Not. Your LDL is high. Your HDL is low. I'm not a doc, but check out this site for the details:

Your LDL is not good (too high) and your HDL is slightly low.

Your cholesterol ratio does place you in a High Risk category. HDL is your healthy cholesterol and you should make it a priority to keep your HDL levels HIGH. Your HDL cholesterol is in the normal/acceptable range, but you should try to raise your HDL. Get your HDL level up by taking around 2,000Mg daily of high quality fish oil (I recommend http://www.nordicnaturals.com/en/Products/Product_Details/514/?ProdID=1428).

If your Doctor is recommending to Rx you on to statins, you need to seriously consider the effects this has on your body. Statins can do more harm than benefit.

Also, once you get your HDL levels up, ask your doctor to do a new Lipids panel on you and rather than doing the calculated test (standard procedure) for your LDL, have him run a complete workup and specifically ask for a VAP panel. The VAP is a true count on your cholesterol workup. The VAP will also separate and categorize the type of LDL cholesterol you have (whether you have the kind that puts your at risk for heart disease, or the big fluffy particles of Type A that are good).

My family has a history of high cholesterol from my dad's side. My cholesterol level is always over 200. But my ratio's are all in check and considered 'Ideal'/healthy. My grandparents both have 'high cholesterol' and are in their 90's and kicking it in great health (slowing down some) and my dad is in his 60's with 'high cholesterol'. So even if one has high cholesterol, their ratio's can still be healthy.

In Summary though, get your cholesterol in check so you have a balanced ratio that is ideal!
