Expatriated Kentucky boy here, and UK faculty brat as well. I left KY years ago, but I still bleed blue. I agree that UK's football team stinks... basketball on the other hand... Back on topic: if you can take a walk outside in fresh air, you may find that helps. I know I feel better if I get outside during the day, even…

Brilliant idea! Completely brilliant!

One of my cats got on the bathroom scale the other day, and it said she weighed 49 lbs. This same scale reads 5 lbs lighter if I move it into the kitchen. I don't trust its over-all accuracy, but I do trust it to at least track trends.

I'm the chief cook and bottle-washer in the Doomspark household. And while I'm no paragon of weight-loss, I've shed 20+ lbs, So it can be done.

Sent ya a friend request.

Am tempted to say "throw out the scale" More seriously, I made a pact with myself to only step on the scale once a week (if that often). Instead, I concentrate on NSVs - like tightening my belt one notch, or being able to walk faster, or being able to climb stairs without huffing like a steam engine.

If I put my scale in the kitchen, it reads 5 lbs lighter than when it's in the bathroom. So it stays in the bathroom because that's where it was when I started tracking. Also, one of my cats got on the scale a few days ago and it weighed her at 49 lbs... which is complete nonsense.

1. Be patient. There is no magic pill to lose all the weight overnight or in 2 weeks. 2. don't beat yourself up if you have a bad day and eat bad or blow off your exercise. Get back on the horse and do better the next day. 3. Drink lots of water. 4. Find exercises that you don't hate. If you hate it, you're not nearly as…

Love my cats! Can anyone name the breed of the two in my picture?

I'm doing some walking outside already - one of my coworkers and I spend the last 15 minutes of our lunch hour walking around the courtyard at work (we walk up and down the halls in bad weather). This walking is done in my work shoes (over-the-ankle steel-toe boots) which aren't the best thing for 5K. On the treadmill, I…

Just for today: I will recognize when I am eating emotions and make the conscious choice whether or not to do so.

A couple of my coworkers were doing "wraps" every two weeks for 3 or 4 months. They finally figured out that they have been losing the same 3 to 5 lbs over and over again - and paying a fairly hefty price to do so.

Welcome to MFP! You *CAN* do this!

Hi Peter, I'm a 51 year old American in Florida. I started working on weight loss when my weight hit 212 lbs (that's about 100kg if my math is correct). I'm working on losing it. Best of luck!

Mine is a character from a book.

1. Start logging everything you eat. Once it's there in front of your face, it will make you more accountable. 2. Drink water. 3. Figure out if you are a comfort eater or a boredom eater. Identifying your triggers will help tremendously. Feel free to friend me. I'll cheer you on.

I've done some backsliding this week, eating lunch out instead of bringing it from home. Don't beat yourself up about it. Just acknowledge the past and then work on getting back on track. And if you want encouragement, send me a friend request here and I'll help cheer you on.

I quit cold-turkey. Before that, I was drinking 1 or 2 cans a day.
-
Part of the secret is to realize that this is a lifestyle change and not a "diet". Diets - as promoted by media - promise quick results. This, of course, is nonsense. Weight doesn't get packed on overnight, so it's not going to come off overnight - and it's not going to stay off if you go back to bad habits. And another…

Welcome back! I've done the same thing; this is my 3rd time back on MFP. We *CAN* do this.
-
Great job! Thanks for posting this; it's extra motivation.

I quit drinking diet soda entirely when I decided to get serious about shedding weight. I don't have any numbers to give you for weight loss, but: 1. My nearly constant heartburn cleared up. 2. I've shed 22 lbs, although I've also cleaned up my diet considerably. 3. My blood pressure has dropped to a more normal range. 4.…

I'm 51. Feel free to friend me here.

How long is your lunch break? If it's an hour, sacrifice the last 15-20 minutes and walk. You won't burn 100's of calories, but you'll be moving.

I had one for years and loved it. It finally died last week after many years of service. I'm getting a new one come payday.

I'm back after a few months away. Just started logging food and exercise again. c'mon folks. Let's get back on the horse.
