No disrepect to you but dangerous dogs that break into their neighbours garden are a bit of a different issue from me running with my unleashed dog in a wide open field! I will continue to allow my dog to run freely where it is LEGAL to do so. The fact that the dogs had left their yard SEVERAL TIMES without the owner…

You may have misunderstood what Atlantique was saying in his post. Alpha theory is a particularly aggressive form of dog training based on many misconceptions of evolution often perpetuated by people who quite frankly haven't got the faintest clue about animal behaviourism but like to have a go. It often results in…

Sounds like "Curves" in the UK... My idea of hell....

Exactly... http://k9domain.org/alpha_theory.aspx http://www.cleardogtraining.com.au/training-articles/training-methods/70-the-alpha-theory-based-on-a-misguided-premise-by-debra-millikin.html

I agree that's another example of poor training. If you can't safely attach a lead to your dogs they are poorly trained - end of. They call the shots, not you, and that's wrong. When people say dogs must be leashed at all times "in a public place" it depends what you mean with in a public place. Mine is leashed in town, in…

    That's exactly what I thought when I saw the thread title!!

Someone used the analogy once to "run like you're on hot coals"... It's a good way to explain it. Light strike, high cadence.

That's just not appropriate. In the UK if your neighbours dogs are running free and pose a risk to others, you call your local dog warden and they would be having a word with the owners and potentially threaten to remove them unless they were controlled.

My dog is only off leash in open green spaces, woodland, parks etc. When I walk her on the road I would always have her on a lead, not because I don't trust her temperament but because I don't want her to end up under a car. Like I said, a well trained dog should respond to recall. Mine instantly spins around and runs back…

Google "Pose Running". I worked at changing my gait from severe heel striker to midfoot runner over a period of about a year and I haven't looked back.

I run with my dog off the leash. She has never bitten anyone, human or other dogs. She doesn't even approach other people unless they encourage her to do so. In terms of other people's dogs off the leash, in my experience locally where I live the only people who have their dogs off the leash are those who are with friendly…

Awww... :frown: :frown: I would be very sad if I had no green open spaces near me where she could run free.

That's fine as long as you don't have to carry him home!

You keep going when you find something you actually enjoy doing. It sounds like you think exercise is a chore, and therein lies your problem.

Surely you get those wherever you go?? I like it at FF. Have been there for years. It's not a snobbish club which I like. I had a trial membership at David Lloyds once... How awful... The place is full of extremely tanned (i.e. overbaked!!) women with fake hair extentions and ridiculous plastic fingernails.

Morning all  We did lots of walking this weekend and squeezed in our 20 min run. We've just been invited to a pack walk which happens every first Sunday of the month where a local rescue centre team up with local dog foster carers and people who have adopted their dogs from the centre and go for a big walk,…

It's great you feel safe with her but the launching herself at other dogs I would say must be addressed. I see a few poorly trained dogs in my area with owners who are not at all in control of their animal and it can be quite intimidating, even dangerous.

My friend was the only woman to do the triple Ironman last year and she did all her run training with her Border Collie. Some of her runs were during the night and 30-40 miles and he was loving it. He drinks out of puddles and streams whereever you pass them and never seems to tire.

Your driving licence states your weight? Wow.

For that money you can do better in the EOS range than the Rebel T1.

That's about £550 in my currency... Often electronics are cheaper in the US than the UK... Have you seen whether you could get a Nikon D90 for that cash? Or a D5100? Alternatively Canon EOS 550D, or 600D?

What's your budget? If your fiances are unlimited, the world is your oyster. I have a Nikon D3000 with a 18-55 and a 70-300. It takes lovely shots and does what I want it to at a budget I can afford as I have more than one hobby and am not a pro. If I won the lottery I'd get a Nikon D3.

I think there is a difference people just chatting between sets and people just being downright ignorant. One night this girl sat on the C2, either looking at herself in the mirror playing with her hair, flicking through her iPod or texting on her mobile, just rocking the seat of the rowing machine back and forth in a…

I suspect it's just old inner tubes that have some rot cracks which act like slow punctures. A couple of new tubes might just sort it out. I doubt it's your weight.
-
A lot of people take scheduled rest breaks between sets when weight training and during that time chat with someone they know. Usually they do not take offence to people asking whether you can jump in between sets.

I've spoken to my vet and she was happy for her to start. She says it depends on the breed. Because she is a border collie cross, she is essentially a "working dog" and if she were on a farm she would be doing many more miles running around herding sheep that she does with me at the moment... When we "run" it's me that's…

LOL yes I have friends with various sight hounds, greyhounds, whippets, lurchers... They are unbeliiiiievably fast!!! :noway: but also really lazy and sleep loads!! And they never like to go out in the rain etc.
