretty great for a home gym. Instead of adding plates or buying…
  • I feel bad for these test subjects if they're only getting it for 6 minutes.
  • In about 4 days you'll start to regress, but it's slow. The biggest thing you may notice will be just getting your strength back up to par from being sick. You may feel fine but when you go to exercise you won't have the same level of intensity. It's not that you are suddenly out of shape or lost that much in a week, but…
  • Could just be worn out. They lose the shock absorption and you start feeling it in your joints. Since it's gradual you may not realize it's your shoes and start thinking it's you. When I decided to retire mine I realized when I stood up one heel was lower than the other. Yeah, they were shot. They still looked good, but…
  • Had a pair of Adidas trail running shoes. They had a nice wide base and good stability. I found them excellent for anything I wanted to throw at them. My Drill Sergeant even let me use them the last week of basic and I used them all through AIT. Ran on all terrain with them and did pt indoors and out. Maybe look into…
  • Not sure about the tracking part, but how long are you running that you need additional carbs? Typically if you're running longer than 45-60 minutes you should eat some carbs and drink some water. Otherwise you may just be eating back the calories you burn for no apparent reason. Sugar as it is a carb, and other carbs…
  • Well, it's not like you get to try them before you buy them. The local bike shop here has a return policy on their saddles. Buy it, try it, don't like it? Bring it back for a full refund. Check with local cycling shops as far as return policy on saddles. Also, have you tried cycling shorts? They have extra padding in the…
  • Asic's Gel-Nimbus 14. They're a bit pricey but probably one of the most comfortable shoes out there. I do suggest you visit a runner's store. They can check your gait for you and suggest good shoes. They should have reasonably priced shoes as well. Don't be scared off thinking they'll want $300 for a pair. I would expect…
  • Resistance bands. I bought a set at Wal Mart, Gold's Gym brand. It's an entire set with a workout dvd. I bring it with me when I travel. I get a good workout from it. Not the weights and cardio I'm used to at the gym, but I really like it. Didn't even cost me $30 at the time.

  • A couple things may be at play or at least working on them will help. Posture is a big thing. We think we're fine until something hurts or somebody points something out. You don't want to really be bent over as you run and don't need to bring your legs too far forward. Concentrate on posture. It may mean you fatigue…
  • Calories. You count them, eat them, burn them, etc. There is a lot more going on than just calories in and calories out. Take for example when you workout. You continue burning calories for hours afterwards at an accelerated rate over your resting rate. I don't buy into the "fat burning rate" fad. It does nothing to get my…
  • We've all started at a point that seemed low. If you keep at it and push yourself you'll make gains really fast. I was going up about 5lbs on everything each week for a very long time. I've started to plateau a bit now. I've changed up my routine to compensate but at some point you slow down a bit. So now I'd say it's…
  • The best I've felt after lifting was when playing basketball afterwards. Now those first few shots fell waaaay short, but we kept at it for up to a half hour. It was fun, plus it helped push any lactic acid through our muscles. I also take supplements and whey protein to help recovery. I was minimally sore. Other times if…
  • I bought a Gold's Gym resistance band workout set. Was under $30 and even came with a good dvd workout program. I take it with me when I'm on the road for work since not all hotels have gyms.
  • I would say take the cable with you to Lowe's or Home Depot and see what they have to match up. Make sure you check the weight rating of the cable so you don't buy one that's too small. Also, try contacting the company that made the gym. They might have a replacement cable available cheap or free.
  • Depends on my mood. I can listen to some Wu-Tang Clan and get in a groove for running or whatever, but sometimes I need to turn up some Asking Alexandria or Amyst. Rolling in the Deep by Amyst (a cover, yes) really fires me up and is great when I need a second wind.
  • I have the Realflex as well. It's more akin to a minimalist running style/requirement. I think they're fine for around the gym but doing serious running ends with me feeling like I shoulda gotten the plate number off the truck that hit me. I don't get shin splints but everything really gets achy. Ran 5 miles in my tired…
  • I would say so. Sounds almost a bit excessive, but if you can handle the load then you're ok.
  • It can take up to 2 days to become fully hydrated. Drinking water before and during is not enough. Make drinking plenty of water a way of life, then just a bit during exercise as needed. Not sure what a "Want More Energy" is but you don't need drinks packed with stuff to workout. Coconut water is excellent for rehydrating…
  • Running store. Get gait checked and pick what feels best. Asics, Brooks, New Balance, Adidas, Nike, Mizuno, etc. all make excellent running shoes. What works for one person may not work for another. I've personally found Brooks and Asics to be really good and I love my Adidas.
  • good maybe if you're trapped in the woods and it gets cold at night... otherwise a waste of money.
  • WebMD says you either have dengue fever or a splinter. Just kidding. Sounds normal. Anything hurt? Why are you asking?
  • Sam's Club usually has nice equipment and decent prices. I'd take a gander over there. Also, depends on your budget. What's not too much money? Wal Mart treadmill pricing? The cheaper ones tend to be smaller as well.
  • Knee pain is vague as there's a lot that can go wrong with your knee. Where is the pain radiating from in your knee? Front, back, etc. If it's that bad then I suggest you see a doctor before you get back on it. Trying to tough it out may only be causing more damage.
  • Find a local running store and get fitted there. They'll have you run on a treadmill and evaluate your gait. If you're looking for a stability shoe then you'll be looking at running specific brands such as Brooks or Asics. ****'s Sporting Goods also labels the shelf tags if it's a stability shoe. If you need a more normal…
