  • Funny, mine is exactly the other way. When we're walking it's nose to the floor, random zig-zagging whereever the scent takes her, oh hello another dog, oh hello a rabbit etc etc.... When we're running she is right next to my left leg, totally focussed and if I'm not stopping - she's not stopping... regardless of…
  • Hi Irene, :flowerforyou: I also gained considerable weight last year after an injury. I couldn't exercise and ate too much or the wrong stuff. I'm only re-starting to run again myself so I am keeping it easy for both me and her. It's lovely companionship on a run though and much less boring! haha
  • Excellent!! Often I drive to particularly nice paces where we can run and then she always sleeps in the car on the way back! Have you heard of CaniX races? http://www.cani-cross.co.uk (you're probably in the US, but you may have something similar?) I have a place for the London Marathon next year and…
  • My friend who is a marathon runner tried to run with her 50kg Staffordshire Bull Terrier.... After about a mile he just sat down and refused to move any further and she had to carry / drag him home!! :embarassed:
  • I have friends with Springer Spaniels and indeed they can go on forever. I'm sure mine could do A LOT more than I ask of her at the moment, but all the professional advice suggests to start them gently so I will. At the moment I sneak in a 20min jog into our evening walk every other day and when we're done she…
  • Sometimes for very early running I might even sleep in my running kit. When the alarm goes off, put on shoes and straight out of the door... Once you're in fresh air you'll wake up soon enough!! It takes willpower and committment. If you just hit snooze and roll over, you've got to ask yourself if you want it enough.
  • I have a desk job but am the fittest person in my office... Go figure... It's not just a question what you do during your 8 hours at work, but what you do with the 4 hours before and the 4 hours afterwards... Plenty of time to be active.
  • Being a PT in a gym chain is usually poorly paid (in terms of the basic pay), so their are approaching people on spec to basically tout for business (1-2-1- sessions). And some are very sensitive and helpful... and some don't have the social skills and come across as pushy. If someone keeps bothering you and you told them…
  • Useless isolation exercise. Listen to the people who told you to do cardio and stick with major compound moves like squats and lunges which use major muscle groups as well as core stabilisers rather than isolating single muscles.
  • Hi guys. Am still on holidays in Lanzarote. Limited ability to cook and still logging but often having to guess calories. At also a lot more active, i.e. Trail running, fell running, mountain biking, hiking, climbing etc. So hopefully that will off set any eating out. It's nice to feel comfortable in a bikini again that's…
  • All I wanted was to fit back into my neoprene wetsuit. The damn things are so expensive I really couldn't afford to buy a new one... and it fits again since last month, it's fantastic. And I'm so much looking forward to cross country run in shorts and crop top in the summer.
  • I was very preoccupied with it initially, almost to the point of OCD..., but not anymore. I'm kind of glad about that as it is a bit boring...
  • The evidence for both is shaky. There are glutamine fans, who say creatine does nothing for them and vice versa. To each their own.
  • Ha. Speak for yourself. Mine don't make me parp!! :drinker: Maybe try an isolate next time?
  • That!! If you want to build a discernible amount of lean mass to make an impact on your metabolism, you need to lift hard.
  • Running with a HRM is the only way to determine what you really burned. As a massively generalised rule of thumb running burns an average 100 calories per mile... BUT this depends on your pace, your weight, whether you take rest breaks, whether it was a hilly or flat run etc etc.
  • It's an opinion I would wholeheartedly disagree with. I take on extra protein and glutamine when I strength train and I know for a fact that it helps my muscle recovery. Of course you need to log it to ensure you still stay within your allocated calorie allowance.
  • I LOVE DOMS. :drinker: It's "good pain". Learn to enjoy it. It'll wear off by itself.
  • Travelled Costa Rica a few years back (alongside Cuba, Columbia etc)... I used to backpack a lot. Lovely lovely country. Hope you get to see some of it despite you being there for work. :flowerforyou:
  • Sometimes when people change their life for the better, it inadvertendly holds a mirror up to others that they are not ready to look into. Sometimes it's pure and simple jealousy. It's not your fault. It's their problem not yours. Such a shame they behave to childishly rather than support you. You'll need to find your…
  • Finally someone!! +1 and thank you for some sense.
  • Alternatively, FORGET everything you THINK you understand about the "fat burning zone". It's largely a myth or at least deeply deeply misinterpreted by people in terms of what it actually means!!!! http://scienceblogs.com/obesitypanacea/2010/06/the_myth_of_the_fat_burning_zo.php
  • Universal produce a great joint supplement stack... http://www.supplementreviews.com/universal/animal-flex
  • oops, sorry about the echo, Pixie.
  • "Fitness" isn't an automatic by-product of youth and a normal BMI.
  • I can increase my resting heart rate and break out in a sweat when I'm shoe shopping provided I'm in the right shop!! Excellent... and extra 200 cals for me!!
  • HAHAHAHA... excellent thread... That old can of worms... On another site I saw "personal grooming" (i.e. shower, toilet stuff, cleaning your teeth, brushing your hair...) as a legitimate calorie-earning acivity to be added to your "exercise" log.... It's just fantastic!!   I do wonder how many…
  • The subtle click of a parked car just about to open their door when you're about a metre away isn't very loud! :drinker:
  • Congratulations on your first mile. And yes it will get easier.... but then you will want to go longer... and faster... so in a way... it doesn't get easier!!
