  • I agree with this as well. I lift 3x a week. But you will have to play with the time period that you lift so that it doesn't trash your runs. I have had bad timing on runs and struggled the whole way! not fun on your long runs.
  • Here is my .02 I don't think it is a good idea. Your body will basically adjust to it and your gains will start halting. My style is to make sure I get 3 core runs in a week. (at least a day inbetween each one) 1 long run and 2 of any of the following... Tempo, interval, speed, hills. On the days other then those 3, (or if…
  • I'm going to chime in for a bit... One thing to remember is that MFP calculates for you to loose weight on its own without any excercise. If you set that too agressive and you excercise as well you will put yourself into a caloric deficit so hard that your body tries to make up for it, in tern making it even harder to…
  • New goal for me... loose 10 more pounds and add some size to my arms :)
  • Feel free to add me. I always have something to say :)
  • I'm struggling with that myself. Feel free to add me.
  • Depends on what your trying to do... The treadmill has a little extra cusion. Other then that I would say road it because the bordom factor.
  • Hello everyone! Fairly new to MFP. I'm not new to running at all, but I have not done it in 12 years or so. But here I am. I just quit smoking and am determined to run more. Since I started to get back into shape I started doing obstacle races and did one reverse sprint triathlon. Anyone who wants to feel free to add me as…
  • Start running and your body will tell you how to breath. This is coming from a recovering smoker. lol So what you want to do is start walking 30 minutes or so a day, and then start adding lets say a 10 second run in there a couple of times in the middle. If that is comfortable then add more intervals. The goal is to make…
  • Feel free to add me :)
  • Thats a cool link scott. Thanks.
  • Thank you for the correction.
  • So a tempo run is a steady run for a certain distance for a certain time. Like a 10k tempo run example would be something like this. Lets say your race time for a 10k is 1 hour or 60 min. 1. Go out and jog 5-10 minutes to warm up. (nice and slow pace) 2. Then pick the distance you would want to run. a. Lets say your going…
  • So using the same example... Instead of 1 set 11 at 15lbs 1 set 8 at 15 lbs 1 set 5 at 15 lbs Use 1 set 6 at 20lbs 1 set 15 at 10lbs So 2 sets instead of 3, or is that one "superset" and do it three times, and what kind of rest between? It sounds knarly, I'm gonna try it for my next monday and tuesday routines :)
  • Um my own ignorance lol. Thats just what I know. You probably have a better way to look at it. All of my experience comes from being a MuayThai fighter as well as a Marine. (Neither are known for thier ability to bulk up) But I have occasionally had to bulk up and thats what I used. Part of the other reason that I always…
  • I dropped around 15 pounds before I joined myfitnesspal. I would guess that 10 were from drinking Monster lol. The other 5 were beer. My advice, best ways I have had to build bulk back (when I was younger I was light and hard to gain or loose weight) is to stuff as much protein down my neck as I could and lift the heaviest…
  • I second this! I love the program. And I think the gym is the best way to go for a lot of reasons. You don't ever have to upgrade your weights You don't have to worry about a treadmill breaking You will get a lot of tips and tricks from guys there that have been doing it for years You might even get some motivation from…
  • I go by the drink as much as possible rule. (within reason) No really. I drink about 1.5 gallons to 2 gallons a day. (I am down to 219 now) Thats about 1.5 is about 230. My theory... I'm not a doctor but... The way I look at it is that is one of the main ways that you body flushes bad things out. More water in = more water…
  • I have a friend that lost 30 pounds just by quiting soda. Its amazing how many calories you can drink in a day without realizing it. I still think you should get a checkup as well. Congrats on stopping the soda.
  • Have you done it yet? It might be too much, like the bicep is a hard workout it looks like. But I'm not a pro. Just learning the lifting side of things. I know that if I take it easy I could do it, but if I was pushing hard weights, I think I wouldn't be able to lift my arm around the 9th set. I struggle with my bicep work…
  • Update for everyone. I met my weekly mileage last week for the first time. I ran 8.5 miles last week in 3 runs. I can still feel way out of shape, but the lungs are starting to free up a bit more.
  • I'm down. Add me :)
  • I'm a firm believer in keep the workouts as fun as possible. I only hard set the minimum for what ever the goal I'm working on is. Other then that I try to keep them open to fun things. Feel free to add me.
  • Not to be a total ****. Yes men are shallow. Most anyway. Keep looking though, you will find one that isnt as concerned with weight or fat. Everybody is shallow though. I want my partner to make good money... I want to be able to brag about my boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife... (Around friends) OOOOh look at the way so…
  • Watching the olimpics these last couple of weeks has given me some motivation to push harder. 37 years old and got 4th place in the mens marathon! Thats crazy. I gotta push harder lol
  • There are a couple things I can add. #1 CONGRATS #2 Watch what you eat at night... Meaning something that has helped me is limiting the carbs at night. I try not to eat carbs after my lunch. #3 A tip for workouts... Try switching it up a little. If your doing the same workout every day, throw in a completely different…
  • Just to chime in, My background... (it doesn't get any more atheltic than me when I was a kid) Super athletic, every sport including cross country, track, and professional fighting. Went into the Marine Corps. Started smoking. Even smoking had no problem running a 5k in 18 minutes. Got out of the Marine Corps and stopped…
