  • I think it's a problem on those really small twin-prop planes. I've seen people have to be offloaded from those flights because they were over the legal take-off weight. Sometimes, I'm sorry to say, the situation dictates it. I've had to provide my weight details before when getting on small charter flights. As I…
  • Fresh fruit salad and low fat vanilla yogurt?
  • I'm currently a size 0 and look awesome (toned, abs, etc.) and my mother STILL calls me fat. She's overweight and pushing obese. Go figure. It's all relative. I've seen people look fantastic at a size 10-12 and look chubby at a size 2. Depends on body composition.
  • I think the issue is that while some kids grow out of the puppy fat phase, a lot don't. And the percentage of ones who don't is growing (pun intended). How long do you wait for your kid to "grow out of it" all the while they're continuing to pile on weight, before you realise that they're now an adult and have a genuine…
  • ^^^ THIS! I'm amazed at the number of people who seem to think that they're a healthy weight, when clinically they'd be classified as at the higher range of overweight or even obese. And while I can understand that some athletes would technically be called "overweight" based on BMI, these people aren't athletes. They're…
  • A major con (in my opinion anyway), is that people suddenly find the need to comment on every single thing you eat or drink, and how much exercise you do. My experience has unfortunately bordered on full on harassment and bullying from some people. To the point where I have had to lodge formal complaints with the HR…
  • I drink 4-5 cups of black coffee every day. No creamer, no milk, no sugar. Just black coffee. Is good. Keeps me functioning like a (relatively) sane person. No intention of ever giving it up. I suffer migraines, and even my neurosurgeon (it's that serious) tells me to drink it because the caffeine helps with migraines.
  • Today: * Ciabatta roll with 1/4 avocado, a sprinkle of cajun seasoning and 50g smoked salmon * 2 plums * 600 mL bottle of coke zero.
  • Today? Macklemore - Can't Hold Us Honestly, it changes depending on what day of the week it is and what mood I'm in.
  • 1. Don't try and run every day. Start out with 1-2 days a week and build up to every other day, and then every day (if you want). Same goes for speed - build up to it. 2. Running can be very monotonous at times. Put together a good playlist on your ipod (or whatever you use) to keep you motivated.
  • Uh, yes. I can smash out an hour on the treadmill at 9-10 mph without a problem on an empty stomach. Like I said, it's personal preference and everyone's different.
  • It's personal preference. I never eat before exercise. Makes me feel sick when I'm working out. Afterwards? Yes, absolutely!
  • No secret. I can run at 9-10 mph in the hills with ease for at least an hour. That's over 1000 cal. as measured by my HRM. And I'm only 5'2" and weigh 94 lbs...
  • Ugh. The heavy lifting room at my gym is used by both males and females. And some of the big guys use well over 100kg of plates on the bar. I'm sorry, I don't know about you, but I don't want to injure myself trying to unrack that much weight because some douche was too lazy to re-rack it when he was done. Great for you if…
  • Ice skating. I have all the coordination in the world...Until you get me on ice skates. Then I flail around like an idiot.
  • Yes, I do. And I've not had issues with others not doing it either - yet. But then there's also signs all over the wall in the heavy lifting room at my gym about re-racking your weights. And there's always staff around ready to rip you a new one for not playing by the rules.
  • My job has really random hours, and I can be at work at 4pm and get told I have a business meeting at 6pm that I have to attend. This happens on a very regular basis. So if I don't get to the gym in the morning before work, there's a really big chance I won't have time to get there after work because my schedule can change…
  • Alarms at 5am and 5.30am, at the gym by 6am, workout till 7.30am, go home to have breakfast/shower/get ready, out the door by 8.15am, at work at 8.30am.
  • Cockroaches. Spiders. Scorpions. Dog. Guinea pig. Fermented mares milk with blood. And all sorts of random animal parts (eyes, tongues etc.). You can probably guess that I travel overseas a lot and get stuck with no other option but to eat things that I would never ordinarily eat in a million years otherwise.
  • Asics GEL Nimbus 14. Awesome running shoes. This is my 5th pair of Asics Gels.
  • My diary is closed, but my regular menu when I was doing the 1200 calorie setup was something like: Breakfast (180 cal): small granny smith apple, 1/4 cup wholemeal oats, 100 ml low fat vanilla yogurt, green tea Lunch (510 cal): wholegrain breadroll, 30 g avocado, 100 g chicken, 2 nectarines, 600 ml bottle coke zero Dinner…
  • They're marketed under the brand SlimPasta in Australia. They're just very low cal noodles, not zero cal. One serving is about 10 calories, but I find I need 2 servings to feel like my hunger is even remotely satiated, which still amounts to stuff all really. Can be found in the healthfood aisle of Woolworths, Coles or IGA…
  • Saying nobody ever got fat eating fruit is silly, but unless you're stuffing your face with a dozen bananas and several pounds of grapes a day, I wouldn't worry about it. Some fruits are more calorific than others. But fundamentally, there's nothing wrong with eating fruit. I have an apple or peach with breakfast. Then I…
  • I find the TechnoGym treadmills at my gym to actually be pretty accurate compared to a HRM. The resistance machines (ellipticals, cross trainers, stationary bikes) are a little more problematic, because the resistance bands are in varying stages of decay/failure from overuse, and it's not giving you the resistance it's…
  • *waves* I live in Perth, Australia. I was a competitive middle distance runner in high school and university, but eventually life got in the way and I stopped running. After a few reassessments of some life choices I'd made, I decided to get back into running. Mainly just for fitness reasons. Then I thought "hey, I should…
  • Miles? *wanders off to find km to miles converter* Google says it equates to about 50 miles a week. Took a while to work up to that, but I'm fairly comfortable at this sort of level now.
  • I listen to fairly energetic dance music on my ipod. And I have a pretty scenic running route along the local river if the weather's good, if not, the cardio floor of my gym looks out over a big forested area. So I just zone out.
  • Yup. I live in Australia, and I'm doing the Perth City to Surf marathon in August. I'm going to lodge an application to do the NYC marathon in November, but that's a matter of luck since it seems to basically be a lottery for entry. And flying from Australia to the US just to run a race is an expensive prospect, so not…
  • Awesome. I'm competing in triathlons and running events and posting pretty competitive times. Hoping to run a marathon at the end of the year and aiming to post a sub 3:30 time.
