Any advice on how you did it? I keep giving up.

I have also had this feeling too- it was hard to explain to someone how "just feeling hot" could make you feel sick to your stomach and totally interfere with your life! I have been having soy protein shakes for breakfast and lunch because I read soy protein helps with hot flashes- it has helped with mine for sure.

I am so tired of it- I can't lose weight either. I went on the 17 day diet (Dr.Phil had it on) and was excellent for over a month. I lost 7 lbs. quickly but then I didn't budge. I got so discouraged I ended up going off and now I am trying to get refocussed. Even when I hadn't put on weight according to the dr. when I got…

Hot flashes including the ones at night which wake me up (I used to sleep through anything) Weight gain/fat gut (when I was at the dr. I hadn't actually gone up on the scales but none of my pants would do up) I can't remember the third. Oh wait- memory loss! Actually the hot flashes and mood swings have been helped by soy…

Anytime you start a diet it is always harder at the beginning because your body isn't used to it. That being said, if you have decided you want to use diet shakes as a way to help lose weight, try soy protein shakes. I am not a breakfast eater so I use shakes to get nutrition in before I go to work. I was using Slim fast…

My husband and I went to a seminar that told all the pros and cons about the surgery. He is almost 300 lbs. He decided against it because he was scared of the things you can't do after- the though of never ever having pop really scared him too!! He tried a medication that caused diarrhea if you ate too much fat. It was so…

I'm no on HRT- family history of cancer, heart and stroke issues as well as being diabetic and having high blood pressure and high cholestrol myself. I got a prescription for antidepressant (SSRI) but was reluctant to take one more medication. I realized when my depression and hot flashes were really bad was when I forgot…

I completely understand- I am doing the 17 day diet right now and when I stick to it I'm fine but if I have even one small bite of something carb/sugar laden I can't stop. I actually feel like a madman! I think it's an addiction and the only way to stay good is stay away from that stuff - I can't just have one!
-
I have the same problem. If I worked 7 days aweek I might be thinner- and have more money LOL!

How do we find out how to start a group? I am not sure where I am- possibly peri because I have spells where I'm constantly having hot flashes, night sweats, sadness, mood swings etc. - but then I will have a few months with nothing. I had a hysterectomy a few years ago but ovaries were left. I also have metabolic syndrome…

I am Canadian but visited my cousin-in-law in Torrance California this summer. LOVED IT!!! If I could get a job, visa etc etc I would probably be joining you in a heartbeat!!

I like the flexibility- I can do Atkins or WW or whatever I want- I decide- but also the accountability. If I know I am plugging in my stuff, I am much more accountable. Am I perfect? No- but it took me a long time to get overweight so it won't happen over night. But I am better then I was this time a month ago so that's…

Woodstock - I will send you a friend request.

There is another discussion going on about this LOL- I personally am not going to eat them all back- what is the point of exercising if I eat that much more?? But on the days that I work out alot I might allow myself a treat by having a little more. I am strictly going to just look at my calories eaten.

There is a recipe section- I think it's towards the bottom. Would that be a better place? I would love to see the recipe but if I was looking for ideas that is where I would go.:flowerforyou:

Are you making sure you have protein which helps stave off hunger pangs? If you have celery add a little p.b. or if you have fruit add a little cheese. I find if I have a combo that includes protein I am much better. If I'm not watching my carbs I also eat air popped popcorn.

Good point about if you like us at our worse, you should LOVE us at our best!! I shop for bathing suits that way- when I'm feeling my fattest- same reasoning!! If you do come then, remember we aren't that crappy all the time LOL! We are a huge country though- when we had family come to visit they never made it out of…

What exactly does it do? I thought it would just show what your heart rate was.

Don't tell anyone how many calories you are eating LOL! It depends on how tall you are and how active you are but as we age our bodies require less calories. That's why we can eat the same amount we did when we were younger but gain weight. The metabolism slows as we age. If you are losing weight stick with it!!!

Push ups are great- they work the back, shoulders, chest, arms and abs. Check out: http://www.hundredpushups.com/- it is a six week program where you build up to 100 pushups. They also have programs for squats etc. I am going to try the two hundred squats program.

Do you ever use Metamucil? I try to take the amount recommended for lowering cholesterol. You are supposed to have three teaspoons three times a day. It makes the drink very thick. No worry about getting dependent because you can take it the rest of your life to help lower the cholestrol. I have also tried the clearly…

An interesting article- I have been a fitness instructor for 7 years (I'm fit, but like the article points out, that doesn't mean I'm thin!) and have many people ask why we are all working out like crazy but not losing weight. I know it's my diet that is my downfall and this article seems to support it. BUT personally if I…

A little town in Ontario Canada- Woodstock, but not the famous concert one!

Love the time difference between England and Canada (I assume since you mentioned bank holiday that you are British- I watch Corrie St LOL!)- I thought at first you were really anticipating a bad time since it is still morning here! Have you tried veggies and dip (celery with a bit of peanut butter) or an apple and a slice…

Actually muscle doesn't weigh more than fat. But muscle takes up less space than fat. It's like bricks and feathers- a pound of bricks and a pound of feathers weigh the same but which takes up more space? The feathers of course. So you can be losing fat and gaining muscle- the scales don't change but the muscle takes up…

PUSH THROUGH!!! I remember going to exercise class, hating it and wanting to quit. But I kept going, stayed in the back row, ignored everyone else and did what I could. It takes about 6 weeks before you really feel comfortable but it is worth it- if you don't push through, you won't ever progress. I am also trying early…

It depends on how much you have to lose but I think it also depends on if people are seeing you all the time as you diet. I once had two friends who both lost 40 lbs in the same time frame. I was seeing the one every day and did notice she looked like she was losing a little bit of weight but I thought it was only a few…

I am with you on that one! I was diagnosed about 5 years ago and managed with no medication for a few years. As I have gotten older and find weight control harder I have been put on medication and keep getting more added or changed. The frustrating thing is that some of the medication causes weight gain so I put on weight…

I had a 12 1/2 lb. baby years ago- I can't do 1000 jumping jacks without a diaper LOL! I am starting "200 squats" program though- google it. You might not burn mega calories but your legs and butts will look great!

I started on Monday and am down a little but it is because it was my one month vacation pig-out weight. I find that if I had a while of improper eating and put on some weight, it comes off rapidly- but then I get stuck with that same 40+lbs that I have been trying to get rid of for years. I also believe in the set-point…
