Ah...apparently I had my "irony" sensor muted that day. I've turned it up and this won't happen agan.:blushing:

I'm not sure where this came from. I've been a certified personal trainer for 14 years (NASM/ACE) and this is a bogus comment. Unless you can point to something credible to back up this statement, I stand by mine.

I'm 60 and have been weight-training all of my adult life. It's true, from my experience as a certified personal trainer, that very few people get out of their 30's without issues affecting their shoulders, knees, hips or lower back primaily to the majority of time being spent in a seated, foward flexed position. It's…

This usually happens to me after a day of HIIT or a long aerobic workout. If you don't want to go too far over your caloric intake, have some broth based soup, or a huge plate of plain vegetables or salad without dressing etc. Otherwise, think of it as your body needing more nourishment and have some extra protein, some…

This is so true. Your body starts "reving" up processes to fight infection, injury etc. resulting in a higher heart rate. That's why knowing your resting heart rate can be useful. If you find your resting heart rate has increased it could be a sign of impending illness, or over-training etc.

Jujubes!

Healthy soup or a gigantic salad with some black beans....and stop the negative self-talk. P.S. It's been my experience as a CPT over the last 13 years, that EVERYONE can fit some exercise into their day, even if it's 10 minutes at a time.

Awww Vacation!!!!

I tell my clients to have a pair of jeans, or an article of clothing that they want to fit into, and to try it on weekly or even monthly. That, and measurements can be a better sign of success than the number on the scale. Good luck to you!

It really helps as you get older, less sag and a better metabolism. I'm 5'1" and 60 yrs old and love my muscles!

I just noticed my Camelbak bottle on my Spinning bike had mold in the mouth-piece. How disgusting is that!!!????:noway:
-
Is this a peer reviewed study? How large was the group they were studying? Most likely none of this applies and the article was "cherry picking". Exercise can boost metabolism, at least for a period right after a high intensity workout. This is known as EPOC, or "exercise post oxygen consumption".

Totally agree with this statement!

Yeah, but do you lift a baby with one arm and then press them up over your head??

I taught Spin/cycle classes, 6-8 weekly, for 14 years and obviously, loved, loved teaching that format! Your knees shouldn't hurt so ask your instructor to check your bike set-up. Also, after a few classes the seat should start feeling more comfortable...a pair of padded bike shorts will make the experience even better.…

One in-law said "We'll, you HAVE to lift weights because it's your job". I just told her I was doing weight-training decades before getting certified as a trainer.

Ask your trainer what his certification is (I.e. ACE, NASM etc.), or if he IS certified because this is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard...and I've been a Personal Trainer for 12 years!

I 'm 60 years old and have been working out most of my life. I 've been a NASM certified personal trainer since 2001 and ACE certified since 1997 and taught 6 - 8 Spinning classes weekly for 14 years. So no....I think everything is age appropriate! However, at any age some things will be less appropriate than others due to…

Steel cut oats with either cinnamon, or a little butter and salt and pepper. Once in awhile, hulled barley cause it pops in your mouth!!

I've never stopped drinking coffee....or tea. I have never like soda, EVER! Rarely drink alcohol but coffee I could wax poetically about forever. But, I don't drink coffee drinks because that would be a waste of calories and money.

Agree! No matter how I prepare them, they just taste like dirt.

I went out and did 45 minutes of hill repeats during rain and some hail. By the time I got home the sun came out. Luck of the Irish!

The gold standard used to be hydrostatic weighing (under water), but there is a margin of error with that if you are fearful of water, or are unable to hold, expel air well. Plus, finding a faclity that does it is difficult unless you're near a University or a Hospital that provides that service. There is also the "body…

Studies have shown that eating easily digested carbs and quality protein within thirty minutes is best because that's when the body is most open to glycogen replacement. This helps prevents the loss of LBM (lean body mass).

Agree Totally!

Wine and Nutella. I have really cut alcohol pretty much out of my life due to some issues (mine and family ones) and nutella because I will eat the whole jar. Everything else is fair game because I don't demonize food groups! BUT....processed stuff isn't a food group, so I try to keep that to a bare minimum.

No...you are so totally wrong. Everyone has to start somewhere and as a certified personal trainer and GX instructor for 16 years I always hoped that the New Years resolution would stick. True, for many it doesn't. But at least they made the attempt. Fighting for that treadmill, or in my case having regulars complain when…

I'm 5'1" and currently at 122 lbs an 22% BF. Oh, and I'm also 60 years old. I've been weight training for twenty some years and am actually a practicing certified persona trainer since 2001. I have found that as I get older my recovery times are longer and my warm-up times have to be longer too. The good news is because…

I am a NASM certified personal trainer and the points he made are excellent. I would add: Cardiovascular training Flexibility training Balance training This would provide a well-rounded program.
