  • I can say that for me it wasn't realistic either. I was always 15lbs or so over weight. I got within 7-8lbs, I looked horrible and felt worse. I ended up recomping and going back up 7-8lbs. With that said....OP, are you really close on tape where a little bloating could make you fail? I usually wouldn't sweat the tape…
  • How would giving up something with zero calories "make a huge difference in weight loss"?
  • I'm not sure about the British Army, but the U.S. Army has Ht/Wt-BF% requirements to hit before being allowed to enlist. What does the British Army say a 5'9" male should be at for Ht/Wt-BF% in order to be allowed to head to training?
  • Or it could be due to the fact that someone shot up a school with an AR-15 yesterday....¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • You honestly think that this is what posters are saying....honestly? Oh...I don't know if I'd advocate chicken breast and salad pre-endurance event.....where's the carbs? I usually go for some pasta of some sort before endurance events.
  • I guess I still don't fully agree. Diets don't work (for some/most people) because they jump on whatever fad diet is currently being chucked around the internet, WAYYYY overly restrict both their caloric intake along with foods they allow themselves to eat never learning how to properly moderate their intake between…
  • Yes, but you also said it shouldn't be part of my diet. Which is it? Once in a while is OK, or it shouldn't be part of a diet. This is what everyone you're arguing with is talking about....context and dosage.
  • Can you please define the difference between the two? A "6 dollar burger" has been part of my "diet" for nearly 20 years. Since I can remember, I've always left room in my "diet" to fit in a fast food meal for my Friday lunch.
  • If we're looking at your diary....why doy you think you'd gain weight? Everyday is basically maintenance, except for one that's close to a 1000 cal deficit..... I also really doubt 2500-2700 is more than most people on this thread too, especially those who are maintaining.
  • Even though I really don't buy that you "packed it on" at 1200-1500 cals..... did you do it in a month? That's what we talking about. Sorry, but it just isn't possible to gain muscle fast enough to offset fast loss, especially when the OP is female and eating as little as she states she is. I'm glad you went from not being…
  • Um....no, no it doesn't. We don't know what kind of "proper" exercise the op is doing (no idea if there's any resistance training), but with that said it's still highly unlikely that muscle is being built fast enough to offset gains, ESPECIALLY with how little the op claims to be eating. It most likely water weight from…
  • That's not true, an kinda comes off uneducated. Dude isn't eating enough if he isn't getting to 1,000-1,200 net calories (ie, less than you). That's less than my 1 year old packs away in a day. I made that cut once on probably 1,000 or so net cals. Did I lose weight, yep. Did I have a 6 pack...yep, did I lose…
  • OP, please do not listen to this. This is not how MFP works and if you're doing as much exercising per day as you claim, 1800 is WAY to little and you're setting yourself up for a huge crash and burn. That's still a ton of "just staying in shape for distance runs". I averaged ~35-37min per day (about 5.25 miles) 4-5 times…
  • 1200 gross, sorry but please see @cwolfman13 's post. If that's true, you'd be under eating and putting a massive stress on your body. It's a real recipe for burnout, or worse, especially at a normal BMI. Odds are, if your logging is correct, you've probably gained some water weight. Eventually it will come off, but…
  • When you say you're eating 1200 calories, is that net or supposed to be gross?
  • Ditto. Usually a 1 min warmup walk. I notice that the people at the gym who do the most elaborate static stretching before running are usually the ones that need to stop every 2-3 min to stretch something out again.
  • And I can't understand how people run outside when it's -25F (-31C) and 30MPH (48KPH), so I learned how to run on a treadmill 6 months a year.
  • ^^^Ditto. I thought your summary was spot on.
  • I know....thank God, am I right. There's so many helpful and knowledgeable people on this site. I've learned so much and figured out what areas l was going wrong in thanks to the knowledgeable posters here.
  • They caricatureize the fitness enthusiast all to perpetuate a stereotype of the gym being full of judgment (but their not) all while being the most judgmental gym around for the all mighty dollar. I'd say the "hate" is pretty well justified, but the marketing plan is genius.
  • Definitely counts, and I'm far faster outside vs in.
  • ^^This, I was about to ask the same thing. What did they lose in "course work" by performing one day from a different "lesson". Does anyone really think the teacher was serious that this is all they'll do the rest of the year? If I had $1 for every time I heard that in middle school....
  • ^^This, and usually it was for one day (and structured via curriculum). If we were screwing around during a game or something, we went to the weight room for the day... I don't see the issue, it wasn't a big deal.
  • No issue with it. We had the same thing in middle school. If we weren't doing what we were supposed to be doing, the class went to the weight room rather than playing; floor hockey, basketball, etc... Not a big deal.
  • Really...?, I think I just saw him sourced the other day, in one of the 54 diet soda is the debil threads.
  • Mercola in 3...2...1...
  • Do you have a link to one of these studies that has debunked "100 times over" that calories aren't the issue?
  • I guess I don't see an issue with that. I tend to seek out the beer tent afterwards, but that's me. Last marathon I ran I had 2 or 3 beers in the last two miles, that's what the frat kids were handing out, it was 85 degrees and the beer was cold... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • ^^^^This. I do this on all of my vehicles and we did it monthly in the military. It's called PMCS (Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services). If I do preventative maintenance to my vehicle....why wouldn't I get a check up every year for my body? Now that sounds bizarre.
