  • I keep calories for evening snacking as well. I think as long as you are getting enough protein in your lighter calorie meals during the day and trying to avoid junk eating at night you should continue to be fine. Evidence of this is your loss of the regain. As usual, you seem to know what works best for you. Good job…
  • And this is me, but with a 160+ weight loss! The frustrating part for me is that, per the doctor, if we were to remove all the loose skin, I would be at goal. So what does that mean? That I'm now in maintenance whether I want to be or not because as far as my body is concerned, it's at goal, so it's done. But my scale…
  • My husband has been super supportive. He will exercise with me and he cooks our dinner meal most days because my hours are opposit his and if he wants to eat before work, he can't wait for me to get home and cook. He cooks to my needs, but since he's really more of a meat and potatoes kind of guy, this works for him. We…
  • I had my sleeve 4.5 years ago. My weight loss was never consistent. I would lose and then nothing for a few days and then lose some more. So two things. One, it's way too early in the process to freak out. Trust your sleeve and the program. Follow what the doctor/nutritionist says for calories and protein amounts. Two, do…
  • My doctor told me the store brand are fine once you heal enough to swallow whole pills again. So that's what I do, all vitamins and suppliments I buy with groceries.
  • I lived on Ungery chicken and beef broth in this phase. Really high protein, and unlike canned soups, low fat and sodium. I really didn't like the shakes at that point, too sweet and too thick. That broth, being protein infused and all, and not sweet was great!
  • Awesome year my friend!
  • Thaeda! You are such a good friend, encourager and motivator! I really appreciate you so very much!
  • I'm 4 years out and I can tell you that the more sugar/sweets you eat the easier it gets. Please know, I say this as a WARNING to all newbies. Don't push the limits. Let it stay hard to stomach sweets. Makes it easier to stay away from them if you continue to have problems eating them. You know?
  • Great results and progress! You are doing wonderful Paul! Congrats!!
  • Every time I need some sound words you post! I sweat it! I am still struggling to come to terms with being at maintenance without actually hitting goal. Accepting that getting 71% of my excess weight off might be as good as it gets is hard for me, but then you post here about being kind to yourself and being a peace with…
  • Happy Birthday! And what a great way to get rid of majority of the sweet treat! You are so smart!
  • Awesome!

  • I am 4.5 years out and my nut bumped me to 1,200 calories per day. Still 70-90 grams of protein and now more than 100 carbs, but better less. I'm probably still under eating per the nut, could be why I haven't lost anything in a year. Follow what they tell you because the truth is they know.
  • I add it to my coffee, but take a 1/2 scoop, ad a little water to make a slurry and add that to the coffee. Works well.
  • I had the sleeve 4.5 years ago. Once healed, I was back to eating "normal" food and taking my normal meds. The only real difference post op, again once healed, is the lifetime restriction. I still can't get in more than a cup to 1.5 cups of food depending on what it is. Protein dense food fills me quickly. So really, the…
  • Of course! I had to lose 20 pounds pre-op (shrink the liver, makes the surgery easier) and did. It wasn't hard and I started thinking that I would just continue on my surgeon's non-surgical plan. But as he pointed out, if I had been able to lose it and keep it off anytime in my life, that might be a good plan. He was…
  • Yup. Too much sugar will do the same thing to me, I feel almost sick to my stomach. By the way, I'm 4.5 years out. One more thing, I've found that the more of that kind of thing I eat, the easier it is, so don't push it or your natural restriction to sugary food will go away. Personally I like having it because I tend to…
  • I have arthritis and a compressed disk in my lower back. Losing 160 pounds has pretty much eliminated the daily pain. I really don't feel the pain in the back, hips, knees or feet 99% of the time anymore. As for the pain relievers, one of the reasons I chose the sleeve is the ability to take those pain meds you mention.…
  • Thanks for the link! I will check it out.
  • Per my nutritionist I am to eat 1,200 calories, 70-90 grams or protein and keep my carbs below 100. I will tell you that I don't work out much. I do walk almost daily, and I mean I walk for exercise, I don't count normal walking around the house/office as exercise. I'm not losing, although I want to get at least another 30…
  • Wow! Awesome insight and so much what I needed to hear. As I continue to struggle with if I am done losing or not, do I accept what the PA told me about how I would be at goal if we took all the excess skin off, do I schedule the tummy reconstruction and be done with losing, this messages sooths my sense of "this is one…
  • I work at a desk job and I took the full two weeks. A friend who had the band told me he rushed back to work after the first week and felt it hurt him because he didn't really get the food requirements set in his mind before adding back the job. He told me to take the whole 2 weeks and be sure I was comfortable with my new…
  • I was told that most people bounce up about 10 pounds when they go into maintenance. No personal experience here, just relaying what I was told. I have a local friend who was sleeved and she did this. She looks so much better with that 10 pounds, and she told me she could not sustain that lower weight, but is sustaining…
  • Congrats! Can't wait to watch your success!
  • I had an easy recovery and although I have the husband, he really didn't need to help me with anything. I think as long as you have a support system in place "in case of" you should be fine.
  • I agree with ThinGwen, schedule it but make your bariatric surgeon aware of it all and then consult with your GP or PCP if you like and trust him/her. If your regular doctor or the bariatric surgeon think you should postpone then do it. And her advice about HR and your boss are right on too. I had the sleeve 4 years ago. I…
  • I don't rely just on the scale, but also on how the clothes and rings fit. I tend to retain water easily and sometimes that alone will add a few pounds. If the hands are puffy and the rings tight, that's my indication it's water rather than fat. If however the waistband on my new jeans is snug. That's gain. I check the…
  • Mine does too, but more with higher carb foods. No pain, just kind of growl like noises.
