  • I don't remember side pain at all. But then I had gall bladder removal before they could do it laproscopically and it was horrible compared to every other surgery including my sleeve. As for the noises and gurgles, that's normal and most likely nothing to worry about. I had no dairy issues, but I would get pain if I ate…
  • I had the sleeve but will get that slimy feel or actually throw up if I eat too fast or too much. So eating out I am very careful to eat slowly and the minute I feel like I need to burp, I'm done. I always, always, always say something when my meal is delivered like "that's a lot of food, I will need a box for sure!" That…
  • True! Only for me it's Sam's Club! :-)
  • Lori, I am so sorry for your loss. I want to say here that everyone needs time to grieve, so don't be too tough on yourself. It sounds to me like it's time to put your grief a little to the side and start taking care of yourself again. What a great husband to gently prod you in the right direction and that he would use…
  • ssbeadlady and Jreedy, we are all of an age! I had my surgery 4 years ago at age 55. Not divorced, actually coming up on our 41st anniversary next month, but other than that, we all sound similar.
  • I'm 4 years out and take omeprazole daily. I had acid reflux for probably 20 years, getting sleeved didn't change that. I take mine in the AM but have found since the sleeve that certain foods may set off heartburn as will when I eat. So I avoid red sauces (spaghetti, marinara, etc.) and stop eating about an hour before…
  • One thing I learned early was my "full cue". It's not the same for everyone and the person who turned me on to this said hers is when she starts hiccupping. Well I found out that by the time I start hiccupping I'm overfull and need to throw up. For me, the full cue is when I feel like I need to burp and if I don't stop…
  • One of my cousins had RNY and had warned me that even though I did the sleeve, lack of protein would make the hair loss way worse. She recommended a supplement (Biotin or Hair, Skin & Nails) and that if I couldn't get enough protein in to go to GNC and get "protein shots" (not shot with a needle, shot you drink). She said…
  • I had my sleeve 4 years ago this month. It is very overwhelming in the beginning and yes there are lots of changes, but please know, this does become the "new normal" in your life as you recover from the surgery and make the changes that then become the habits. Yes I still plan my food for the day and I weigh and measure…
  • I'm with Janet, my favorite is also Syntrax Nectar products, especially the Cappuccino flavor. I have recently used the GNC Lean products and they are OK, but Syntrax has a better flavor selection. Right after surgery I couldn't drink the protein shakes, they were just too sweet and thick. I lived on the Unjury chicken and…
  • Funny! Had the same kind of thing last year. When my license needed to be renewed last summer I went in and insisted on a new picture. I had three different stores question if that was really me when doing a credit card transaction (I seriously love it when they ask to see ID!). One place told me to get the license picture…
  • I was told to avoid eggs for about the first 6 months as they are very dense and harder to digest than other food. In that stage I was pretty much taking regular food and running it through the blender with some broth. Whatever the husband was eating protein wise is what I used (well other than his beloved hot dogs). So…
  • Comfy pants and shoes/sandals. You will be walking a lot and the track pants I took along with my Birkenstock sandals made walking the floor much more comfortable. I took my IPad to read and an afghan I was working on, but never touched them as if I wasn't walking I was sleeping.
  • This exactly! If it's in my house I will eat it.
  • Imboswell, I too have additional family staying with me temporarily. It's not easy and does cost a little more. Part of what helps is preplanning meals so I can utilize the crockpot, cook ahead, etc. I too work full time although I am closer to the office than you are and I do have help with the cooking at home, I insist…
  • You got a lot closer to goal than I did when I lost my focus and gained. My only advice to you is, go back to following the plan. Weigh and measure, get your protein and water in, pre-plan all your food for the day and stick to the plan. You've come way too far to go backwards now.
  • I am 4 years out and part of the reason I chose the sleeve is this very thing. True, at first you need to fully chew food, more than "normal", but once healed, it's really business as usual. I was swallowing whole pills within a week of surgery, one at a time and usually with 10-15 minutes between, Now I can take multiple…

  • I didn't notice it so much post surgery, but then I've always retained water very easily, still do. My sister has chronic edema and her leg specialist told her to walk for at least 20 minutesat a time, twice a day and keep her feet elevated when sitting. So that's the advice I follow. Walking really helps move the fluid.…
  • I am 4 years out and I can only get in about 3-4 ounces at once. And yes, even that is slightly unconfortable. Sipping is much better still.
  • I love this one! :D

  • I've had a variety of surgeries through the years and my VSG was by far the easiet one to recover from. Yes there can be complications, but you vastly reduce that possibility by following the doctor's orders and program completely. From what I've seen and heard, it's the folks who modify the program restrictions (like…
  • Moonjewel, I started this at 386. So far I've lost 164 pounds and still working to get below 200. Don't look at the total you need to lose. Break it down into smaller goals. When I thought about needing to lose 220 pounds, well it was a mountain I couldn't see over. But when I thought about getting below 300, well that…
  • Yes. My PCP tired to discontinue my Prilosec, a test to see if the acid reflux had been eliminated with the WLS which he said sometimes happens. After 2 days of what you described we decided I still have acid reflux. I will most likely be on Prilosec or it's generic form the rest of my life. PS - I found that if I stop…
  • Weeziebeth, I too love the new pic! As for talking to him, maybe he picked up on the issue or maybe someone else did and said something. Either way, speaking to him directly is a call only you can make.
  • I eat salad almost daily for lunch. I add a variety of things to the lettuce: -homemade chicken salad (no dressing necessary with this one), grape tomatoes, feta cheese, pine nuts -diced chicken/turkey, greek salad dressing, feta cheese. grape tomatoes, onion, green pepper -diced ham, bolthouse farms ranch dressing (made…
  • I've looked at Amazon but never ordered the Syntrax from them. I should really try that sometime. Thanks!
  • I prefer the Syntrax Nectar brand for flavor. But I since GNC is closer than my doctor's office and has more convenient hours, I deceided to try their brand in the Lean Burn and regular meal replacement. I got the cookies and cream in the lean burn and hated the flavor! But I bought a huge jar so decided I would have to…
  • I have had only one issue and that was a pain med given to me at the med center when my knee flaired up. I told them repeatedly that I am a bariatric patient and they still gave me something you do not perscribe to bariatric patients. When I saw the ortho guy the next day and he reveiwed what they gave me, he was furious…
  • What a journey you have had! Congratulations on everything! Roller Skates? That sounds like great fun!! Keep posting so we can see how well you do with all this.
