I'm a 59 year old grandma who has to stick to 1200 calories for good weight loss. You should be doing at least 1800 calories unless you're only 4 ft tall.

A deck size portion of meat is 3 oz - don't need to weigh that. I know what each of my bowls measure: 1/2 cup for the small ones and 1 1/2 cup for the big ones. I eat as many vegetables as I want. 1 oz of cheese is not very much cheese (unfortunately)! Fat and nuts are the sneaky high calorie ones - I usually use…

You look awsome!

It helps when I eat less or nothing for breakfast and most of my calories at dinner. Example - 400 calorie lunch, 200 calorie afternoon snack, 800 calorie dinner. This is a form of intermittent fasting (see MFP group) called 16:8 because you only eat during an 8 hour period.

How much did Pop Tarts pay you to try and post your little experiment???

I have noticed that even though strength training doesn't burn near as many calories as the HIIT exercise I do, it makes me hungrier- Perhaps because I am newer to weight lifting. I added a whey protein shake to my menu - it is very filling and the extra protein seems to help.

I always cut 10-50% of my time working out, plus if I think the exercise calories are still too high, I reduce them down (for example from 320 to 300). That way my food diary doesn't tell me I have a lot of calories left over when I know I don't. I think the older you are, the less you should eat back exercise calories.

I have black coffe for breakfast, a 200 calorie whey shake for lunch, and almost anything I want for dinner as long as it includes 6 oz of protein and 2 cups veggies. Love it!

This thread is so encouraging. I would welcome friends who are doing Intermittent Fasting with open food diaries (who actually record their food!)

It doesn't make any difference. It's the averages that count. You should check out the intermittent fasting group. Some people restrict their eating to 8 or less hours a day to keep their calotie count down.

Thank you Granny May- such helpful information on your links! -

Mine says "I can't believe this old fat lady is working out so hard."

I have never succeeded with daily calorie restriction. I tried eat stop eat but never found it easy. It is weirdly easier to do a semi fast EOD. My appetite has shrunk on the eat days also. Plus the author Dr Varady is also a researcher with 10 years of studies under her belt. I find her tips and research extremely…

I prefer olive oil and vinaigrette dressings with lots of herbs. I found out that by adding high quality juice (like pomegranate) 50% vinaigrette and 50% juice , I cut the calories almost in half and it still tastes delicious. I also make sesame green godess dressing. I C low fat plain yogurt 1/4 C olive oil 1/4 C lemon…

Did you measure in the same bra? I have different bust measurements with different bras.

You're right a hot bath is awesome!

I exercise very hard at the gym on my up days (I might only list 45 minutes of exercise but it is usually 75 minutes), but I find vigorous exercise on my fast days makes me very hungry.

There is a high that comes from intense exercise in a fasted state that decreases hunger and increases one's energy for hour. This is due to a boost of hormones that naturally increase from fasting and exercise. "Intermittent fasting for periods ranging from 12-24 hours along with high intensity exercise has a positive…

This is the philosophy of http://www.fat2fitradio.com/ which I think you would enjoy.

MFP won't let me edit my previous post, but I would like to add I am especially interested in friends who are doing some sort of intermittent fasting or HIIT

My goals are to continue what I started in December: Workout HARD 2-3 hours a week (walking was not doing it for me) Continue logging calories-netting about 1600 a day Over 50 friends who want to be my friends and keep me accountable are welcome. You must have an open food diary.

I have 50 pounds to lose, and when I added hi it to my walking (jogging) it injured my knees. Now I do hi it on an elliptical, exercise bike, or swimming.

Instant oatmeal is a highly processed food. The carbohydrate absorption is slower with rolled oats. The phytic acid is released in the grains while soaked. So when you pour off the soaking water and rinse the oatmeal, it goes down the sink instead of into your body. Soaking and fermenting grains is THE traditional way (ie…

Oh! That explains why I am seeing clothes advertisements lately since I have been looking for a new outfit online. Duh!
-
There seem to be a number of grocery store and diet gimmick advertisers, so somebody is making money on it!
-
Thanks for all the recipes. I love kale chips and have always wanted to make them!

You look wonderful!

Beautiful ! How did you do it?

I think the TDEE numbers are off the older you are. It seems to work OK for the younger people. I notice they seem to have the most success with it. I've tried different sites and different settings (sedentary to moderately active) 2200-2500. I would certainly gain weight at these. 1800-2000 seems to be my max. The BMR may…
