IMHO, if she's old enough to get hairy pits, she's old enough to learn the 'glorious art' of pit shaving. It's far less traumatic than other hair removals, and they have to learn it eventually. My daughter developed young. Her hair started coming in at 9, and the rest of puberty (periods, boobs, zits, B.O., etc.) hit hard…

Conversation with my (then) five year old girl: "Mommy, what's an ex-boyfriend?" "Well honey, that's when you're breaking up with the boy who is your boyfriend. If he's not your boyfriend any more, then he's your EX-boyfriend. Get it? "Oh...ok then I have an ex boyfriend now!" "Um...no. You're five. You don't have an…

Woah, what a difference! You're looking great! Congrats on your success so far.

Besides junk? Um...pastas. Or cereal. Anything breadlike, really. I've been particularly trying to cut down on carbs in the evening, per a trainers advice, but it's been REALLY hard, and if I cut it out completely it only ends up with me craving them even more. So I have to really measure out and pay attention to my…

That one remake of Phantom of the Opera that had the Phantom as half-masked Gerard Butler (2004). Seriously, if they're making the Phantom the "hot" guy, then they're missing the point entirely. Oh, and the American version of "Death at a Funeral" was terrible. The only good thing about it was that they kept Dinklage in…

Good luck! I'm doing my second 5K on 7/4, so I totally share that excitement. Hope you kick butt at it!

SO far so good. I have mine set at 1.5 lbs a week, and really I only lose about 1 lb a week steadily, but then I'm not the most stringent about measuring out every tiny detail of my food, so my guesses could be off in some cases. If I plateau, it means either 1) I'm not logging everything or 2) my portions are WAY off, and…

I count "light house work" as anything that makes me sweat lightly. If I'm not slightly warm/sweaty at the end of it (i.e. if it's just a single load of laundry or dishes), then I don't bother counting it. If I'm doing some major bathroom scrubbing, gardening, mopping, etc., then yeah, it counts.

Ours is way more low key. Hubby wanted to spend some time hiking with the kids and I, go out for a nice steak dinner and he'll probably want to spend the night playing the new Skyrim game add-on the kids got him (that he doesn't know about yet).

I'm Unitarian/Universalist, which tends to be an anything-goes kind of congregation - but I do lean a little more Christian than my fellow UU's. I just think that there's so many threads of each world religion that have similarities in them, that it points to there being a higher truth out there, that maybe all of us can…

I have Brooks sneakers, and they're the most durable, comfy sneakers I've ever owned. Seriosly, I've gone miles and miles in these, and they're still in good shape. Most good athletic shoe places will have someone who knows how to fit your specific feet to a good pair, though. A little pricier than just grabbing some off…

sugar snap peas, or those really thin organic baby carrots.

Thanks! This was just the kind of thing I was looking for! I guess I was shying away from runners clubs at first, because I'm really out of shape so far (I've lost 40+ lbs, but have 160 to go still, and can so far only manage to walk fast, rather than actually running the courses). I got self-conscious about it, you know?…

I'm gonna make all y'all feel better and say that I WALKED my first 5K last weekend, and it took just over an hour. Doing another this weekend, and hoping to get it under 50 minutes.

No, it's not, because it's not directed specifically at fat people. It's directed at people who are interested in eating healthy (whether they're overweight or not). Many people do care if something is lower in calories, and may specifically want to lose a pound or two (or 20) before swimsuit season, so as long as they're…

Black capri leggings that are snug enough to keep my lower half from causing any seismic distress, but not so snug as too look even remotely hoochie-mama ish, paired with a really supportive Lane Bryant bra, and a loose-fitting tank tunic that's just long enough to cover my gut.

I've lost 20-30 lbs before when I've done it, so for weight loss it's pretty simple to follow and effective. I didn't keep that weight off though, because it is essentially a diet, but I can't blame the program itself for that. It was more an issue of my not addressing the emotional issues that the overeating was a symptom…

Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers Anything from the Disintegration album (Cure) or Violator (Depeche Mode) Junebug or Roam - B-52's Detachable Penis by King Missle (Actually got grounded in high school for recording the video to that one over my stepdad's soap operas) Enter Sandman by Metallica or Silent Lucidity by…

Baby steps are what got me going in the right direction here, too. I know it's overwhelming when you know the road is so long and have so much to lose. I had 200 to lose, and it seemed so hard, so I started with not even dieting at all, but just learning to be honest with myself about my food choices and logging everything…

Cookies, or just about any kind of bready/baked goods, really. God help me if I pass by one of those gourmet cupcake bars.

I've been learning the joys of roasted veggies lately, and love it. I roasted carrots with a mix of cardamom, oil and light butter for Easter. Then I roasted diced russet potatoes with whole garlic cloves and rosemary. Also, roasted broccoli is awesome.

What I was hired to do: Babysitting What I actually did: Babysat til 8, then put them all to bed and stayed up all night watching Headbangers Ball.

Mine was abysmal...it was a 1974 Ford Pinto, white with a blue "racing" stripe (and by 'racing', it must've meant any attempt to get the car going over 45 mph). I was 16, and cleaned the puke off of movie theater floors for a living, so that's what I could afford. One of the back windows was held in with duct tape. It…

I ALMOST used a used breast pump (one of those big electric rental types from the hospital) once, til I saw the disclaimer on the case that said "For Breast Purposes Only". It took me about two seconds of wondering what else someone would use it for, before I put the tube down and bought my own. But back on topic - yeah,…

Yeah, it always helps me step it up when there's some upbeat music to work out to. That, or watching some extreme weight loss show on TV while I cycle (I have a stationary bike in front of the TV). Anything that gets you going! 80's music or just about anything with a solid dance beat usually gets me going.

I think it's better to allow yourself a treat within your calorie guidelines than to deny yourself that treat and set off a cycle of obsessing over it/ giving in to it/ eating too much of it since you feel guilty/ feeling guilty for eating too much/ eat even more to feel better about that/ repeat. There's almost no "bad…

I probably have too MANY hobbies - I sing, play uke/psaltry/djembe/piano/etc., write fiction stories and book reviews online, make beaded jewelry (wirework and bead stringing), and various geeky things like RPG's, card & board games (ie. Apples 2 Apples, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Gimme the Brain, Illuminati), kung-fu…

That's one of my major WL goals, to get thin enough to be able to ride amusement park rides again. Although I know I fit just about everything at Disneyland/Disneyworld now (and did when I was even heavier, at 340 lbs), I don't fit the older theme park stuff like at the SC Boardwalk, where I live. Once my weight went over…

I believed that well into my adult years too - heck, I think a TEACHER even told me as much! But here's a more accurate description of why they look blue: http://scienceblogs.com/scientificactivist/2008/04/17/why-are-veins-blue/

You might know that SOMETHING isn't going right, but you don't always "know" they're cheating. I've been cheated on twice - and once caught my (ex) best friend in bed with my boyfriend of 3 months (Senior year of high school - some pretty epic drama unfurled after that one). Cheating is really just a symptom of something…
