I think the problem is that Dan has about 500 friends. But I'd be willing to turn it off for $20.

"Research has shown that ≈20% of overweight individuals are successful at long-term weight loss when defined as losing at least 10% of initial body weight and maintaining the loss for at least 1 y. The National Weight Control Registry provides information about the strategies used by successful weight loss maintainers to…

This is an excellent article. Thank you for sharing it. I think it show that our weight loss goals should be tempered by our age not by our high school weight.

Hair loss is usually caused by a LACK OF PROTEIN.

I've been taking a dieting break for a couple of weeks, eating maintenance, and most of my extra calories are all carbs (when dieting I eat under 100 grams of carbs a day). I've decided that yes - eating carbs does increase my appetite and yes - carbs do give me more energy - I've been doing lots of physical labor. I need…

There is gardening on the cardio/exercise section. I think the calories burned is way too high though. i usually record only a quarter of them. It also depends on how high you have your daily activity level. I go from "sedentary" in the winter to "lightly active." It is better to put less rather than more in activity and…

I did the every other day diet for 2 weeks - I lost 5#s. I found it difficult to eat only 500 calories on the down days. I probably ate about 2600 on my up days which is 300-400 over maintenance for me. I am now eating 1600 calories a day and losing 1# a week (with lots of exercise). Sometimes I limit my eating window to…

Hi all - Thank you Barbie cat for this thread & DamitJanit I love your motto. I lost 4 pounds in May (YAY). Goal 1- I hope to lose 4-6 pounds in June. I've eating about 1600 calories a day and not finding it to be too much of a challenge. I'm considering trying a week or two of keto to see if I could lose faster. I get…

I'm 59 yrs old and started strength training and HIIT 6 months ago 2-3 times a week for 40 minutes. (I've always walked for exercise before.). I've lost 20 #s and am back at the weight I was 3 years ago. However I took my measurements. My waist is 2 1/2 inches smaller and my chest is 2 inches smaller than I was at the same…

@Brittany I used to drink 3 or 4 cups of coffee a day with 1/2 n 1/2 and sugar - Too many calories. Now I drink my morning coffee black with water and only treat myself with my afternoon coffee. 50 extra calories a day I can handle. I also think I am less hungry when I don't start my day with sugar. PS I always add…

Wow Good job!

Granny May - Valerian is a pretty powerful herb. It would probably make me sleepy. I love magnesium citrate and take it almost every day- I make my own pills with capsules bought from Super Supplements and magnesium from the natural food store. It really helps my achy muscles

NSV today - I am 3#s heavier than 2012 (the last time I lost 20+ pounds); however, after 6 months of HIIT & weight lifting my waist is 2.5 inches smaller and my chest is 2 inches smaller. My "generous" hips are the same.

I lifted heavy on Friday, and now I am up 2 pounds. Water in my sore sore muscles.

You've done so well. I like your diet advice too. Thank you!

Diet is more important than exercise! http://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2015/05/15/take-off-that-fitbit-exercise-alone-wont-make-you-lose-weight/?postshare=8571431868076392&tid=sm_fb

You are gorgeous!

@Fancy, you are an inspiration. Have you been following a program besides strong lifts? I've been doing strength training at the gym - 15 minutes twice a week. I'm afraid if I start lifting heavy my weight loss will stop. @tngram2seven I have taught mostly mostly at community colleges (English) and university (English as a…

I have a new blog on "The Beauty of Tracking" if anyone is interested. If you read it, vote for me! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/fastforlife1

@SCC - I love your chart. I keep one too. It helps to remind me that despite the occasional "ups," I'm on a downward trend. Last week I lost 2#s. This week I gained 1# - of course I've also been over my calorie goal every day. I am proud of myself though because Tues I took a kickbox class (it totally kicked my *kitten*),…

The less a person weighs the lower his/her metabolism will be. So no matter how a person diets if s/he loses 50 pounds his/her metabolism will be slower. Also according to Dr Varady,, who has done a lot of research on this topic, people who were once obese will have a slightly lower metabolism than their weight…

Such a good article, and I have to believe that when I am working out really hard and panting, those calories are flying out!

Good Job Nill!!

@SLL & @HSmith - IF and HIIT have lowered my fasting glucose to 85 - before it was 99. (Nor bad for a 59 year old who still has 50 pounds to lose). When working out in a fasted state, the body's glucose has already been depleted, so the body draws its energy from fat. If nothing else the hormone blast and the high that…

Hi my new blog http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/fastforlife1 tells of my experiences with Intermittent Fasting and gives a brief description of different types. Whatever plan you choose, calories count. I think the Warrior Plan is the most effective for weight loss, but I usually eat 1000-1400 calories in a 6 hour window 5…

2500 calories is awfully high to lose weight.

High Intensity Interval Training is the best way to burn calories in the shortest time doing aerobic exercise. Dr Mercola has some excellent videos on how it works.

I've been afraid to join this thread because it is always so long! However, I lost 4#s in April so YAY me. (5#s in both February and March too.) I would really like to lose at least 6#'s this month. However, I will take 4 or 5! Any other ladies trying to do 1200-1400 calories a day (with open food diaries only!) friend me!…
