The hardest part of the estimate is that the amount of calories you would have burned if you were not exercing are not taken into account. When I run 30 minutes and do a 5 minute cool down the treadmill may say 429 calories burned but I immediatly reduce it by 50 calories. I did have a full resting metabloic rate test done…

This may seem counterituitive but I set my goal 100 less per day to give me some wiggle room. My target is 2,400 so my goal is 2,300. It works for me!
