MFP sets your calories at a minimum of 1200 calories and you are encouraged to eat a "net" 1200/day. Net meaning you eat 1200 calories plus whatever calories you burned through exercise. However, some people will eat a straight 1200 calories and their exercise calories are used to further their weight loss. From my…

MFP doesn't include exercise. MFP encourages you to eat your exercise calories back. Bottom line- If you only have 20lb's to lose, it's tough to calorie restrict enough to lose more than a pound/week. However, if you exercise and don't eat your calories back, you'll do better. Hope this helps. BTW... If you did well on…

Just get back to it! Pick up where you left off. It's a new day. Even if you just maintain, it's better to be mindful and keep off the weight. You've worked too hard to give up now! Can you imagine going through all of that work and deprivation all over again to just get here again? This is what I tell myself when I get…

Ok... So still short on my goal this week. I lost 1.8 lbs. I'm not sure if my goal of 2 lbs/week is too lofty or maybe I just need more intense workouts. I battle with the idea of "feeling good and having good energy," or working really hard and getting to my goal faster. I think I'm leaning towards balance now. I hope…

Well... I'm a nurse. So all I have to do is go to work to be reminded why being overweight is so unhealthy. I'm like you though. I feel so much better after losing 26 lbs. Sometimes, I would like to take a few weeks off and just maintain. Losing weight is so restrictive and requires a significant amount of discipline. I…

I lost 1.4 lbs this week. My goal is 2 lbs/week so I'm a little disappointed. However, my birthday was this week and I ate a fatty high calorie meal with drinks and didn't exercise that day. Plus I started weight lifting this week, so my cardio has slowed a bit. I think this next week will be better. I'm still up for the…

I started working out on the elliptical last month and have worked up to 1- 1.5 hours/day on it 4-5 x week. So far it's really helped my weightloss and I'm committed to it. However, today I joined a gym and the trainer instructed me to limit my cardio to 25 minutes on the days I lift. Something about burning muscle instead…

I would love to join this challege. I want to lose 40 lbs. I know it's a hefty goal, but I'm really motivated and I need to see an end in sight. I'll add my picture soon. I love this challenge!

I just read an article about a girl with a similar problem. Here is the link....http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/weight-loss/success-stories/ I'll include the story here: Getting the Scale to Move The Game Plan For eight weeks my support team would help me do what I hadn't managed to in six months: jump-start my motivation…

Log everything and buy a pedometer. You'll be surprised how this cheap tool can help motivate you to be more active. The easiest way is to let MFP set your goals initially. After you become a pro, you can adjust it. Eat plenty of lean protein and drink water to stave off hunger. The first few weeks, I really struggled with…

I'm in... I'd like to do 80 miles. I'm not sure how to set up a ticker.

I'm overweight now, and I can tell you without a doubt that fad diets work. But It has never gotten me anything except temporary results. I love that you are striving for a permanent healthy solution. Stay committed to this. You will be healthier and more stable in the long run. Have you thought about talking to a…

Have you tried substituting better choices? For example: a lean cuisine pizza, a weight watcher ice cream, or ezekial bread? I started with these changes and now I'm eating fruit for desert and skipping the pizza all together.... I'm still new to this, but every week is a little easier than the last. The little research…

I live about 20 minutes south of Fort Worth. I'm an emotional eater and when I lost someone I loved two years ago, I gained a whopping 75 lbs. Sooo... now I have a long way back to health. So far I've lost 15 lbs in about 7 weeks. I'm encouraged. However, I've only lost 1 lb/week the last four weeks, and I'd really like to…

I don't lift yet. I recently bought an elliptical machine and I've been using it faithfully, but I'm struggling to start a beginner strengthening program. I understand why it's so important, but I don't want to go to the gym. Any advice for creating a cheap home program for strengthening?
