Insulin load formula
This is a cool formula I found (for geeks) on Optimizing Nutrition to find out the insulin load of what you are eating which is really more accurate in understanding blood sugar levels than just counting carbs. insulin load = carbohydrates (g) – fibre (g) + 0.56 x protein (g) So on 1/22 - I ate 1600 calories - 114 grams of…

Documentary : Fat vs Sugar
Fat vs Sugar is on PBS right now - West Coast time. I'll give a review later. Still on - I have a feeling Coca Cola paid for this documentary. So I looked up the Diet Dr take on this and got a much better perspective. I no longer recommend this lol. http://www.dietdoctor.com/sugar-vs-fat-on-bbc-which-is-worse

This is one of the best articles I've read on the benefits of exercise.

Fasting Methods
Hi, I thought I would let you know of some of the different Intermittent Fasting Methods that I have tried: Every Other Day diet by Dr Varady - Dr Varady is a respected researcher and author. Her method is to eat whatever you want one day and 500 calories on the alternative fast days. Her studies show that people usually…

A Poem for this Forum
Embracing Bitterness Embracing the bitter - forsaking the sweet or embracing the bitter - and truly tasting the sweet? Like coffee black and chocolate 85% dark. Like arugula, kale, broccoli rabe, mustard greens, and chicory dressed with vinegar and oil. Healing herbs stimulate digestive biles - cleanse the blood from…

Where do you buy your meat?
I'm trying to eat lower carb: I've gone from about 140 grams a day to about 70 grams and want to go lower. However meat is quite a bit more expensive than the lentils and chickpeas I am used to eating. Any advice?

"The Every Other Day diet" article
This diet is basically JUDD under a different name. An interesting article this month in The Atlantic about its effectiveness. http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2014/01/the-new-way-to-love-food/283276/ What I found particularly interesting is Dr Varney says that they have found that the 5:2 diet, or Eat Stop Eat…

How to look like Naomie Campbell
Naomi Campbell does a juice detox 3 x's a week. Which is probably about 400 calories a day (my estimate). I don't know if that is inspiring or not. But I have finally figured out that whatever diet plan a person adopts to lose weight will probably have to be followed in some form for the rest of one's life. So we might as…

1600-1700 calories a day
I am curious if there are any baby boomers losing weight at 1600-1700 calories a day. That is what I have been averaging this week. With my hour of exercise a day, supposedly this brings me down to almost 1200 net calories which should give me a 2# weight loss per week. However, I have never eaten this many calories to…

Are there any JUDDers who keep food diaries?
It seems like none of my JUDD friends keep food diaries for some reason. Friend me if you do please! My diary is open to my friends, and I rarely skip a day. In it you can see the good, the bad, and the ugly! Not much JUDDing though lol.

Study on food journal improve weight loss
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center did a study that showed food journals increase weight loss. Skipping meals actually decreases weight loss. https://www.fhcrc.org/en/news/releases/2012/07/want-to-lose-weight--keep-a-food-journal--don-t-skip-meals-and-a.html

Have you consistently lost 1# a week for over 6 months?
I have been losing 1# every 7 - 10 days for the last 2 months. I have my weight loss set at 2#s per week but I find it hard to maintain 1200 calories a day. (If I ate back exercise calories, I would never lose weight!) I usually average 1500-1600 calories. I am wondering how many people with 50 + pounds to lose have kept…

Sunday Blessing!
“But that’s not all! We gladly suffer, because we know that suffering helps us to endure. And endurance builds character, which gives us a hope” Romans 5:3-4 CEV May we endure in our weightloss journey for the week, and give thanks to the Lord for his goodness towards us!

Primal/Paleo Costs?
I'd love to go primal/paleo to add to my intermittent fasting, but I'm afraid I can't afford it. I eat pastured eggs (from a local backyard farmer), and I prefer to eat only naturally raised meat which means a lot of soup, example my 1# naturally raised chuck steak made 4 large serving of soup for me (with lots of veggies…

Has anybody here cut 100 calories a day for and lost weight?
A friend just posted this story, and I wondered if there were any MFPers who have tried this and suceeded (or failed)! Cut 100 Calories a Day -- Lose 10 Pounds a Year The last thing you want to do right about now is go on a diet. (Okay, it's pretty much the last thing you want to do ever.) Luckily you can zap the bulge…

How are baby boomers losing weight?
I started intermittent fasting June 26 and I have lost 9 pounds since then. (With 1 week off for bad behavior). I was hoping to have lost 20 pounds in 2 months, but that is not happening! Friday I switched to alternate day fasting which I think I prefer to ESE (fasting 2- 24 hours a week). Every other day goal calories are…
