  • I have really enjoyed this challenge. I have got to know and respect the people in my team. The challenge has made me exercise more and I have tried swimming which I had not done for a few years. I have a range of activities and I now feel motivated to make the extra effort. I feel so much better for doing this challenge…

  • Since I joined MFP i ahve been trying to get fitter.I have done spin classes , running, Xainer and spinning. I saw this group anfd thought I would give it a try. I have just finished day 1 and dripping with sweat. At first I thought it would be fairly easy but the weight bit I find harder so it must be doing me good. I do…

  • I am just about to retire. In the last few years of teaching I put on weight, mega stress and little or no exercise. I am in the process of sorting out all my teaching stuff as I hope to tutor a bit and need to clearr everything from school by the end of August when I am officially finished. I did not stand on scales for…
  • Outside is best, fresh air, changing scenery and feel good factor. Running on a teadmill in the gym is when it is wet. I hate running in the rain I can't see where I am going as I wear specs. The gym just never has enough air conditioning. The treadmills face a big mirror!!!!! The people either side is always running…
  • I'm from Winchester. I love the weather, there is always the element of surprise, never predictable but it was hot today.
  • Hi This is not a success story as only just started exactly in the same boat. I finish on 31 August ( but now on summer holiday) as head of dept in a very successful school but that meant huge amount of stress to keep results. I also stress ate, biscuits at break , good school lunch and comfort food when home ( before…
  • Agree on the music I can also can spend an evening sorting out the order of tracks. I start with We are the champions ( always look on the bright side is my motto) with mix of cheesy beat music if I had enough puff I would sing along but that would scare everyone!
  • Hi I am old and slow; I also have a fluoro pink top with black trousers with pink strip outfit! I did a beginners running course and they suggested fluoro as we were running in the Autumn evenings. It was pink or yellow and I never wear yellow. Hence no-one can miss me. I have just started a get fit campaign and like you…
  • Hi Welcome to a fellow faller off the wagon. I was so much lighter last year and fitter 2 weeks at a boot camp relayy helped. Then work got in the way and oncer \i had slippedf a bit of fitness it was like a vertical slide down. As I got unfitter I did not want to exercise so nibbled in the evening. No big meals but just…
  • Thqanks everyone for support. I will try and increase weights. I broke my arm last year and am building up weights slowly ( the one disadvantage of aging is that healing is so much slower). I do spinning class 3 times a week and that burns about 400 cals. I also do some running and cross trainer. I will try weight stuff…
  • Is your team full I would love to join. I have only just started on a concept and this would make me row each day
  • Hi I am from UK and typically we use both. I started using kg as over 11 stone was terrible but 73.8kg did not seem so bad ( it is all brain games I think I would be too depressed to even start the journey). Also I have a graph of my weight loss and kg is easier than stones and pounds. I have set targets for 11stone,…
  • Many congratulations, you look fantastic. As one just starting this journey your pictures are great motivation so thanks for sharing them
  • Hi Count me in. At the moment it is so hot, far to hot to exercise but that is just an excuse.... I need a challenge. I really need to lose the weight I have put on over the years. I lost some at a boot camp last year and then put it back on ( and more) plus lost all the fitness. I can remember how good I felt whern…
  • I have a polar F11 and a garmin, the garmin gives about half the calorie burnt on the polar. I just use polar in the gym and garmin outside and at the end ot the day it is the weight lost that counts and I just use the HRM to push me to work harder.
  • Hi I am in a similar position. There are lots on free training plans on line to help you also podrunner do free downloads with slower and fast intervals to get you into walk/jog mode. They do a 10k training in 8 weeks, each week the slower intervals get shorter and the faster ones get longer all to music . Is there a…
  • I checked the garmin on the web page and I could see the speed, elevation and heart rate throughout no gaps. So I am going to change the activity level and see if that makes a difference. I will put on polar and garmin and see how close I can get them... bit of a geek approach but will get me out exercising as I try and…
  • I have just done a 12k jog. When I put it into exercise it gave me about 1000 cals burnt but the Gramin gave me 430. I have decided it does not matter what matters is the weight lost but it is interesting why there is such a discrepancy ( I would prefer the 1000 cals)
  • Hi I actually went for a jog this morning did 12k mixture of walk and run. I saw 2 herons and 2 swans with 5 cynets; it was so peaceful, slightly misty buit already getting hotter; summer is finally coming to the UK

  • Hi I have a polar and was given a garmin to help me take up running. The garmin logs about half the calories of a polar, both have height, weight and age in. I now use the polar in the gym and the garmin outside but would love to know why the difference. I tried both companies but bothy say they use the right method to…
  • I have a notebook and weigh everything ( well almost!) then log it in the evening. I am widowed and my children have left home so often evenings are on my own, it is so easy to just graze all evening and that is how the weight went on. I find if I go to the gym about 6 then I do not get home until after 8 hot and sweaty (…

  • Hi I am 65 and find it very easy to put on weight but getting it off is getting much harder. After 10 months of denial, lack of exercise and general not looking in the mirror, I stood on the scales. After the shock had gone I joined this site and am determined to lose weight. I am finding it very useful to log my daily…

  • Hi Try being in UK no heat but LOTS of rain, beating all time records. I could swim instead of run. It is supposed to get better next week but I will wait and see..
  • Hi If you look up podrunner there is a free set of tracks to get you running. It does 8 week programmes and the music is different each week. I think it is brilliant as it incorporates slower and faster bits and tells you when tio change pace; as ypu go through the weeks the slower bits gets less
