  • I agree with the other posters. The underlying issue is that you need to believe in yourself and your ability to overcome minor "blips" in your new healthy lifestyle. If you find yourself gravitating toward unhealthy snacks, try finding really delicious healthier snacks. If you really need cookies, try eating half and…
  • I've been on maintenance for about a year, and my weight was creeping up, so I am losing the 5 pounds and resetting my maintenance strategy. My biggest suggestion is to keep logging accurately. The "eyeballing" and "between logging" snacks got out of hand for me. That way if you do gain weight, you have a chance at…
  • I am a sixth grade teacher in middle school, and I have two kids (11 & 14). I do most of my workouts in the mornings (5:15) but I also try to squeeze some in after school when I can. It's hard, but I've really tried to make it a priority. I plan all the dinners ahead for the week, shop on the weekends, and make sure to…
  • You look very healthy, but more importantly you sound like you're in a great place mentally. Keep feeling proud of yourself and all you have accomplished. It's clear you're not going to rest on your laurels. Congratulations on a life-changing year!
  • Yay teachers! Good luck with your first year! I always brings own lunch. I plan ahead when I shop for the week, just I have my own children do. I take open face sandwiches, salads with turkey meat, leftovers, and Greek yogurt with go lean cereal. I also make sure to have a few Amy's light and lean meals in the freezer,…
  • There is a lot of wisdom in these replies - just want to add one more way to think about it. People who have WAY more money than they need don't need to think about how much money they spend on a daily basis. But the rest of us need to balance checkbooks or use Quicken or similar money-tracking programs to make sure that…
  • I can totally understand your frustration. I'm wondering if hormones TOM could figure into it. Do you weigh yourself every week? Is there up/down? Don't give up - you can do this! Also, how do you feel? Do you feel any healthier or more energetic? That's important too! Just know that we have all been there, and you will…
  • I totally understand how you feel. Everyone says "take time for yourself" but for moms, we are still expected to take care of a lot of household tasks, social planning, food preparation, and for some of us, work outside of the home. The hardest thing about being a mother is being able to be your own person without feeling…
  • Congratulations! You look great! What an awesome feeling to know you took control of your health! Keep up the good work! We're all rooting for you!
  • Exactly 5'7" Started around 170, now my maintenance range is 130-134. I never realized I was "too tall for reg. and too short for tall!"
  • Yes!!!!!!! I have the same issue on long trips in my odyssey. Not often an issue in other seats, but occasionally! I so thought it was my own weird thing.
  • First of all, congratulations for taking the first step. It is not easy. My diet suggestions are: 1) Drink a lot of water, especially as a way to avoid emotional eating. Water is also great for your skin and your digestive system. 2) Plan ahead for every meal and snack. Planning is crucial to getting "caught out" without…
  • Trader Joe's - Plain Greek fat-free yogurt, Kashi Go-Lean cereal, Lite shredded mozzarella cheese, oven roasted turkey breast, broccoli slaw, packaged salads for lunch (citrus chicken, lemon arugula chicken, low-cal chinese chicken ---without dressing all around 200 cal or less), lentil curl chips ( new favorite in my…
  • Congratulations! Keep up the great work, and never stop believing you can do it!
  • Congratulations! Keep up the great work! Be very proud of yourself for your accomplishments and your attitude!
  • You have gotten a lot of good advice...I agree with the main points of "keep it simple" and say what you're comfortable saying. I'm sending a link to Mr. Rogers (you may be too young to know who he was) website. I think you'll find it helpful as well. http://www.fredrogers.org/FRC/par-death.html
  • You look great and are inspiring! Congratulations!
  • Congratulations! I especially empathize with your feeling (for the first time) self-confident about your ability to do physical activities. This is probably the best thing I have gained from my MFP journey as well. Keep up the great work!!!
  • Thank you so much! It said 6 cookies in the recipe, so I was assuming 1/6 recipe per cookie! Will be trying these ASAP.
  • Looks great! What are calories per cookie?
  • I totally agree with this, and I try to tell my children the same thing. If they are "hungry" within an hour of dinner, I offer them carrots or other veggies. If they don't want them, then I say, "It's okay to be hungry." I don't think many parents or adults give this message. I know I never heard it as a kid.
  • I agree about trying non-cold water. I actually drink hot water, but that's weird to most people. Also, for me the more I drink, the more thirsty I seem to get...so my body reminds me when I slack off. Just make it your goal, and you can do it! Good Luck!
  • I was going to suggest oatmeal! Works for me! :)
  • I am 43, and I had never liked exercise or been in any shape whatsoever until I started on MFP last July. I want to echo the suggestion for some sessions with a personal trainer in order to learn some strength training. If you have any friends who have a good, reliable trainer, it is worth it to have someone show you how…
  • Incredible! Feel proud! :)

  • How great that you have already lost weight! Don't get discouraged. Try searching in the forum for people who have lost over 100 pounds...there are people who lost 200-300 who could barely get out of a chair when they started! Get inspired and keep working slowly and steadily. You can do it!
  • I agree with others - in particular on these points: 1) He has to be ready to change. 2) Try just going for walks together (my husband has lost over 40 pounds in the past 9 months, and on most days he only walks the dog for an hour. 3) Tell him repeatedly how much you love him and his body, and if you ever suggest anything…
  • I lost my entire 40 lbs while drinking black coffee in the morning. I will say that I usually do not allow myself to have beyond my morning 16 ounces UNTIL I've had my 8 glasses of water or pretty close. In other words, I have to "earn" additional coffee by drinking water first. It has the double bonus of keeping me…
  • Just want to echo support and sympathy for your losses. You CAN do it! Like others have said, set small, realistic goals and be proud of yourself for achieving each one. Success will spiral into more success. Eating without cooking is certainly challenging, and I'm not an expert in that area, but I think that there are…
