  • The only thing I wish I had known before surgery was what they would be "feeding" me at the hospital after surgery. They wanted me to get two eight ounce Unjury protein shakes down per day. I couldn't even get one down. Way too sweet and thick for me. They actually kept me an extra night because I wasn't getting any…
  • I am 3.5 years out and I can drink normally. However, I can just guzzle a whole glass of cold anything. Well I can but I'm very uncomfortable if I do.
  • Yes! I have a space heater under my desk at work and use it all summer. At home the temp is never below 72 unless it's at night and during the day I tend to wear a hoodie or even my big fuzzy bathrobe over whatever I'm wearing. In the summer, we only use the air conditioner because the husband is too warm without it. I…
  • Your fear and sense of panic are normal. I was so afraid that I wouldn't be able to get through 2 weeks on their food and then a week of liquids and lose the 20 pounds they wanted me to lose. I mean, how could I do that when I had failed every other weight loss plan? But it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I think…
  • I drink coffee daily and went back to regular when my surgeon said I could. However, I do know that I need to limit my coffee or I won't get my water in. And no, for anyone who is wondering, it's made with water but does not count towards your water. Also, I can no longer tolerate it plain which is how I drank it before…
  • Oh boy can I relate! I feel like the more weight I lose the uglier I get. The sagging skin that undulates on my arms and legs when I walk and the sagging skin on my neck and face that make me look so old. And maybe that's why I allowed myself to gain back 10 pounds through the holidays. At least fat, the skin didn't sag…
  • At 3.5 years out I have had the occasional glass of wine and even a few sips of the Apple Pie Moonshine a friend gave me for Christmas. I've even had a little beer, but it all goes to my head so fast that if I'm driving, I don't drink at all. Frankly, the empty calories just don't feel worth it to me. I can be just as…
  • True and this term used by sleeve patients always confuses me. But, the idea behind the test is the same for bypass and sleeve patients. It helps to reset our minds and a little bit our stomaches. It's a great back to basics tool.
  • Don't forget water. If you are not getting your water in daily, that slows and sometimes adds to the stall. Everything else said here is right on track. Back to basics will get you where you want to be.
  • Great work!!!
  • I was sleeved 3.5 years ago, lose slow and stall often, not yet to goal. I gaines 10 pounds Thanksgiving through Jan. 1 and there is only one reason. I was eating out of control again. I do not in any way blame it on the holidays. So far, I've lost 5 of that 10, working on the rest and then on to goal eventually.
  • What surgery did you have? I had the gastric sleeve and my doctor told me I could outeat the sleeve but because he removed all the stretchy, I could not restretch it. He also said I would be able to eat more over time naturally, but not because of restretch. At 3.5 years out I can still only get in 4-5 ounces of meat at…
  • My pre-op was 2 weeks of the program's non-surgical weight loss program food and 2 weeks of liquid. They wanted 20 pounds off before surgery to shrink the liver making the surgery easier. I was amazed at how easy it was and that I could really lose that 20! I know now it was because it was all so high protein. :D
  • This is a great idea. I didn't take before pictures although I do have pictures from like a year before surgery when I weighed the same as when I started. I used them, but anyway, I look forward to watching you shrink my friend!!
  • This! Shamed isn't productive and isn't helping you. You had a blip but you can get it off again. I'm down 5 of the 10 I gained over the holidays. So work it off with me. We can do this! Pat
  • I also have fine hair, but had a lot of it. I thinned several years ago during what my doctor referred to as "an severely stressfull time". I won't go into details of what the stress was, but my docotr said the thinning then was caused by the unusually high stress level for a prolonged period. Stress hormones basicly…
  • I do 20 reps of 7 different Pilates moves. All are "weight" work because I am using my body weight and resistance bands as the "weight" that I am then moving (think pulling yourself forward with your arms or pushing yourself along with your feet while resistance bands are holding you in place). And 2 of the moves are…
  • I agree, without the protein for fuel the body can hang onto the weight because it feels like it's starving. Add to that increased liquids and you could be retaining and/or constipated. When it lets go and you start losing, it will be fast. Just wait for it.
  • I too would love to have all those things done. Look forward to hearing what you find out including prices.
  • Very interesting and well worth $40. Was that your part of the cost after insurance or the total cost?
  • I eat 1,000-1,100 calorie per day and 70-80 grams of protein. But remember, I am 3.5 years out now. I also have another 62 pounds to goal. Ask you nutritionist what you should be eating calorie and protein wise. They are the experts.
  • Depends on the surgery. I had the sleeve, so all the stretchy was removed (per my doctor) and if I overeat I will be very uncomfortable and may very well lose the "too much". I did much better once I found my "full cue", which for me is feeling like I need to burp. Once I feel that, I have to stop eating or I will be…
  • The strength training on MFP doesn't really show much calorie burn even though I know I am burning calories doing my pilates. I will have to look at the circut training and see if it's adaptable to my pilates. It would be nice to see a better calorie burn for the effort, well if I am burning more calories that is.
  • Because of the damage to my lower spine and the arthritis in my lower spine, hips, knees, ankles, feet, I too am slightly limited in what I can and cannot do. In the beginning at 386 pounds, even walking was hard and like you I couldn't do more than 20 minutes at a time. So, once I hit 300 pounds I rewarded myself with a…
  • Congratulations on your surgiversary and that 80 pound loss! I applaud your determination to not regain. I don't know if it's nitpicking to want that last 10 pounds off. The idea of being that close to goal but not quite there, well it's understandable that you would want to hit goal. I have about 60 pounds to go and I…
  • I weighed 386 and was 55 when I had my surgery 3.5 years ago. At first the weight just fell off and then at 9 months I hit a stall. After that the weight loss has been sporadic and slow. Per my surgical team, part of this is my lack of exercise (arthritis and injury), part that some people lose slower naturally and part of…
  • Hi, I am 3.5 years out. Highest weight 386, lowest 222, current is 228 (re-gained 10 over the holidays-totally off track & no excuses). My personal goal is to be below 200 somewhere. If I get all the way to my "ideal" weight (160) great, if not, I'm OK with that too just as long as it's below 200. My doctor said he thought…
  • I am 3.5 years out now and yes, it does get better. Once I learned my full cue, I stopped being sick and feeling bad after a meal. I would strongly suggest thinned out protein shakes and Isopure Zero (protein water, counts for both) so you can start getting in your protein. And try really hard to get your water in as well.…
  • Hi. I was sleeved 3.5 years ago and other than losing slowly and stalling often, this has gone about the way I expected it to. The only thing I would have changed is what I was given in the hospital for nutrition after the surgery. I am more of a savory person, prefer food to sweets 99% of the time. After surgery they gave…
