Embracing Bitterness

Embracing the bitter - forsaking the sweet
or embracing the bitter - and truly tasting the sweet?

Like coffee black and chocolate 85% dark.
Like arugula, kale, broccoli rabe, mustard greens, and chicory dressed with vinegar and oil.
Healing herbs stimulate digestive biles - cleanse the blood from defilement.

Bitterness makes the lowliest strawberry sweet. Every nut becomes a treat. Taking away the grains that fatten, that fortress our bodies against the snow. Stripping away all unnecessary sauces that tempt and breads that comfort.
Eating the fat, the marrow, the meat. Drinking the broth from bones long boiled, and eating the bitter bitter greens. Our souls find sweetness in survival, in the passing of each day, unadorned by frivolous cakes and candies. Unadorned by mindless amusements, unadorned by baubles.
We relish the muscle, the flesh, the clean. We esteem strength over weakness. We are simple, hard, survivalists among the tawdry. Make a way; for here we come.

    But I'll keep a few mindless amusements around. They're soothing. Although for the past few days I have been strangely unenthusiastic about my video game collection. I'm a little worried...
