i think both methods work, but it depends what you are looking for. Strong lifts give you powerful muscles that are more fast twitch and for power. Less endurance. Functional training is about using less weights and working more on always using your whole body... like arms, legs and core are all engaged. Focuses more on…

If two minutes is easy for you, there are sooo many different variations of planks to make it harder and more challenging. Check youtube fore some variations. Planks work shoulders, core, back, legs... it's practically a full body workout.

The first week or two you generally do see the fastest weight loss mostly due to water and glygoen storage loss. Your body uses your glycogen storage for energy when you restrict calories. Once those things even out, your weight loss does slow. I lost 5 lbs my first two weeks and since then it has been .5lbs to 1 lb per…

Well.. some people's bones ARE bigger than others(frame size) and some people are more susceptible to weight gain due to genetics, hormones, muscle fiber type etc. That was a pretty insensitive thing to say if you ask me. I do agree with you that people use that excuse much too loosely and often when really they need to…

I eat luna bars all the time just because I love sweet carby foods and these are a healthier alternative since they do have some extra protein and fiber in them.
-
I'm 5'9.5" and currently 162, but ultimately I want to be between 145-150. That weight is best for my running speed/endurance.
-
I'm 5'10" and gone from about 178 to 164 and I don't really notice anything and no one has said anything! booo

I'm in as well! SW- 154 GW-142

I was on it for 6 months or so and I didn't gain any weight. I think for some people it may increase appetite or something, but I didn't notice.

I work out approximately 3-4 days/week depending how I feel. Generally I get 3 days of strength training which is about 30 minutes and I do about 40 min of cardio.
-
I eat for both. I really don't see the point of eating something if it doesn't taste good. I won't feel satisfied so I have to like the taste too. However, I do try to eat mostly healthy foods (that I enjoy), but sometimes I eat the unhealthy things too. All in moderation.

This is extremely unhealthy. How are you calculating your exercise calories burned because it would take hours to burn that many exercise calories. If you keep going like this you are going to lose ALL of your muscle and end up with other health problems (heart and other organ damage) because your body isn't getting the…

I am not sure of the website, but there are probably others who do know of this website where you can plug in your heart rates and time exercised in and it will give you approximate calories burned. hopefully someone will pipe in with the website....
-
Well, you probably burn close to 100-150 calories just doing normal activities for 90 min, so walking for 90 minutes should burn more than 200 calories, but 583 does seem a little high to me....

Well, I prefer to run outside as well, but lately I've been going to the gym and doing my cardio there. I find I can only do 25 min on the treadmill before I die of boredom and have to choose a different machine (arc trainer, stair stepper), but outside I can go much longer. I also get more physically tired on the…

I get nauseous from running if I am running really hard and too intensely. When I do track repeats or really fast tempo runs(too fast) I get nauseous. I am not sure if this is your issue or not, but it is a possibility.

I can see how it may help you to lose weight faster... and easier (since you won't be starving all the time), but if you are in a caloric deficit (large or small) you are going to lose weight. It's just that some of it is going to be more muscle if you go with a larger deficit. I don't see how you can eat 1200 cal/day and…

Yeah it's true that you can get your HR up for short bursts but it is harder to keep it up for an extended period of time like with cardio. I suppose if you do your strength training right, like in a circuit, it can be pretty intense and pretty cardiovascular as well as strength. That is usually how I do it, but it really…

Yeah, 3X per week is pretty good for maintaining cardiovascular fitness. I am not really an expert on the strength training but I think most people would say you should be eating more than 100-110 grams of protein. You also need to make sure you are eating plenty in order to really gain muscle. If you eat in a deficit it…

Well in my opinion everyone should be doing cardio to maintain and increase cardiovascular fitness. What good is eating healthy and trying to do good for your body without cardio to keep your heart healthy? Of course, that is just my feeling on the matter, and I am sure others will have their opinions.

Yeah I do realize that even if I had been doing nothing I probably would have burned half of those calories anyway. I just log to keep track of exercise and I like to know what I did day to day and it's nice to see approximately how many calories that I burned doing that. I know it's technically not all extra calories but…

Even though it may not be enough to increase heart rate and improve cardiovascular fitness, she would still be burning more calories than her normal (especially if she put down sedentary as her activity level), so I think it is perfectly fine to log as exercise. Today, I mowed the lawn and pulled weeds/did yard work and…

I usually get the honey oat bread which has 5 grams of fiber and 9 grams of protein for a 6" bread. I usually just get the turkey breast sub with light mayo and mustard, but there are several decent choices there.

I think 450-500 calories burned from exercise is pretty good and you really don't need to burn more than that in a day unless you are training for some kind of long distance event. Losing weight is more about what you eat than how much you exercise though.
-
I don't workout even with a cold because I usually feel pretty miserable. My nose runs so bad I need kleenex every 5 min and with the constant sneezing/coughing its just not reasonable. I know people that exercise during colds and I don't know how they do it because I can't imagine doing that. Once I start to feel better I…

sometimes the first day back can be rough, but after 5 days you shouldn't have lost too much endurance. You should be able to get back to your previous levels quite quickly in my opinion. After a week or so of not running you may get sore the next day or something, but even then you should improve to previous levels very…

I track calciium because I know I am often low on that if don't pay attention. I also track fiber because I can easily be low on that as well.
-
I usually do weights first... but that's only because if I did cardio first I would not have any energy for weights and I want to be fresh for weights.
-
I'm closer to 5'10" but I'll give my stats. Currently I am approximately 160 lbs and my goal weight is 145-150. I have been as low as 130 and I was way too thin then, but I think 145 will be good. Mostly I just want to be a quicker runner than I am now.
